Man killed in Palmdale shooting [updated]

PALMDALE – A known gang member was shot and killed in Palmdale Sunday evening after he became involved in an argument with suspects in another vehicle, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 5:50 p.m. Sunday, June 4, on the 5500 block of Laurel Avenue, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Deputies learned that individuals from two separate vehicles began arguing while stopped on the roadway,” the news release states.

“The victim exited his vehicle and one of the individuals from the suspect’s vehicle began shooting at him. The victim re-entered his vehicle and he was driven westbound to Julian Lane,” the news release states.

The man suffered at least one gunshot wound to his torso and was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.

His name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification, but he was a Hispanic male in his 20s from Palmdale, coroner’s officials said.

“The suspects fled in a light colored sedan westbound from Julian Lane and out of view. The victim is a known gang member. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time,” the sheriff’s news release states.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Armando Reyes of Palmdale, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

  1. I’m a rideshare driver. I had the blessed honor, most divine honor, to have as my passenger early this morning, 7/4th, Armando’s friend to take him home. Armando’s friends had gathered to celebrate (sort of) Armando’s passing. His friend told me his story and had nothing but good things to say about Armando. He also told me that Armando was a good man, always striving to better himself and promoting others to do so, as well. I told him that Armando left his spirit behind to be in the hearts of all those who knew him, and my passenger knew that, as well. Sometimes we have no control over nor choice of the life and lifestyle we’re born in or given — some born w/a silver spoon, some not. This young man, my passenger, knew this, but also said that with Armando’s influenced, it’s going to make him live his dreams. I don’t know Armando, but I can tell you this: Most people born in lifestyles they didn’t choose but had to deal with don’t leave this legacy behind — “Hell on earth, trying to make it to heaven.” Armando, you have, in fact, made it to heaven, and have spread your spirit to all your loved ones to strive to be heaven-bound. I was truly touched, moved, and shed tears w/this young man. I will never forget you, dear passenger. Thank you so much for everything you said. Love you and your beautiful sister! I will always keep you both in my prayers, Armando’s children, his family and his loved ones, and his gang!

    Palmdale is crawling with gang member, the high schools have them, can’t find a brick wall in palmdale without gang tagging or fresh paint over the gang tagging. They are often part of large drug/burglary and human trafficking rings and almost always the offspring of illegals.

    • And yet Lancaster has a higher crime rate, their financial rating is shot, their infrastructure is collapsing, they can’t get a business to locate there without giving them a kickback on the sales tax revenue they generate, and their mayor is the laughing stock of southern California.

        • I have to take anti-depressants after driving through Palmdale-adjacent: half-empty old shopping centers, thrift stores, Walmarts and little else and that includes the blvd.

          • The murder rate in Palmdale, while of course higher than anyone would want, is pretty ordinary for a city of this size, below average even. Similarly for other crimes. The failures of Lancaster that William points out though are out of the ordinary. Your bowing and scraping to the crony politics of Lancaster is no surprise, since your family is part of it, but that also makes it meaningless.

That misstates whatever you thought I wrote and indicates that the voices in your head are louder than you ability to read accurately.

            Don’t feel bad, though. I run into that issue with many right wingers such as yourself. They misinterpret what they read/hear and then run with it. It’s breathtaking how consistently you guys do that and after years of observing it, I concluded that you aren’t able to learn anything. You just repeat the same old things over and over.

        The article says “known gang member.” That’s unfortunately a very nebulous description. We have no way of knowing whether, as you say, he “chose not to leave that life.” I’ve met a number of people who moved to the AV with ‘leaving that life behind’ specifically in their minds. Does law enforcement no longer refer to them as “known gang member”? Would the media?

        I think it is probably reasonable to just acknowledge that loss of a life, be it turned around, potentially turned around, or just a life that we can hope would turn around, is regrettable.

        For me, my condolences to those who suffered this loss.

        • He did leave that life behind… he had four beautiful children and a wife… he was an amazing man no matter what this article says or what anyone says i’m not trying to call you out or anything, but really in hope that people read this and know he was a family man and a human being trying to get into a better life. It doesn’t say really what happened but just like every person they judged by his past good or not. the media doesn’t care. he wasn’t anyone special just a man with his family and loved ones so to all the people talking bad about him, me his niece and his family know that no matter what you say to make yourself feel better doesn’t make you any better by judging. please if you don’t know him mind your business. thank you! there is a saying (if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it at all). Almost a year ago, I saw a woman post disgusting comments on this same facebook page about a young man that passed away then a few weeks later I saw her again but it was HER TWO sons who got in to an accident on the 405 & passed away! The comments are unbelievable on this post and Karma really is a Bit** ! You people need to show some compassion for this family! RIP to this young man and to the family, im truly sorry for your loss and I’m praying for you.

    • Amen, regardless of what he was, what he wasn’t, remember a man lost his life, ( foolishly, true, but is not murder foolish to begin wit ), a mom lost her son, a man was taken from his children, taken from his brothers and sisters.
