Palmdale lifeguards achieve “world class” lifeguarding score

PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale’s lifeguard team received a score of 84 from the National Aquatic Safety Company (NASCO) after the organization conducted a lifeguard inspection in June at DryTown Water Park. It is the 16th consecutive year they achieved a “world class” score.

“A score of 70 is considered to be ‘World Class,’” said Palmdale’s Director of Recreation and Culture Keri Smith.

The Palmdale lifeguards achieved their rating after being evaluated for:

  • Scanning time (how quickly and accurately the water surface is viewed);
  • Appearance (indicates that the lifeguard is prepared with proper equipment); and
  • Posture (rescue ready stance).

“Our lifeguards take pride in what they do,” Smith added. “They train and study very hard to provide our families the best and safest experience at DryTown and our pools.”

NASCO performs inspections at hundreds of water park facilities throughout the United States each year, and is recognized as a leader and innovator in the safety procedures for aquatics and amusement park facilities.

  1. Leave it to the men on here with their ridiculous comments and always getting their ‘pool noodles’ tangled up amongst themselves….next time just sit in your banana float and admire the accomplishments of young people who are actually trained to save lives…geez…Great Job Lifeguards!

  2. My daughter absolutely loves her swim lessons at the Palmdale Oasis Park. The lifeguards there are great!

  4. Congrats we have an awesome life guard team I’m glad hopefully Lancaster has good life guards as well.. looks like I can have a hot life guard babe rescue me in the Lazy River

    • Lancaster has lifeguards are at the county pools like Lane Park and those are Los Angeles County Parks lifeguards.

      I was a lifeguard at Lane Park many years ago as a teen and understand the work it takes so congratulations to the Palmdale lifeguards. That’s an impressive achievement.

      • When I was a kid I swam at Lane park. There were some really arrogant clowns lifegaurding back then. Oh, hey, bet that was you.

      • Actually Lancaster has a couple of their own pools, one of them being a big indoor pool.
        NO PRIDE IN OWNERSHIP there. I have met the aquatics “director”, …not impressive whatsoever….
        so the lifeguard staff (with thw occasiional unintended exeption) accordingly
