… here in the sanctuary city of the Antelope Valley, its different laws for different people; different leniencies for different cohorts. If you or I roll through the Soviet style checkpoint, with a blown taillight? You are busted, pal. “May I see your driver’s license, registration and proof of financial responsibility,” and you’d better be snappy about it. You get a fix-it ticket, and a red tape nuisance. You’ll have to take time off work standing in line, having it signed off. When gang-banger Illegal immigrant Hidalgo Hemmenez rolls through the Soviet style checkpoint, no documentation, lapsed green card, having overstayed his welcome? Time to roll out the red carpet! He gets a free ride. Period. That’s that –

So, do you take some kind of drugs to keep you in this fantasy world you seem to inhabit, or are you just naturally delusional?
Laughing says
Perhaps IIHH pays attention to his vehicle and properly maintains it for safety. As well to avoid worse legal problems he took advantage of the CA legal methods to obtain a drivers license and insurance and follows most of the rules of the road (we all speed, except for the grands over there).
Which is acting as the better ‘citizen’? Just a thought experiment.
Tim Scott says
I would score that IIHH first, guy with busted tail light second, and Jonathan the paranoid fantasy resident dead last. I put myself somewhere just ahead of busted tail light guy since my car is in good repair and I have all the paperwork, but I’m behind IIHH because I’ll be extremely disrespectful while producing that paperwork and he probably won’t.
Good experiment there Laughing.

These check points don’t do anything but keep everyone employed at the court house.
Not enforcing immigration law at these check points is bs
Tim Scott says
Enforcing immigration law is not the responsibility of the county sheriff. In fact under federal law the enforcement of immigration law specifically CANNOT be delegated to state or local authorities.

Making a grab for the traffic ticket revenue, it’s all about the money, boy. Courthouses are expensive… really-really expensive. They need the money. They’ve just got to get that money, any which way they can.

I’d like to hear your facts on this situation. Saying somebody is wrong then calling them a liberal, does not mean you’re right. I think it would be nice to hear your facts.

Cute. The schemers are at it again, better lock your wallet up. Doesn’t even mention what ‘drug’ the driver was supposedly impaired by. Did they find a roach in the ashtray from a spliff smoked 2 weeks ago? Wait till they roll out the drug breathalyzer gimmick. Then we’ll be seeing granny catching a DUI for some weed she smoked at a concert 5 days earlier. Always about the $$$$$$$.
Laughing says
The drug could have been medically prescribed, many of them have warning not to drive due to drowsiness, or other impairments. But of course you jump to the soft and until recently illegal stuff that you most likely partake in. Not everything is so sinister ya know.

Damn illegal gang members ruining our DUI check points! I bet you damn liberals are going to refer to the 4th amendment about these searches (The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized).! You need to realize the only amendment that counts, is the second! And the freedom of religion, as long as it’s Christian!
Waste of Resources says
One DUI-drug impaired suspect arrested. Wow, sounds like it was worth it.
Someone with common sense says
It is worth it if they were about to kill “a certain number of (a mother, a father, and or a child) people” because of DUI.
Tim Scott says
No, because if they weren’t wasting the resources on a ‘papers please’ soviet style checkpoint they would have caught more than one DUI driver. The feds provide grants to reduce DUI and the locals use these checkpoints to inefficiently convert the grant money into general fund money that they can use for whatever they want to use it for, wasting a bunch of it in the process. Eventually the feds will say “since most cities just waste the grant money we’re stopping the program” and cities where they have actually used the funding to make a difference will lose out.
George Keller says
Once again ignorance….the State funds these checkpoints and will not allow the funds to be used for anything but the checkpoint.
They also provide a separate fund for saturation patrols to find impaired drivers.
Another part of the grant funds can only be spent on DUI enforcement equipment.
The Sheriff’s Department cannot just “convert the grant money” into some general fund.
All of this is available for your education on the State of California grants website.
A sharing of information says
The funds for the check points come directly from the State. There is no choice or ability to move the funds to a general funds so they can be wasted.
There are different categories the funds are split into.
DUI Check Points
DUI enforcement saturation patrols
DUI enforcement equipment
You cannot change the funds around. What is set for check points has to be used for check points, funds for equipment same and so on.
The Department only follows along on the requirements.
Tim Scott says
The process for moving the funds is the checkpoint. The grant has to be used for DUI prevention. Local jurisdictions have managed to get DUI checkpoints included as DUI prevention, even though they seldom if ever catch a DUI. What the checkpoint actually does is generate a bunch of fines that go into the general fund from paperwork infractions that have nothing to do with DUI. So, specified grant money that has to be used for DUI prevention is converted into general fund money.
A sharing of information says
Sorry, you are wrong….having applied and receive the grant funds, I can tell you the State specifically tells you there has to be a certain number of CHECK POINTS held within a certain time period. They never just throw money out to you and let you decide how to use it. The only decision you have is when to do the check point and even that has to be within certain timelines.
The same applies to the DUI saturation patrol enforcement funds. The only flexibility comes in when either due to inclement weather you get permission from OTS to conduct a saturation patrol operation instead of a Check Point, or when they allow you to purchase equipment. OTS however still has to approve the equipment.
In their manual they state their requirements are based on Federal regulations, and can become even more restrictive.
Do some research. Go to the Sheriff’s station and read up on the grant application for your area. Look at the OTS website. Become informed.

how are all these people driving with suspended/revoked licenses? wow…wondering if they are also uninsured.
Bounder1 says
What do you mean wondering? If they don’t have a license they can’t get insurance. That’s why I like to see these checkpoints. Getting the unlicensed uninsured idiots off of the road.

what’s up with all the aggression, damn…..must be all the chemtrails…lol
