PALMDALE – A 19-year-old Palmdale man died Saturday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected from the bike and struck a tree, authorities said.
Tyler Mykel Williams was pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal collision, which happened around 10:52 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, on Sierra Highway near Avenue O-8 in Palmdale, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
“A motorcycle was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway and, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of his motorcycle and drifted into the northbound lanes of travel and struck the east curb and onto the bike path area,” according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“The motorcyclist was ejected and struck a tree. As a result of the collision, the motorcycle then caught on fire approximately 300 feet away on the bike path,” the news release states.
Williams was treated by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics before he was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Sierra Highway was closed, between Rancho Vista Boulevard and Avenue Q, until about 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, while the incident was being investigated.
Anyone with information regarding this traffic collision is encouraged to call Palmdale Station’s Traffic Department at 661-272-2400.
The investigation is ongoing.
Editor’s note: The sheriff’s news release states the crash happened on Sierra Highway near Avenue Q-8, however, the coroner’s office and photographers at the scene said the crash actually happened near Avenue O-8.

Look at that rear tyre…..there is LESS than NO tread there…it looks like it was highly abused and I might be stretching here , but upon zooming in , I see the evidence of a lateral (sidewall) failure (blowout) . God bless u young man and all who are touched by this sad tragedy . Motorbikes seem more and more like a guaranteed ticket to the other side . I used to love riding ..ride safe -all riders ….and keep your scooter in safe conditions .

These kids, and a handful of lots of throttle, are a bad mix. Those kind of bikes are capable of very high speeds in a short amount of time. Any number of things can go bad fast at high speeds. Large animals, a bad rear tire that blows a 19 year old can’t afford to replace, a wobble are only a few things. I wish they could be influenced, or persuaded to reconsider. I’m gettin pretty sick of burying these kids.
My heart and condolences to the family…

Last night at Avenue S and Sierra Hwy I saw a kid on a motorcycle literally standing up (As straight as a board) with his hands to his side on his seat. I panicked and was just about to call 911. I began to pray and I asked God to let a cop see him so that he could get a ticket, something enough to scare him so that he would not hurt himself or someone else. I know he had to have a mother or someone that loved him. He rode his bike like this for 3 long blocks, never once sitting down to correct his steering. I then lost him. Two months ago, my mom and I were driving near the Water Park on S. We saw 5-6 guys near the water park driving erratically on their bikes, doing tricks, holding back traffic, and this continued for a few long seconds. My mom yelled, “Call 911” I decided to follow as my mom actually called 911 since I was driving. The 911 operator did not know where the Water Park was, nor did he know where S and 47th was. Still on the phone with 911 for minutes, at least 3-4 minutes, trying to give this operator directions, my mom hung up in frustration. After she hung up, we stopped following them. On the 14 freeway, I saw a motorcyclists doing trick on the 14 Freeway, towards the AV. I saw the guy stand up on his seat on the freeway, no hands, and ride down the 14. I don’t know if this is a new thing, or what, but it is very dangerous. These young boys are putting their lives at risk and I have yet to see the police ticket them. I am sure it happens but I just wish they would get them before they kill themselves. I am terribly sorry that this person lost his life. I am sorry to the family that has to endure his loss. I pray that his mom finds strength to endure the days ahead of her – I can’t at all imagine her agony. To those who loved this person – mom, dad, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and friends – I am terribly sorry for your loss. No one deserves to lose anyone and I just hope that all of you get through this the best you can. My condolences to everyone who knew him.
