LANCASTER – The 79th annual Antelope Valley Fair & Alfalfa Festival kicks off in Lancaster this Friday, featuring headline performers, thrilling carnival rides, exciting auto events, exotic animals, great food, and much more.
Themed “Cele-Grape-Tion!” the 10-day event opens at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, located at 2551 West Avenue H. Admission and parking are free from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday only, then the fee is $11 for adults; $8 for children age 6-11 and seniors age 62 and older; and free for children under 6. The Fair closes on Sunday, Aug. 27.
New at the AV Fair
New attractions this year include the McCarty BMX Show, a team of professional riders performing freestyle stunts daily; a “Walk On The Wild Side” exotic animal show, featuring a cougar, baby wallaby, Canadian lynx, baby lion, binturong and bobcat; and the Antelope Valley Fair Tech Expo, featuring STEM projects and activities from schools across the Antelope Valley.
Community stages of entertainment
The Camacho Auto Sales/Mitsubishi stage will feature nightly Tina Marie Hypnotist Shows; the City of Palmdale La Plaza Stage will feature nightly performances by Mariachi Descendencia; the Vallarta Supermarkets Variety Stage will feature local bands; and the Corona Cantina will once again feature a variety of tribute bands and other groups.
Palmdale Auto Mall Concert Series
The 2017 Palmdale Auto Mall Concert Series will feature Cameo and special guests, The S.O.S Band on Aug. 18; The Doobie Brothers on Aug. 19; La Arrolladora Banda El Limon and Banda Machos on Aug. 20; Cole Swindell and the comedy team of Williams & Ree on Aug. 21; Gabriel Iglesias Fluffymania: Twenty Years of Comedy Tour on Aug. 22; and Jon Pardi & Eli Young Band on Aug. 23. All concerts start at 7:30 p.m., with the exception of the La Arrolladora Banda El Limon/Banda Machos concert, which starts at 7 p.m. For concert prices and to purchase tickets online, click here.
Arena events
Once the concerts are completed, the Rally KIA Arena Events start with Figure 8 Races on Aug. 24; the Traxxas Monster Trucks Destruction Tour on Aug. 25; Rural Olympics and Fireworks on Aug. 26; and Demolition Derby on Aug. 27. Season Admission Passes
New this year is the $18 A.V. Fair Season Admission Pass, which is valid for entry every day of the Fair. The $18 Season Pass can only be purchased online.
