PALMDALE – A free information workshop for artists interested in affordable housing will be held this Wednesday, city officials announced.
The workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the Chimbole Cultural Center’s Lilac Room, located at 38350 Sierra Highway in Palmdale.
The workshop will present information on eligibility, application requirements, resident selection and criteria for the new Courson Arts Colony East (CAC East), currently under construction at 939 East Avenue Q-12.
CAC East will offer artists a permanent place to live, create and thrive in the Antelope Valley.
The apartment community features art-focused amenities, such as a ground-floor art gallery, digital art space, flexible art creation space, dance studio, art paseo and outdoor amphitheater.
For an application or to learn more, call 800-801-8440, ext. 7206.

Alexis says
“Courson Arts Colony,” a veterans housing project.
Alby says
Now everybody’s gonna be an artist.
Gina says
Does this appy to struggling musicians?
Tim Scott says
I think so. Check in at the workshop.
Michael Otnisky says
I am curious….what did Palmdale build for its’ veterans?
Tim Scott says
The entire Courson Arts Colony project is ‘veterans preferred’ housing. No doubt they will be going over that at the workshop, but it has been announced numerous times before.
AMBER FREY WILKINS says
VETS ARE NOTHING BUT DRUG ADDICTS THEY USES UP ALL THE MONTHLY BENEFITS ON CRACK AND HARD DRUGS WE NEED TO DRUG TEST VETERANS I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF VETS TAKING OUR JOBS JUST BEACUSE THEY GO AND KILL PEOPLE OVERSEAS DOESNT MAKE THEM HEROS
No Doubt says
STFU Amber. Sit down snowflake, before you hurt yourself. Stay in school and learn proper grammar. It sounds like you need to be drug tested.
By the way, how many jobs did you lose to vets? I have a feeling they didn’t hire you because you are a psycho.
Tim Scott says
At a guess, the all caps resume probably turned them off.
Laughing says
Ms Amber,
As a veteran I have been drug tested for most of the jobs I have applied for. The couple of times I did use social services funding for my kids the money was definitely spent on the rent and food, not drugs. Veterans usually only get preference over other applicants for government jobs (such as state or federal positions). By the way, not all veterans are combat veterans. The Armed Services has many more support positions than it does actual combat positions. In case you were unaware.
My advice to get a job… look your personal best, get an decent education, be civil to others, smile.
Also you have the option to live the American Dream, which is not to work for others as an employee but to start your own business and then build it to hire others.
Veteran says
You’re as anti Veteran as Rex Parris. Disgusting.
Tim Scott says
Agreed. Though an anonymous commenter on the internet on the internet isn’t really a problem. An activist and corrupt mayor like Wrecks is a problem.
Graham says
So if you are a struggling artist, you get affordable housing? What about a struggling grocery bagger, or a struggling preschool teacher, or anything else?
Tim Scott says
Well, there isn’t any real evidence that grocery baggers greatly benefit from exposure to other grocery baggers, so a “Courson Grocery Baggers Colony” doesn’t seem like an idea who’s time has come.
Also, cities benefit from supporting the arts. Always have.
Laughing says
Made me chuckle Tim.
It is a valid question though.
Artists typically need a bit more room to develop their art than a normal low income apartment provides. Maybe that is one reason for an arts community, as well as what you pointed out about artists learning from one another and being inspired.
