John Ruh, 61, of Lancaster died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in the 44400 block of Division Street, according to the coroner’s office.
Ruh was working as a cashier when the business was robbed by two men, one of whom shot him in the chest before both fled on foot, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
No suspect descriptions were released.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger Tuesday afternoon announced that a $20,000 reward was posted for information that helps investigators solve the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.

this is just sad! Today, while sitting at the light at Sierra Hwy and J..we watched a drug deal go down. A white SUV and a man and woman in a silver KIA. The guy in the KIA was trying to get the heck out of there and almost hit 2 cars. The sheriffs in this town don’t care, we can’t even get them to stop the party house behind us.These people will party 14 hours in a single day. We call and call and call. We have tried to talk to the neighbors. They threaten to kill my dogs, to kick our asses, etc. We have told the police this. I don’t want to end up dead but it is happening way to much in our communities. Even these little kids walking home from school are disrespectful. Their mouths are terrible. They destroy people’s property, throw trash and you can’t tell them anything. Anyways, my point is I just don’t understand why all of this is happening. I didn’t know him outside of the cashier/ regular customer relationship but every time I went through there we would bs for as long as possible before he had to run off and help another loyal customer of his. I could tell that most of his customers knew him by name and enjoyed hanging out and talking to him as much as I did. It felt more like I was there to visit him instead of shop, like the items I was there to get were just an added bonus to our visit. Again, I didn’t know him outside of the Dairy but I could tell he was a great man! He definitely left an impression on me and his passing has left me sad all week. I can’t stop thinking about him and his happy face and how devastated his family must be. If he can make such an impact on me I can only imagine how his loved ones feel.. I look everyday sometimes 2-3 times hoping to see an update that the good for nothing, waste of life POS has been caught but until then I will pray that he doesn’t hurt anyone else and that his lowlife homies can’t stand the 20,000$ temptation and turn his selfish ass in or maybe he’s dumb enough to turn himself in thinkin he will get the 20 grand! Hey Ron, Thank you. You just hit the nail on the head, every time a hispanic person runs over someone, even by accident, they eat them alive, and this paper allows it. Yet, I made the comment once about the fact that in the shopping center located on Avenue J and Challenger, out of 100 crimes comitted in that place every year, 99 are comitted by african Americans. Once before when I wrote about this in their paper they deleted my comment, so why is there this effort to overprotect them? Even in tv commercials and movies, they have to forably put an african american and not an asian or any other race that is not fair for the rest of the races, and I’am not racist, I just don’t like things that are not fair. To answer your question…very few criminals actually keep quiet about their crimes. Usually someone who knows them, and might have known they were prone to commit the occasional robbery or other crimes, will consider murder to be ‘over the line’ and turn them in.
Satisfying your morbid curiosity about descriptions doesn’t have any effect on that either way.

I have been a resident of the Antelope Valley for many years and what used to be a peaceful community has now become crime ridden, especially in certain areas. I do not judge people by their skin color, I judge them by their actions. Statistically speaking, most of the crime in the A.V is committed by african americans. It is a fact, do your research. A statement does not have to be made regarding the race of the person(s) who killed this man…we already know.

I am going to find myself agreeing with Tim twice. Lord help us. To start, the mayor can’t clean up the city. He and the city council have a budget. He has no clue who ‘they’ are. Don’t be ignorant. They budget a certain amount of money for law enforcement. They also author local regulations to help law enforcement. Law enforcement is out doing their thing when and where they can. What more do you want? The rest of the work is actually up to “WE THE PEOPLE.” We have to be willing to call in problems. We have to be willing to be witnesses in court.
