Teen facing murder charge in carjacking, chase, fatal crash in Palmdale [updated]

LOS ANGELES – A teenage girl who allegedly carjacked a vehicle in Palmdale then caused a violent crash that killed a woman and injured four others in the woman’s family has been charged with murder and several other felonies, authorities said Friday.

“The District Attorney’s office filed murder, vehicular manslaughter, evading a peace officer which resulted in injury, carjacking, driving under the influence, misdemeanor hit and run, providing false identification to a peace officer, and driving while unlicensed charges against the suspect. There is no bail set for the suspect,” according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The incident started around 2:23 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, when deputies responded to the 37100 block of 47th Street East on a report of a carjacking. Shortly afterward, another deputy spotted the stolen vehicle and began chasing it. Then, in the 40100 block of 10th Street West, the carjacked vehicle crashed into an SUV containing Christine Jackson, her husband, her two teenage boys, and her baby boy.

They were all taken to a hospital where Christine Jackson died.

“The male adult, one of the teenagers and an infant that were in the victim’s vehicle are still receiving medical treatment,” the sheriff’s news release states.

Jackson’s husband, Matthew Newells, told NBC Los Angeles that the couple had blended their families and begun their second decade together with a wedding barely a week before the crash. View the NBC Los Angeles report here.

The teenage suspect’s name has not been released because she is a juvenile.

UPDATE/Correction:  The case was filed by the District Attorney’s Antelope Valley Juvenile Office, not the Sylmar Office. The case is being handled in Dept. A8 in the Michael Antonovich Courthouse in Lancaster, and the next court date is April 9.

Common sense says they’ll drop the misdemeanor charges since shes being charged with MURDER! Anybody who thinks this kid will be out of jail in a few months is, well, a hysterical idiot. Minors prosecuted in juvenile court would at the maximum serve their time up to the age of 25 years of age at CYA(youth prison) depending on the nature of the charge. Possibly transferred to the big-girls jail upon reaching 25. The charge is basically aggravated murder. Learn reading comprehension, learn how the court system works, learn something for the sake of humanity instead of operating on pure emotion. And, please, please don’t vote, nor procreate.

  3. She was HIGH! This is a drug case. but nobody cares… The cartels are laughing their butts off as they get rich… They laugh as we get high and kill each other…

    • “She was high this is a drug case, but nobody cares” is just an excuse. She was high because she choose to get high,car jack someone by force and speed down a public street disrecarding the public safety of others. That is the problem with our society today always making excuses for criminals. There is no excuse for what she did. She killed an inocent woman. It was her choice to break the law. Now she needs to face her punishment. No more excuses!!

    • Alcohol (a drug), can be purchased at supermarkets. Prescription drugs can be purchased either from a doctor or on the street.

  4. Under proposition 57 which was voted by the Voters, this juvenile offender WILL face charges and be handled by a Juvenile Judge not the DA Office. So, she will be out in few months at best Not years. Our lives are worth nothing but when the media propaganda machine needs our life for their agenda. Thank you, voters, for your support for criminal justice reform.

    • Our current justice system does not work; it needs to be cruel and unusual below the constitutional threshold prohibition, hanging her via due process from a court of law is a fitting punishment for her crime, easy for some to say no. But if it were their family member they would agree with me

    • You are correct, just maybe for the family members to see, this would be more acceptable to our socirty. As I said before, she is a rabid dog, there is no cure for such a dog, the dog must be put down by a court of due process, jury and law

  8. Just because the case starts out in juvenile court does not mean it ends there. The prosecutor usually is the one who recommends that a person be tried as an adult but the juvenile judge can also do this.

    I am curious as to why so many want to know her name though? What does that do? Do people want to go and harass her family and friends? Or perhaps they want to see if the girl is a specific minority so they can justify their hate filled tirade against a minority group?

  12. I am so close friends with this family, and this is just heartbreaking . This family needs justice , this family needs clarification, and this family needs peace . This is heartbreaking , and for my two friends , that whom are the two teenage boys who I’m so close with I pray for them and worry for them everyday, these children loved their mother so deeply, they loved their mom so much. That was their best friend! She did everything for them because they did everything to make her proud , and this teenage girl took that from them. This girl and her actions had messed up an entire family, took a loving soul away from these children and husband , this girl ruined them. And the most upsetting part is that the husband, the second to youngest and they baby boy are all in the hospital in a coma , and the oldest boy has to tell them the heartbreaking news of their mothers passing when they wake up…. why ? What caused such actions, what caused it. You never know what tomorrow brings.

  13. Do we get to blame the kid for her actions this time or do we call for stricter car laws…maybe more background checks before issuing a license?

    • A background check would not have helped because the suspect was a unlicensed driver. People who break laws do not care about laws. Stricter laws would not have changed this kids actions.

      • John, you misunderstand, Steve is an NRA fellating mouth-breather who tries to relate any crime where someone is killed with anything that isn’t a gun to gun control in an attempt to delegitimize gun control legislation. These feeble-minded people see mass shooting tragedies and immediately start pointing fingers at any crime where someone is killed by anything that isn’t a gun (Steve ignores the fact that the crime that led to this tragedy DID involve a gun).

        These flimsy analogies are as stupid as the people slinging them around. Cars were not created with the specific purpose of killing people. Guns were. People like Steve have been so thoroughly brainwashed by he gun lobby they fail to grasp this simple concept.

        The majority of gun control advocates do NOT want to take handguns, rifles, and shotguns from law-abiding citizens. They want weapons of war like the AR-15 off the streets. You can own and drive a car, but you cannot drive a weapon of war like a tank. You can, however, own an assault rifle designed to kill people in the most effective way possible.

        These are realities. Thankfully for the NRA and the rest of the gun lobby, there are enough stupid people like Steve out there who fail to grasp this simple reality, so lawmakers in the pocket of the gun lobby continue to get elected, blocking laws that would save the lives of innocent children.

Did some ghetto boyfriend give her too much dope? a carjacking is such a HUGE risk, I would like to hear what happened up to that moment… maybe she was not given a great hand in life…and you can’t judge if yours was better…..

    • She made a choice resulting in the tragic death of an innocent woman, who now leaves behind 3 sons and a husband . She needs to suffer the consequences!

In section 6254(f)(2) of the California Penal Code, the minor victim of crimes defined in certain sections of the Penal Code (which are listed in 6254(f) but do not include homicide) may be withheld at the request of the victim’s parent or guardian.I defy someone to produce an exclusion as to why the name of this individual cannot be released.

      • key thing it has nothing to do with the penal code it’s the law regardless it’s a child under the age of 18 it’s sad and unfourtunate but they can’t even question her or any child without the presence of the parent,custodial gaurdian,or a lawyer

        • @tay…Law Enforcement Officers are required to state Miranda rights to a juvenile in a language the juvenile understands.

  18. She took a life and destroyed that family. She gets what she deserves. Car jacking , running you pos . I’m tired of this nonsense and innocent people getting hurt or killed. I’m tired of paying for you fools, to stay in prison for the next 25 years . no matter what age you kill …you should be executed. Simple as that.

  19. California Welfare & Institutions Code Section 707(b) states that if this evil child was 14 years or older and has committed murder, she may be tried as an adult. Why is this killer being processed by a juvenile court? She behaved like a criminal adult. She was smart enough to drive then she was smart enough to know that escaping from police is a crime, driving at high speeds can injure or kill another driver on the road. This young, rabid, evil, unfit for rehabilitation child, who has Satan as a father and a Hyena for a mother is the epitome and the embodiment of Satan, must be tried, prosecuted , convicted and executed by lethal injection as an adult and body burn in hell.
