The shooting was reported about 3:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in the 15600 block of Newmont Avenue, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“Deputies discovered the victim, a Hispanic woman in her 20s, on the ground in front of a residence. She suffered at least one gunshot wound and was unresponsive,” the news release states.
Attempts to save her life were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead by responding fire department personnel.
“A male adult, believed to be the victim’s husband, was transported to Lancaster Station for further questioning,” the news release states.
There are no outstanding suspects, and the weapon believed used in the homicide was recovered at the scene, according to the news release.
The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATED: The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Sandy Mayberry. Her husband, 36-year-old Michael Mayberry, was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $2,000,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. As I read some people’s comments it truly makes me feel sick. Let’s not forget families have been shattered. A life of a amazing woman was ended so violently, children have lost their mother, they will grow up not knowing how good of a person she truly was. Not only was she a mother she was a sister, a daughter, a friend and so many more aspects of who she was to each individual person she knew. Ignorant people should keep their comments to themselves!

I just heard about that new shelter lake la is going to get. wow…how can that be good? don’t you guys have enough problems out there with lack of medical, dental, jobs, police presence, etc. ? I wonder who it was that decided that putting convicts, mentally, ill, homeless and convicts out there in an unlocked facility is a good idea. I think it’s just plain dumb and the community members need to be on your toes, have security cameras, guns, and good conversations with your children to make sure everyone stays safe.
