PALMDALE – Hoping to attract more attendees to its meetings and lessen the load of water-related meetings for directors and staff on the same day, the Palmdale Water District (PWD) Board of Directors voted to change its meetings to 6 p.m. every second and fourth Monday of the month, starting in April.
For more than a dozen years, the Board has been meeting at 7 p.m. every second and fourth Wednesday.
Board Vice President Kathy Mac Laren proposed the change because of too many water-related meetings occurring on Wednesdays that some Board members and staff have to attend. The Board also hopes that the earlier hour will make it easier for the public, especially for those who might be at the PWD office paying their bills near closing time at 6 p.m.
In addition, the new time will reduce overtime costs for staff.
“I really hope the earlier hour will help us draw more of the public to come to our meetings and get involved. This schedule is definitely worth trying,” Mac Laren stated.
Board members agreed to stick with the new schedule at least through December. They will revisit the schedule if the results are not what they expected.

Dissapointed Republican says
She has spent like a drunken sailor and the local Republican Party leadership continues to support Nancy Smith. WHY !!! She is the Democrats and teachers union best friend. Time to hold our elected Republicans accountable for her spending spree!! Lackey, Wilk and Knight why is this.
Save the Whales says
Kathy Job Killer Mac Lauren was largely responsible for the loss of hundreds of union construction jobs and hundreds more full time jobs at Kinkisharo. Who needs recessions when we have people like her running around under the guise of saving the environment. She does not seem too concerned about what the solar farms are doing to the West Valley in terms of spreading Valley Fever, creating dirt and dust pollution, and destroying wildlife habitat.
She sure was concerned about the environment over Kinkisharo. This is from the article on the AV Times from 2014 –
Kathy Mac Laren, a Palmdale resident and member of AVRRD, said the group’s plan was reasonable enough. “It will protect residents from harmful emissions and provides a safe path to ensure water access in this desert region,” Laren stated in the Oct. 7 article. “As a taxpayer whose hard-earned dollars help pay for this project, I want to see more accountability from Kinkisharyo.”
Palmdale Pulse says
Kathy “ job killer” Mac Laren is the main reason people stay away. Her bully style is so obvious and the vote is already a done deal due to her pro union majority on that board. The President cannot make a decision without her agreement and can barely talk and chew gum at the same time. Our water district is in serious trouble just like the Palmdale School District. Both are union controlled bodies that overspend on employee benifits that they cannot afford. The school district is flat out broke.
Disappointed Republican says
I have seen first hand how the Palmdale School District spends money they do not have. Yes they have bond money but it’s the day to day operating money they have overspent. Nancy Smith the real “superintendent” has turned Democrat in her support of the teachers union and it is known her children are teachers so there is a motive. A reliable source has told me the board were told they didn’t have the budget for last years pay increase yet they payed it anyway. Somebody should audit the school district budget.
