PALMDALE – Sheriff’s detectives are looking for witnesses to come forward with information that will assist in the investigation of car collision on Feb. 18 that left a 16-year-old girl dead.
Jasmine Destiny Santiago died at the hospital less than two hours after she was hit by a car while crossing the street in Palmdale.
The collision occurred around 9:39 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, on 47th Street East just north of Avenue S, according to a news release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“The preliminary facts of this investigation indicate a black 2015 Nissan Altima driven by a 25-year-old male was traveling northbound on 47th Street East, in the No. 1 lane. The driver collided into a 16-year-old female pedestrian, who was crossing 47th Street East from the west side of the roadway to the east side. The pedestrian was not crossing in a designated crosswalk,” the sheriff’s news release states.
Santiago was rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m. The driver of the Nissan Altima was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and booked at Palmdale Station, according to the sheriff’s news release.
The driver was not named in the sheriff’s news release, and detectives could not be reached for comment regarding the identity of the driver.
No charges had been filed as of March 9 in connection with Santiago’s death, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Anyone who witnessed this collision is encouraged to contact Detective Aaron Borits at 661-272-2609 or by email at Agborits@lasd.org.

Any witness would be most helpful. Do not let this POS walk. He killed and innocent girl. A loved one.

This 16 year old young girl was killed by a drunk driver. She was related to the mayor of San Fernando. This information is in another article if anyone took the time to read other sources! Folks that can’t wait, use this forum to promote their own agenda by saying the drunk driver is a person of great importance or a cop. Some folks don’t care about the facts when it comes to this article.

My husband is in jail now for drunk driving with his kid but someone can get away by killing a 16 year girl I’m calling it he is in law Enforcement I bet he is deputy.
Tim Scott says
Too direct a connection. If he was a deputy he’d have never been arrested. Arrested but not charged is some other organization out of their own jurisdiction, like maybe LAPD.
Alexis says
Truly amazing! The name of the driver Hasn’t been released yet, nor have charges been filed. So now he must be someone of great influence, or maybe a cop. There is another article about this precious soul that has died, that says she is the cousin of a grandchild of the mayor of San Fernando. Now take that and add it to your speculations.
Tom says
The guy was probably under the limit. And if so seeing that she walked into his path. She’s at fault. Now if the tables were turned, and he was under the limit yet drove onto the curb and killed her he would defiantly be charged with manslaughter. The wont give his name till charges are filed for his protection IF he is innocent

His headlights were not on. He was driving over the speed limit & under the influence. Take it from a cousin of the victim, Jasmine was a 16 year old girl, her brain not fully developed. She was smart, but also a child still. The driver was a 25 year old grown man, with a fully developed brain. He knew right from wrong and he knew he was intoxicated that night. My cousin is not at fault, the driver is. He should be charged not only with a DUI but vehicular manslaughter. He went back to the scene and confessed. He obviously knew he was at fault. Before you start accusing my cousin of being at fault for HER death, maybe you should consider the lives affected by this tragedy. Her parents, siblings, friends, and family. Have a heart.
Tm says
I agree and sorry for your loss, and no matter what , pedestrians always have the rightaway.. this guy should do some time hopefully
Cindy says
A better question would be why is a 16 year old girl j-walking by herself at almost 10:00pm at night in Palmdale?Sad that she died? Yes. Did she and her legal guardian contribute to her death? Yes.
Laughing says
Hmmm, at 16 I used to walk home, either from work or a friends house.
The j-walking was a bad choice though.
Alexis says
@Cindy…At 16 years old, I know I crossed the street, not using the designated crosswalk during the day, and a night too. Plus I did a lot more stupid stuff, like setting off a flare with some friends at foster freeze. Oh, and so much more.
anonymous says
She wasn’t alone. She was with he older brother. Before you start judging have a heart and consider the fact that you obviously know nothing. Stop being so goddamn ignorant.
Prayer says
Why are they protecting the identity of a drunk driver??..it must be one of their own or someone in law enforcement status maybe even a judge cuz they really tired one on when they get off the bench…. trust me it is someone of great influence in this city that they won’t give up the name as of yet.
RF says
*Alleged* drunk driver.
Karen says
Right… one of our judges used to go to work drunk in the afternoon he was sent to rehab and is back on the bench…. no testing but his court reporters say he still drinks he’s always late in the afternoon… can you believe this? What is wrong with that picture?
Laughing says
A 25 year old judge?
Tim Scott says
Sounds like a ridiculous fantasy parroted from some alt-right echo chamber.
Tim Scott says
Arrested for DUI at the time, but no charges have been filed and they are looking for witnesses? Was the driver a cop?
R says
So many innocent people have been arrested for DUI only to have bloodwork prove innocence and the DA declining to file charges. It happens a lot more than people realize. Not saying that is the case here, but it could be a possibility.
