LANCASTER – A 23-year-old Lancaster man died early Sunday morning after he fled the California Highway Patrol and, while on the wrong side of the road, crashed head on into a sheriff’s patrol vehicle, authorities said.
The fatal collision occurred around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, March 11, on Avenue F east of 15th Street West in Lancaster, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The suspect driver, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene; while a passenger in his vehicle, 30-year-old Antonio Adam Enriquez of California City, sustained moderate injuries and was transported via ambulance to Antelope Valley Hospital. The female deputy in the marked black and white patrol vehicle sustained injuries to her left side and was transported to a hospital where she was listed in stable condition, officials said.
The incident that preceded the fatal crash began on the northbound SR-14 Avenue F off-ramp, when two CHP officers on routine patrol pulled in behind two vehicles that were stopped, according to the CHP report.
As the officers approached the vehicles, “the driver of the 1998 Volvo drove off, leaving the scene, turning onto eastbound Avenue F,” the CHP report states. The other driver advised the officers that he had been rear-ended by the Volvo, according to the CHP report.
The CHP officers pursued “the Volvo and made an attempt to pull it over by activating the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights (Code 3). The Volvo almost immediately, for unknown reasons, veered to the left and crashed head-on with an LASD patrol vehicle that was traveling westbound on Avenue F,” the CHP report states.
“The LASD Deputy was responding to a call she had been dispatched to, with no lights or siren, completely unaware of this incident,” the CHP report states.
“Alcohol and/or drugs is suspected to be a factor in this traffic collision, pending Los Angeles County Coroner’s toxicology report,” the CHP report states.
Avenue F, from 20th Street West to Sierra Highway, was closed until around 1 p.m. Sunday, March 11, to allow for the investigation. The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Officer Ken Wheeler or Officer Gil Hernandez at the Antelope Valley CHP Office at 661-948-8541.
UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as Dominique Johnson, 23, of Los Angeles, according to coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz.

There are always consequences to our actions. In this case the individual making a series of bad choices. Driving while possibly impaired, having a traffic collision, running from the CHP, driving down the wrong way of a roadway ALL result in his death and injury to others. He DECLINED his day in court (due process) when he chose to run and crashed into the deputy’s vehicle. He choice of plan B instead of plan A (due process) putting everyone on the same roads in danger of life and limb. Selfish in every way causing pain and suffering to his family and those injuries. I have no sympathy for him because he made his own choice to self-terminate and decline his day in court.

You disrespectful , and don’t say that about my family. If you don’t have anything nice to say than don’t say it at all. He didn’t deserve this and at the end of the day don’t nobody know what really happ nd not even you and them sheriffs don’t also. Why would she flash her high beam lights to stop him .. but on another article it states that she only turn d her lights on to reach for something so wh really telling the truth something ain’t right and I don’t believe none of this

… Which makes it a head on crash – Both vehicles’ left bumpers made contact point to point or ‘head on’ – Thus resulting in a head on crash albeit with a dominant left force impact – He hit the Sheriff’s veh on the drivers side front left bumper with his left front and that impact had a splitting effect on both vehicles with potential to cause major damage and injuries to both drivers and passengers on left side of vehicle. Hence the outcome. Sheriff’s veh appears to be a Tahoe and his car was outweighed and obviously sits lower which added to the increase in damage and greater injury of the driver, which in this case caused fatal trauma. I’m sure he has family and friends who are hurt and devastated and only him and his passenger know the reasons why he was fleeing but his decisions resulted in his loss of life. It’s unfortunate but all of this could of been prevented had he made better choices. The CHP and Sheriff didn’t act as judge, jury and executioner – He chose to represent himself and unfortunately lost the case. That could of been anyone driving the opposite direction that he hit while fleeing from CHP – We all drive out here and have families and he could of crashed into one of us or a family member and hurt or killed one of us or our family so while I don’t applaud the outcome I’m not going to condemn law enforcement for simply doing their jobs. People need to get over the conspiracy theories. A deputy is injured, a young man is dead and now the fingers are starting to point at law enforcement? I don’t think so. Had he crashed into a civilian would the finger be pointed at the civilian with the attitude that if Suzie Q Citizen hadn’t of the house that night she would of never been on the road and he wouldn’t of hit her when he was fleeing from the CHP after being involved in another accident minutes earlier on the freeway. Are we going to blame the CHP for his death for simply doing their jobs and going after someone who had just fled an accident? Why is it so hard for people to place accountability where it belongs the most? I’m sure the CHP didn’t take off after him with the hopes of him swerving into another car and passing away as a result. This was another example of what happens when someone makes bad decisions. Bad decisions lead to negative consequences. What is so hard to grasp?
Tim Scott says
Since you asked, what is hard to grasp is the “saved a trial good thing they are dead” responses. There is nothing going on of the “pointing a finger at law enforcement” nature that I have noticed.
Good post by the way.

Seriously you are all delusional. ALL POLICE ARE NOT TRYING TO FREAKING KILL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE BEING LIED TO BY THE GEORGE SOROS FUNDED BLM BOWEL MOVEMENT THAT HAS MANIPULATED THIS NATION INTO THE POINT OF A NEAR CIVIL WAR!!!!!!!!!!! WHO WANTS THAT? THE SAME PEOPLE WHO MANIPULATED PEACEFUL COUNTRIES IN THE EARLY 20th CENTRY INTO 2 WORLD WARS.
THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cindy says
Incorrect report information by CHP. This was NOT a “head on crash”. The patrol car was hit towards the side which is why both side airbags came down. Initial point of impact was the left fender on both vehicles.
Tim Scott says
I’m not sure how “head on crash” is defined. From the article and pictures it looks like the two cars going opposite directions clipped left headlight to left headlight. Not the classic straight on nose to nose square hit, but when they hit going opposite directions “head on” seems like the best description.
Mike says
Tim Scott…we know you dont know how things are defined…it’s just odd to actually see you admit it. This type of crash is called an off-set frontal crash. Testing for this type of crash is conducted by the IIHP and researched/monitored by the NHTSA on all manufactured new vehicles. The testing in the “frontal” crash testing series, among others, are those that are conducted to assess the crash protection worthiness of vehicles. So now that we all know you are one of the more ignorant undesirables who frequents this site, it’s time to take your place in the gutter and lie quietly still like the piece of left wing garbage that you are.
With that being said, I hope you are driving one of the vehicles with the lowest rating. May an out of control dump truck find you in an intersection soon:)
Mike says
Yea. Never mind the fact that the FRONT of the Volvo is completely demolished. Must have been some heck of a side impact. Smh.
Alexis says
@Cindy…The driver of the Volvo crashed head on into the left side of the sheriff’s patrol vehicle.

Nope I can say whatever I want. He put innocent lives at stake due to his driving. My family , your family hundreds of family. He got what he deserves.. rather him then my family or anyone else..

Meme grow up! Who are you to say who deserves to die?! We’ve all including you have been young and dumb! Made and will continue to make bad choices and mistakes! Let you without sin cast the first stone! It’s an unfortunate situation no matter which way you look at it praying for the officer and the young mans family.
Tim Scott says
Right! Every lawbreaker deserves to die! None of this ‘trial by jury’ stuff either!
By the way MeeMee, if you’ve ever gotten a traffic ticket you could show your commitment to the cause by blowing your head off.
MeeMee says
Lmao… Tim.scott… that’s a bit dramatic.. your a sensitive one aren’t you.. I am good though thanks. But you feel free… Bye bye
Tim Scott says
Not really sensitive, but consistent. I give pretty much the same answer whenever anyone calls for “let’s just have the death penalty administered on the streets by cops, we don’t need all these laws and rights and stuff.” You may think such totalitarianism would be a good thing, but I don’t.
Karen says
Or maybe he was afraid he would be killed by cops???? After all with all the media about cops killing going on young adults are probably fearful to pull over and try to get away ….. just a thought…. not accusing anyone but rather saying people are really afraid of the police these days….
Karen says
I’m frightened for my life… my son had a grandma seizure and he was coming out of it acting nutty when the cops were called they beat him and in front of me threatened to kill my son if they ever saw him again. No discipline was ever handed out to that particular cop… and cops have broke in my home since and intimmadate and frighten me…. I’m so scared I cry every night I don’t know what to do….
Rick says
That’s odd – It seems that the media is full of cops being killed and ambushed these days so maybe the CHP were running away from him because they thought that he might be after them? Your story seems a bit … Delusional. Aside from having nothing to do with this incident and totally irrelevant.

@Karen Please move, run for the hills. Sell your house ASAP. Your part of the problem if your so terrified go live in Africa or Canada.
