The fatal collision happened around 4:43 p.m. Friday, March 16, on Avenue I and 50th Street West, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
“Preliminary information gathered at the scene revealed a Geo Prism sedan being driven by an adult male was traveling westbound on Avenue I. A Chevrolet Silverado truck was traveling south on 50th Street West,” the news release states.
“According to witnesses, the Chevrolet [Silverado truck] was entering traffic with a green light and the Geo Prism failed to stop at the red light. The impact caused the Chevrolet Silverado to collide into the Toyota Rav4 that was stopped for the red light facing eastbound on Avenue I,” the news release states.
The Geo Prism’s driver died of his injuries at the hospital, according to the news release. His name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
The drivers of the Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Rav4 were transported to a local hospital. Their names or the extent of their injuries were not immediately released.
“Driving under the influence and the speed of the vehicles [are] under investigation,” the sheriff’s news release states.

From a horrendous wreck of an elderly homeless widow and loss of life come all this talk of guns..what is wrong with people, are you not getting enough attention, so you switch the actual topic ? The person who died probably had no intention of running the light, you cannot at time’s when driving West see the color of the lights especially at that intersection! I know I have driven that road many times in 40 years! His Death is a shame, anyone else that was hurt it’s a shame, what’s worse why was this man homeless when he has family and so soon after loosing his wife…people just don’t give a dam about any thing but what they have, well now someone has no parents nor grandparents.. and save your gun issues for somthing that they pertain to…please be sensable!

What’s wrong with people? So heartless! All schools AV hopefully beef up security this week…. I found out the some ROTC students are modifying AR15s and Ak47s… for the big walk out. My nephew who was in the highland high program said that the kids are meeting after school modifying the guns to illegal issue to fight for the cause of political gun power. This is second hand knowledge but since one of the Rotc… kids broke in my home and killed my German Shepard at the early age of 7 …
He attends Highland High… modifies illegal guns I want it known so schools have high security for the next days. This is not an accusation however a real deal that was shared to me by a ROTC Studend from highland high….. A bunch of ROTC…. kids are building modifying illegal AR15S…. AND AK47S…. for a rebellion on rights. I hope he was just joking but just in case please look into it. After all they had no problem killing my search and rescue dog and breaking into my home…. he was only 7…. my dog. Im not slandering either… This word of mouth came from a student from Highland High. Just look into it that’s all I ask.

I do not want any legal reunification from my post. These kids made it sound too real to be a lie… I’m just doing this to insure safety of others in case these stories are real. Investigate the kids please…. sheriff I’ve ran to you a million times please take me serious just in case it’s true. I haven’t slept good since I was told what these kids were doing. I don’t care who owns guns legal or not… what scares me is political threats from young adults who are fixated on guns… guns don’t kill people kill… These kids are probably getting brainwashed from an adult afraid of losing his gun rights. Whatever the case a young man shared this with me so I feel obligated to share in case this is the real deal.

High school reserve officer training course with AR15 & AK 47????????? Really. I doubt it. They maybe drilling with dummy rifles (Chrome plated M1) but NOT real M-16/M-4 on school grounds. AK 47 are use world word wide by China, Russia, North Korea and many middle east countries but NOT by USA ROTC or by our active, reserve or national guard/Air guard. US military have used the AK47 in our op force training. You must also believe that real ammo not blanks are used in military/ law enforcement funerals.

I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. He has 2 new grandchildren and 3 adult children. He was most likely distraught. Please, his family is reading this and in pain. Graciousness would be well served here.

I’m sure he wasn’t racing as much as completely distraught. He lost his wife recently and his home as well. I think he was racing maybe to get to the homeless shelter before cut off time. This is a complete tragedy in every direction. I didn’t even know that he was in a homeless shelter until after he died. I am so sorry for those who got injured as well and I’m praying for everyone involved.
