1 killed, 1 injured in head-on collision on Pearblossom Hwy

PALMDALE – One driver died and another driver sustained major injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle following a head-on collision Friday morning on Pearblossom Highway, authorities said.

It happened around 5:20 a.m Friday, May 4, on Pearblossom Highway east of Small Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Roland Edward Aguilar, 37, of Palmdale was driving a 2017 Nissam Altima eastbound on Pearblossom Highway when he “allowed his vehicle to veer to the left into the westbound lane directly into the path of [a 2004 Toyota Tacoma], the CHP report states.

“As a result, the Toyota and the Nissan crashed head on. Following this impact, the Toyota overturned and came to rest on its roof on the westbound shoulder,” the CHP report states.

The Toyota’s driver, a 48-year-old Palmdale man, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP report. His name has not yet been released pending next of of kin notification.

“Mr. Aguilar was trapped inside of his vehicle and had to be extricated by Los Angeles County Fire personnel. Mr. Aguilar suffered major injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital for his injuries,” the CHP report states.

The traffic collision remains under investigation.

Don’t any of you think that if Roland Aguilera was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol that these facts would be made to the public already, or does the av paper not care enough to do a follow up. All of you who are demonizing Mr Roland Aguilera without all of the facts are just idiots and judgemental. People like you are the reason that rumors exist . Because all of you speaking about facts not in evidence are just jumping to conclusions or listening to the one saying what they think or feel is true. Let both families heal by not spewing the crap/rumors. The accident investigation team will determine who is at fault not any of you bias judgemental people of the world.If Mr Roland Aguilera is at fault it will be determined by the investigation. Not that the av paper will print a follow up to this artical because the damage is already done to the Aguilera family. I would live to see what all of you would have to say if Mr Roland Aguilera was found not to be at fault, but we all know that won’t happen.

  2. I think everyone should shut the [removed] up. Because I know The Aguilar Family, no one knows what the [removed] happened. Having Roland’s mom read all the [removed] that everyone is assuming is heart breaking. So please stop jumping to conclusions. We will soon know who was at fault. Until then, everyone should just mind their own business. I’m not backing up neither of them because again, we don’t know exactly what happened.

    • Who was at fault? Roland is at fault. There was witnesses who confirmed it. Julio was killed by his negligence.

    • He was definitely impaired maybe not drunk but impaired or suicidal there aré witnesses and very reliable sources that state who was at fault and that was Roland no one who is in in a good state to drive crashes twice in one hour so get the fuck out of here

  3. My deepest sympathies and prayers for the family of Julio he was an innocent man that his life was taken in an instant. For the family of Mr. Aguilar my prayers are also with you that finding our that a loved one has caused the life another is a tragic thing. Coping with the aftermath. May you have peace that our Heavenly Father Jehovah is God of the living and that our loved ones are in his memory.-Lk. 20:38.   4. I love how everyone automatically is assuming facts unknown. I was involved in a very bad accident 3 years ago where I flipped my car with my daughter and 2 friends in the car. Everyone assumed I was drinking and driving. I was cut off and to avoid hitting that person I ended up hitting a semi. I totaled my car but like I said everyone is jumping to conclusions without all of the facts as most people do. It is a tragedy that the other driver died and my thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. Do I know Roland Aguilera, absolutely. This doesn’t have anything to do with my comment. My comment is because like I said we don’t know all of the facts but some people are assuming the worst , just like they did with my accident , which by the way was at 12:38 I’m the afternoon. I was taking the kids out for lunch.

  6. Me. Aguilera is a good friend of the family and has always been responsible . I highly doubt he was drinking and driving or texting . I am so sorry for the other driver who lost his life. May God give them peace in their hearts.

    • Like a broken record: “… oh, not my baby boy, Roland. He’s so responsible, and good, and upright. He’s such a good boy! Oh, he’d never drive drunk.” That’s what they always say.

      • @Thelma…The article doesn’t say he was driving drunk. I don’t think you would like it if someone you cared for was being demonized without facts.

  7. ‘Why isn’t the state doing anything? With all these deaths , adding extra lanes, upgrading shoulders and improving the roadway by adding a barrier and lights lights please! WTF ?

  9. Well the good news here is the 138 will finally be an 8 lane freeway. Starting in June 2018 the state will be purchasing land of the fwys. path. The bad news is 10 years until it opens.

    • Is this land purchase the plan following P8 across from the 14 then a brief zig zg to parallel Palmdale Blvd to the 15?

  10. This is just tragic, sadly the Tacoma driver had to be involved, this is a daily road for my father everyday at 5am it’s sad knowing that you could leave your house to go to work but never make it ): condolence to the family of the Tacoma

This has been heart breaking for all of us at work, the 48 year old man was a hard worker a very responsible driver who had a lot of experience behind the wheel, he was on his way to work in Woodland Hills, he was only minutes away from his home, very sad day for me and all of us who knew him,I trust that after the investigation is completed anyone responsible for causing this accident should be punished to the maximum extent of the law, we will miss you Julio.

  12. Too many accidents in that area, caltrans needs to build a concrete barrier and people need to pay attention and slow down

  13. That damn hwy becomes more dangerous and crowded, with every month that passes. With the amount of drivers using cell phones and texting, it’s getting worse.
    That hwy is not large enough for those idiots that abuse their phones, and the speeders, and those of us that drive with caution.
    I will avoid that hwy, from now on, at all cost.

  14. I wonder was Mister Aguilera intoxicated it always seems that they survive and the other gentleman perished in the accident…the 48 year old Palmdale man dead at the scene,….

    • At 5:20 in the morning, he probably was half asleep. Why jump to conclusions about drinking?

      • Being half asleep is as bad as being intoxicated so he should be charged with negligent homicide or manslaughter if found to have been either.

      • I think drugs and alcohol are on the first line of Investigation so I’m not jumping to a conclusion that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol I’m a truck driver myself over 48 states and that’s the first thing they want to know because we are considered professional drivers. Whatever the case may be there was an innocent person in the other vehicle either beginning his day or ending his day and the Survivor drifted over into his Lane. Read this satistics as to how many accidents are caused by impaired drivers here in Antelope Valley and how many of them were intoxicated even to the situation of driving cars through walls killing sleeping individuals so no I’m not jumping to a conclusion I wish we had a resolution to stop this.
