LLANO – A female driver died Monday afternoon when her vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle, killing the other driver, authorities said.
The double fatal collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, on 170th Street East just south of Avenue S, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Beatriz Santiago, 32, of Palmdale was driving a 2013 Honda Accord northbound on 170th Street East when, for unknown reasons, she allowed her vehicle to “veer left into the southbound [lane] and a head-on collision occurred,” the CHP report states.
Santiago’s vehicle came to rest on the dirt shoulder, while the second vehicle, a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser, overturned in a dirt field and burst into flames, according to the CHP report.
Both driver’s were pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased male driver of the Toyota FJ Cruiser has not yet been identified, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Tuesday afternoon.
Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Officer Alonzo at the Antelope Valley CHP Office at 661-948-8541.

Jerry Brown's fault giving everyone a driver's license says
Sad news but Jerry Brown should be blamed for all this trouble giving people driver’s licenses that doesn’t deserve them
Tim Scott says
Yeah, cancelling those driver’s tests at the DMV was a terri…
Oh, wait, that didn’t happen.
By offering driver’s licenses (that are clearly marked as only for driving purposes) to people who couldn’t or wouldn’t provide documentation of citizenship we managed to push people who were going to drive anyway to go through the training and testing process.
The question is, how do we get uninformed dingbat citizens to learn some facts before we allow them to vote.
One time I agree with Tim S says
Very true and they only have to take the written test and not the driving test which should have been illegal

The sooner we perfect vehicles that can drive themselves, the sooner these tragedies don’t happen.
Despite the occasional accident (even fatal) involving a self-driving car that you see on the news, the data is evident. Based on accidents and fatalities per mile driven, the self-driving cars we have today are already safer than a vehicle being driven by a human being.
The careless and wreckless drivers behind the wheel are the problem. Remove them from the equation, and so few people will die in car accidents it will barely even be worthy of a statistic.

Nunya says
Why do you ask?
JoJo says
Yes it was. Do you know him?
Jim Anthony says
I SQUISH is the worst most aggressive driver I’ve ever encountered. I’ve had to slam on my brakes when he cut me off, and veer into another lane because of his driving. I’m pretty sure that he caused the crash, I think the investigators got it wrong. By the way, I drive that road every day, and came across this crash just after it happened.
JoJo says
Well… actually when someone else’s vehicle is completely on the wrong side of the road and the only indication that anybody tried to avoid the accident was not the person on the wrong side I’d say the person who was not in their lane was at fault. And how [removed] dare you say such a horrific thing especially since you weren’t there.
Jim Anthony says
Hi JoJo,
We’ll see… when the truth comes out, and it will.

JoJo says
Jim…. the truth has already come out… do you have some vested interest in this or are you just an ass

According to the California Highway Patrol, 32-year-old Beatriz Santiago of Palmdale was driving northbound on 170th St E, just south of East Avenue S. For unknown reasons, her 2013 Honda Accord swerved into the southbound lanes and crashed into a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
I’m not sure how intelligent one has to be to understand that when a head on accident occurs because one driver is COMPLETELY IN THE OPPOSITE LANE IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC, it really isnt a question of fault; rather a question as to WHY the Honda driver wasn’t in her own lane and caused the death of herself and another innocent person.
TBundy says
good call Jim. FJ driver had priors

Curious: I’m glad you asked, I was wondering the same thing. See my reply to JoJo below.

Learning that ones family member caused the accident must be devastating. My heart and deep sympathies are with the families of the retired vet and the Santiago’s. May the love of Family, friends and above all our Almighty Heavenly Father Jehovah give you comfort and strength. And peace as in the promise in Revelation 21:4 ‘Where no more tears, death and mourning will be.’ For more comforting scriptures you may read them at jw.org.

How dare yoy people take pictures an d post it that’s very uncalled for have respect for the family members this is a very sick disgusting picture watch what happens i will sue you…
Brit says
I’m sorry you lost a family member but you cant sue anyone for posting a picture of a car accident. Pictures get taken and psted all the time of accidents. Theres no deceased bodies in view in the pictures and it’s not on private property.
Again sorry about your loved one but nothing was done wrong here by the av times.
Concerned Citizen says
I personally do not find it offensive, there are no up close pictures or disrespectful photos. It sounds like you are a family member in mourning and for that I am sorry for your loss….
Nunya says
You wouldn’t find it offensive because it isn’t YOUR family member or loved one burning inside the [removed] car while photos are being taken! His wife didn’t even know that the car caught on fire until now, and she certainly didn’t need to see photos of her husbands last moments!!
What the [removed] is wrong with you people?!?!?!
Tim Scott says
FWIW, it is just as likely that he was killed instantly in the collision, before the car caught fire, so those aren’t his last moments. Choosing to believe that may be a comfort.
As to the propriety of reporting accident photos…the assault on freedom of the press that would be required to get to the level of restriction you are calling for here would have consequences so far beyond anything that you could possibly want. In the depths of your grief you probably aren’t seeing that, and I certainly don’t blame you, but with time you will probably agree.
Hater says
You can’t sue you dummy why do you think the news post pictures
Jim Anthony says
Family, I’m very sorry for your loss. I’ve encountered the ISQUISH Toyota driver, he’s cut me off and I’ve seen him do the same to others. He was such a rude and aggressive driver that if I were you I would ask for further investigation as to the cause of the crash. A second opinion so to speak.

It happened way before 3:30 pm. I was at dollar general on 138 in Littlerock around 1pm. That’s when all the emergency vehicles went flying by so your time of accident is way off .

I believe that the way people drive in our city we should have dividers in highways like Pearblossom for example, or how many people have to died in order to do it?
It’s obvious that people isn’t responsible while driving and is unfair that innocent people have to died because irresponsable drivers.
