SANTA CLARITA – A Metrolink train struck and killed a man Friday evening in Santa Clarita.
The deadly collision was reported just about 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, in the area of Drayton Street and Railroad Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The victim — reported by the sheriff’s department to be a man — was pronounced dead at the scene, a fire department dispatcher said.
The train was No. 221 bound for Lancaster on the Antelope Valley Line, according to Metrolink.
Tracks were closed between Newhall and Santa Clarita and alternative transportation was being sought for affected passengers, Metrolink reported.
UPDATE: The death is being investigated as an apparent suicide, the coroner’s office reported Monday.

Tom says
The AV train has the most deaths of all Metrolink routes, yet it runs the least amount of trips daily.
Tim Scott says
The AV line does have the vast majority of the ‘boondock crossings’ in the system, so it shouldn’t be surprising for it to have the most crossing incidents.
