LANCASTER – Sheriff’s deputies are continuing their investigation into the Saturday evening shooting death of a man in Lancaster, with at least one person detained for questioning, authorities said.
The shooting was reported at 5:35 p.m. Saturday, June 9, on the 44700 block of 27th Street East, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“Deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded to the location near the residence regarding a ‘gunshot victim’ call. When deputies arrived they found a male adult, suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead,” the news release states.
The victim’s name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification, but he was a black man in his 40s, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
“A person was detained and a handgun was recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time,” the sheriff’s news release states.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

I don’t believe it has anything to do with population of people in the AV , just more people have dumbed down over the years and show their weakness by shooting someone instead of dealing with the situation like an adult. Like real people should, not how “ thugs” or ”wanksters” think it should be handled . A lot of people out here are too lazy or uneducated to think for themselves and do not know how to make real life choices and do not think about the consequences of murder, nor the value of life. Obviously they don’t seem to care enough for another’s life nor their own once they are caught.

You are hard to take seriously.
Violent crime rates run between 150 and 250 annually per 100,000 people, always have. So when the AV had 100,000 people and about five violent crimes per week (250 per year) the crime rate was actually high. Now we have 500,000 people and a low crime rate…which means about fifteen violent crimes per week (750 per year, more crime OMG!!!!!). I know this is math and there are people who see a number and their heads just explode, but it is actually pretty simple and I can’t imagine that anyone is really too stupid to get it.

So we can thank the Palmdale Sheriff Station for reaching out to local residents, and various programs to assist with community building, and crime prevention. This is the positive side of law enforcement. What is simple is why crime stats are down.
Alexis says
The crime rate is down in the A.V., according to the Sheriffs Dept.

Down from a high that was due to a massive influx of residents from L.A. in the 90s/00s, thanks to Section 8. Let’s keep things in context.
This place was very quiet. Now it has gang problems, graffiti problems, drug problems. This is because of the massive increase in population, the vast majority of whom are from an urban environment and most of whom are unemployed. There is a strong association with gangs, drugs, and crime in that demographic (this is true of all races, not just black folks).
And no, this is not about race whatsoever. It so happens in this case that the influx was mostly black folks, but if all of those people who came up here had been white we would STILL have had a massive increase in gangs and crime. It is NOT about race. It’s about culture.

I love the Antelope Valley.. Yes there is going to be violent crime here and there but you guys forget, there are over 350K peeps living up here. in the 1980s there were 100k.. It has tripped in size. Like any major city crime is going to happen. Murder is going to happen, I stay here in Eastside Lancaster because I moved here 3 years ago from South LA for many reasons. As a single mother my section 8 voucher provides me & my 3 teenage sons a better lifestyle. Yes I know your going to hate on me but im a single mother of 3 who got pregnant at 16 years old.. I have no education because I made a simple mistake at 15 years old and got pregnant. It happens.. For all you haters get over it.. I dont cause trouble up here so for all you haters I want you to know I earned my section 8 voucher and to rub salt in YOUR wounds I earned my $800 a month in food stamps and our Med-Cal for my family. Also im not lazy, I work hard its not my fault i cant find a good paying job and all i can get is a part time job.
Alexis says
@Keisha…You don’t have to defend yourself to others. Wear your hater blockers and keep up the good work.

Your reason for being out here is why a lot of people move here. Good for you to make the lives better for your kids. Just because you have kids young doesn’t mean anything. Keep your head up and keep doing what you need to for those boys. It’s your life and your kids.
Devils Eggvocate says
**It’s your life and your kids.**
And our money they’re living off of. Why do we not have any say? Do you think working people LIKE working? I’d love to have someone else pay my way.
And the point I’m making is not “Section 8 users are all evil and we should shoot them.” The point I’m making is those of us who pay to support people have a right to say “Please don’t harbor gang members and other criminals in your household.” We have a right to be angry when we go to work (to pay THEIR support) and their shack job comes to our home and robs us.
Tim Scott says
Good on you Keisha!
I think your numbers are a little light there as far as tripling in size. 350K is short for current population if you count all the unincorporated areas, and 100K might be a good number at the end of the eighties, or maybe even in the middle of the eighties, but it’s certainly high for the start of the eighties.
Triple (+) size does mean triple the crime, triple the traffic fatalities, triple whatever bad thing shows up on the front page for the day, but it also means a whole lot of good things that we did not have back in the days that the haters all think were so wonderful. When I was here in the seventies ALL I wanted was out, and I didn’t know anyone who didn’t feel the same way.

Keisha,
What a lot of criticizers don’t realize is that we are ALL one economic recession away from food stamps and begging for section 8 vouchers. Little story about me: I got laid off from a well-paying job in 2014 and couldn’t find work (I literally applied everywhere from .99 cent store to John Calandri Farms as a field worker). By the time my severance ran out I still couldn’t find gainful, full-time employment (I was interviewing nearly once a week and applying/searching up to 4 hours a day); admittedly, some days, I just sat around and did nothing because it was far easier to do nothing and browse the internet than to think about the fact that I still hadn’t found work and money was running out.
I resorted to working as a day laborer until Costco could pick me up as a part time, seasonal employee (I begged, bartered and traded days off to get 40 hours a week). Even working at Costco earning full time hours, I couldn’t make ends meet; had to get on the system and we got around $650 in food stamps every month and Medi-Cal for the whole family, although we couldn’t get cash-aid because of my Costco income. Fast forward to today, I no longer qualify for food stamps or any other general aid benefits; however, I am cognizant of the fact that my high-salary job I once again have can be lost at anytime.
Moral of the story: no one is safe from destitution or needing some form of assistance. I used to harshly judge those on the system until I needed that very system myself.
May God bless you, Keisha. I pray that God keep your boys safe and that they are afforded every avenue for prosperity. I pray that the cycle of general relief and medi-cal ends with your children. I pray that they never forget their mother’s struggles and they are kind to those that struggle. I also pray that you find full-time gainful employment and don’t have to spend the rest of your life living off a fixed income.

Amen, to all you yes most of us is moved up here 30 yrs, my husband was born here, I can tell you, most of the problems are because of the cheap rent, when my husband and were property managers in Palmade off of 5th street east and Q-2, we did background checks and it’s not cheap, good tenants will pay that, we kept our tenants for 10 yrs, we live in east Lancaster now, the house next door to us has had 8 tenants in 9 yrs, I have chased out 4 drug dealers and a registered pedophile that didnt tell anyone and he was watching little girls, so quit blaming others I blame property owners that just want money

It’s not your fault you can’t find a good paying job?
It’s absolutely your fault, you chose to have unprotected sex at 15 and have a kid altering your life forever. After you made the “simple mistake” at 15 why have 2 more kids when you don’t have a husband a job or an education and know you won’t be able to support them on your own? If there was no goverment tit for you to suck on what would you do? And by you saying haters I’m assuming you’re referring to the tax payers who are supporting you right? You don’t sound very appreciative of all the free money you’ve been given throughout your life.

The truth hurts, eh? Tell me what is admirable about having children you can’t afford. Continuing to have them after that first “mistake.” Probably by different “baby daddies.” Many of whom are gang members.
What is admirable about someone claiming they have “earned” the right to my financial support by breeding? Dogs can breed.
Yes, anyone can make mistakes. But people who just have kid after kid while never looking to improve themselves are not admirable.

I got pregnant at an early age as well. I had nothing and no one. But I encouraged myself and put myself through college and worked full time. I then got a job as a pharmacy technician and raised my three sons by myself. Amen.
Devils Eggvocate says
Precisely. You messed up, as we all do. But you did the very hard work required to lift yourself out of a life of having other people support you. It isn’t easy. No. Especially if you start out poor. It’s very hard. It’s WAY easier to sit on your behind, having kid after kid, making excuses, and living off the money of people who WORK for a living.
People? For god’s sake use protection if you can’t abstain. Get an education. Get a job. Even if you mess up, keep trying to get an education and a job. You will be better off. Your kids will be too. Isn’t that what you want? Or are you happy that I’m paying your rent, paying for the food and clothing that you think you “earned”? Do you like that working people are angry at you for sitting on your behind while we pay for your existence? Does that make you proud?

Triplets at 15 must have been difficult.

Pregnant at 16. Can’t find work. What’s the excuse for your other two kids that you can’t afford to feed? Maybe if you had stopped at one you’d’ve had the time to better yourself and get a real job.
I ask this seriously, since, as a taxpayer, I’m the one paying your rent, and paying for your food and clothes.

It never stops surprising me how so many people leave comments that amount to “500,000 people get into more trouble than 30,000 people did back in the day.” What an astonishing turn of events! Crime goes up as population goes up, who’da thunk it. Fact is that the crime RATE has gone down, but the simple minded never seem to grasp that.

I left about 10 years ago, it was getting worse by the day, when I moved there in the mid-eighties it wasn’t a bad place, made new friends and they were all great people but that all changed when so many gang bangers and people seeking section 8 housing showed up. I think to this day the Government leadership and the realtors made this happen. You have them to thank, the damned place is a war zone just like many parts of L.A., just so a few people can make money on selling homes and filling up rentals. You guys made that happen, nobody else.
LSF says
Not fair you wanna blame the government & realtors, However the realtors are just doing their job, selling houses. After all it’s the law not to discriminate against no one. And as far as the government their in the business of affordable housing. Besides I don’t think the gang banging will ever get out of control like it is in LA because I don’t see the Sheriff’s here in Lancaster allowing that to happen. But yeah it’s sad another life lost.
Devils Eggvocate says
You’re not wrong. The fault is on the Welfare workers who told the Section 8 population of L.A. about the Antelope Valley.
But the crimes are on the backs of the loser criminals that came up here along with that Section 8 population. Not everyone who uses Section 8 is bad or a criminal. Not at all. But there is a strong correlation between Section 8 single mothers and the gang members they are (illegally) allowing to live in their houses.
