PALMDALE – A reckless driving suspect led deputies on an approximately five-minute chase Monday afternoon in Palmdale, then fled the scene after crashing his vehicle, leaving two 6-year-old children inside.
It began about 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 25, when a deputy spotted a Nissan Altima being driven recklessly on East Palmdale Boulevard near Division Street, according to Lt. Steve De Jong of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Palmdale Station and a news photographer at the scene.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into another car stopped at a traffic light at 10th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard.
The driver fled and was not immediately apprehended, according to the sheriff’s department.
Another man remained inside the Nissan along with the two children and was arrested after marijuana and a loaded .45-caliber handgun was found in the vehicle, De Jong said.
As deputies investigated, a woman who said she was the children’s mother arrived and a check showed she had an outstanding arrest warrant and she was taken into custody, according to De Jong.
County Department of Children and Family Services personnel were called to the scene to determine if a responsible guardian could be found to take custody of the children, De Jong said.
Investigators were working to determine the identity of the driver, De Jong said.

the parents should be taken in to a free spay and neuter clinic.

Wow these kids lost already
Leland E Whitehouse says
The main concern here is for those kids. The adults have totally failed them. Hopefully they will grow up respecting the law.

Forget about the children. The worlds overpopulated anyways.

… all these police pursuits are spawned, by license plate scanner upload. Once they get a hit, law enforcement then ratchet up very slowly, following from a distance in surveillance mode, gently grooming and coaxing the perpetrator, into a full blown police pursuit. Once they’ve fully ratcheted up, they hit the media circus button, and on comes the television cameras. Were law enforcement to immediately hit the lights and sirens, 99% of these police pursuits would never have happened.

You do realize, that what said was….
The cop car camera spots a license plate and notifies the officer.
The officer assesses the situation (passengers/children/attitudes/traffic) while doing a preliminary suspect request.
The officer red lights the driver, which should pull over but does not, instead deciding to try and outrun the radio.
The officers pursue the now suspected ‘failure to yield’ driver and call it in which often causes further response from other nearby units.
More units arrive and if needed air support is called in.
All the while AV Scanners, the media outlet scanners, and others listen in starting up the commentary circus while speculating what is occurring and trying to track it.
All due to what?…. That is correct, some dummy not following the law.

Resa, I am wondering What is your relationship to the “cross country” runner?
Irena says
So no responsibility for the person who hit another person and ran? leaving the children in a car that was just in an accident? What of they were injured or at the very least afraid? But yes, let’s blame the police for the choices of others.

The mother, who had an outstanding arrest warrant, showed up to a place full of cops. It just gives you an idea of the type of low-IQ individuals we’re dealing with.

Like DCFS will do anything. Sounds like poor kids are doomed either way. So sad.
