Lancaster mayor says neckties should not be required for city employees

LANCASTER – Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris wants to forbid city employers from requiring workers to wear neckties.

At a council meeting this week, Parris asked the city attorney to look into whether such a policy is feasible, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The proposal is a matter of public health, according to Parris, who cited a new study published in the journal Neuroradiology that suggests wearing neckties may lower blood flow to the brain, potentially curbing creativity and analytical thinking.

The study also contends that restricting circulation by such an amount — 7.5 percent on average, according to the research — could have fatal implications for someone with high blood pressure.

“I spend a lot of hours every week on an elliptical or a bike just to increase blood flow to my brain, and it turns out every morning when I put on a tie I’m diminishing it,” he said.

Parris said he wants Lancaster employers to make wearing ties to work optional, at the very least. And he likened the tie requirement to demanding women wear heels to work, characterizing it as an issue of compelled gender presentation.

Parris, a well-known litigator, said he hasn’t stopped wearing ties just yet, however. That’s because most courts require attorneys to wear “business attire” in the courtroom — and for most judges that means wearing a tie.

Because the proposed policy would involve issuing infractions to offending employers, Parris has asked the city’s Criminal Justice Commission to look into whether such a rule is practical.

This isn’t the first time neckties have gotten a bad rap. A 2003 study published in the Journal of Opthalmology showed that wearing ties too tightly may increase risk for blindness and glaucoma.

  1. Come to think of it, plenty of Lancaster city officials and law enforcement should start loosening their neck ties along with their collars. They need more blood flowin to their head instead of air.

They are about to dump tens of thousands of dollars to remove Ledford and finally achieve their dream of total control of the A.V. They have three stooges ready and willing to help in Slimy Steve, Boy Wonder Bishop, and Clueless Carillo.

            They are in for a big surprise come November. Wrecks, Marv, DUI Drew, Climate Denier Randy and the rest of the boys and girls will find out that Palmdale voters are not as clueless and ignorant as Lancaster voters. They will refute the bigotry and East Palmdale will lead the way.

          On balance, I’ll go with Mayor Ledford until anything is proven.

          • @Rexworld, yes, a person is innocent until proven guilty. At least that’s the way it should be. That also includes Steve Hofbauer, Austin Bishop, and that Carrillo fellow. So if Mayor Ledford is innocent until proven guilty, then stop cherry picking what the law is, and apply it to all persons.

          • Alexis, the difference is that when it comes to CRIME there is one standard of guilt, but no one is accusing the Rexite minions who are selling out Palmdale of a CRIME, so that standard doesn’t apply.

            In politics, as opposed to courtrooms, there is more of a common sense standard. All you have to do is look at the support Hofbauer and Bishop give to any pro Lancaster initiative and how unconcerned they are about bad results for Palmdale if you want to see where their loyalties lie. And all you have to do is look at their financial statements to see why their loyalties lie where they do.

            There won’t be any “conviction in a court of law,” but for the sake of Palmdale’s future I hope there doesn’t need to be. I moved to Palmdale to get away from Wrecks and his corruption. I’d hate to have to leave the “South Lancaster” that Wrecks and Sellout Steve are hoping to create.

You truly believe you’re right when you’re not. You all have taken some truth here, and there, and now apply twisted logic to actually believe Palmdale is being taken over by evil elected politicians. We will see what the people say when it is time to elect politicians in Palmdale, and I hope no one accepts any of these ridiculous comments as gospel. I hope every voter does his/her homework and votes intelligently. Name calling should automatically disqualify any comment.

            DO that homework. I suggested that people should LOOK at Sellout Steve’s record, not that they should take my word for anything. I suggested that people should LOOK at his financial statements, not that they should take my word for anything. I suggested that people should ASK him for themselves, not take my word for anything…for a politician he is a surprisingly weak liar and anyone who asks him about his willingness to sell Palmdale down the river to his patron Wrecks will get an answer that they should be able to see right through.

            You say you want people to do their homework, and so do I. Politicians running for office have to submit financial records for public review as part of the process. We are the public, and should take the time to review them. If you haven’t, which you seem to be saying, you should.

          • I don’t comment often, but William, I have read your comments since you have been expressing your cruel nature since 2011. It is one thing to have a point of view, and it is another, to actually stalk other commenters and try your best to belittle them with abusive words. People that have actually tried to have a mature debate with you that devolved into disgusting name-calling. There was one commenter named Jud, that you took your hate out on for a solid three days, that bordered on x-rated abuse. Also, you take it upon yourself to take that particular persons screen name to apologize for their point of view to you. I know I have seen the transparent financial records of the politicians in Palmdale, and they don’t show what you and Tim are suggesting. If Alexis says she is informed, than it doesn’t matter what either one of you think. You both have a history of smearing a lot of people, because there are no consequences for your behavior. Ultimately, though there will be.

          • Tim, I have checked the financial records for the politicians in Palmdale, and the fact is, there is nothing amiss. So, you and William can keep smearing away with untruth’s (softer word for lying), and continue to say that Steve Hofbauer in particular, is being bribed by Rex Parris, because you can see that on his financial records. Straight up not true about his financial records. I know you will somehow dance around the facts and twist it to suit your agenda, which is smearing Hofbauer, Bishop, and Carrillo (who works closely with Hofbauer). I also want to say that there is nothing amiss with Bettencourt’s financial records.

            A huge block of funding for Sellout Steve’s campaigns always comes from employees of the Rex Parris law firm. Just like the rubber stamps on the Lancaster council, Sellout Steve is getting around the individual contribution limit through a process that is almost impossible to prove but everyone paying attention knows is going on; Wrecks employees get an “unrelated” bonus to reimburse them for political contributions Wrecks wants them to make.

            Then there’s Bishop, who is so corrupt that he just openly funnels AVTA funds into his business, with Sellout Steve supporting it all the way, and doesn’t even pretend about it.

Now, I will tell you one more time; yes I checked every politicians financial records, including James Ledford’s, and I was really surprised that you could be so misinformed. Every financial record checked out, with nothing amiss, except Aero Institute, and Complex Culture Change Consulting, flowered with pretty writing that went nowhere, and both were very shady outfits.           • Alexis, if there are “public records” that proved that they were “shady outfits”, surely you could share. What I discovered was that Aero Institute was/is a non profit educational organization. Spare me, and us, your talking points from the Rex/DUI Drew camp. What we and the investigation needs is evidence of a crime. After almost two years you would think they would have something by now.

            This is a chapter in Rex’s playbook. Throw out accusations and destroy the person’s character.

            He did it to Raymond Lee Jennings. It worked for a while, until the truth came out.

            He did it to Randy Floyd and Esmeralda Jorge. Their reputations were ruined. They lost their jobs. Floyd was even accused of child pornography. Not s single charge stuck.

            I have. I found out that her accusation of Aero Institute being a “shady operation” and that a lot of “fancy writing” was BS. Aero helped create one of the best schools in the entire Antelope Valley.,
            Rex and the Lancaster Political Machine have created business opportunities for Frank, Jim G., Scott E, and the boys. LEAPS and the BLVD have made millions for them. The tax payer get stuck with the bill and a street full of panhandlers.

          • Let me help you out here, Rexworld, since you can’t look up stuff on your own (it’s called public scrutiny). Aero paid Miller’s consulting company, then Miller’s consulting company hired James Ledford, and now it becomes more convoluted over the years. Transparency/asset declaration open to public scrutiny is not happening, and so on. It is not Alexis’ job to inform you about what’s going on with the Mayor, or any other politician in Palmdale! That is your responsibility to access records and see for yourself. The point of suspicion starts with the consulting business, and the Mayor not declaring his assets. Public scrutiny is a way for citizens to ensure leaders do not abuse their power for personal gain. It is an issue of ethics and integrity. Stay focused on your city, not Lancaster! That’s where the buffoonery comes in.

          • Thank you Palmdale voter for your analysis of the situation. If there is anything illegal about that arrangement then there will be penalties to pay. Until then, this is America an everyone, even Rex’s enemies, are innocent until proven guilty.

            I am struggling to comprehend how it can be a crime to have a job. So what that Aero paid Miller and Miller hired Ledford. That is like saying my employer pays me and I hired a painter to paint my house.

            You really need to put down the Rex/DUI Drew play book and use your head. Obviously the Lancaster Political Machine is jealous of how Ledford took Palmdale to the forefront in the Antelope Valley. They are now trying to get their pawns in so they can get control. Not hard to see. Educated voters see through the shenanigans. That is why we who live in Palmdale have to pay attention to Lancaster as much as our city. The infiltration has begun. It will be stopped in November because as you say it is an issue of ethics and integrity.

  4. … our SOW requirements are so evolved, so overspecialized from what the workplace one was during the ’20s ’30s, when suits, ties, cuff links and millinery were compulsory. Hopelessly convoluted, matrix’d across silos, management no longer hierarchical, we no longer have one supervisor, and the deliverables we’re responsible for we no longer merit final authority. I wished we could go back to the early 20th century, where we could walk to work without our throats slit by punks and gangbangers, or run over like dogs and left for dead by lawless illegal immigrants. Sigalerts, panic stopping the vehicle a minimum 6 times on an 80 mile one-way daily commute, chained to a cramped workstation with zero privacy, keying into a database or spreadsheet all the live long day, expectation of formal attire would be considered abusive. The only ones wearing diner attire to work are pimps, crooks, overpaid athletes, and undertakers (fyi: attorneys would fall into crooks category). Drive to work in anything nice, your colleagues door ding you asunder. Even dressed business casual, 21st century work-life sucks –

Singing birds, LEAPS, black road paint, numerous character attacks on people, climate paranoia, destruction of the West Valley by overbuilding Solar Farms, claiming the BLVD is better than Disneyland, telling the homeless to go home, etc.

While he’s flying around in his fossil fuel powered plane, living in two huge fossil fuel powered mansions, and destroying the west Antelope Valley’s ecosystem with solar farms that are better suited on rooftops or away from people and animals, he’s trying to scare people. He likens climate change to a meteor hitting the earth.

          More sensible and sober climate change proponents such as President Obama and Chancellor Merkel take a measured approach over time to do what can be done to combat climate change. Other thinkers are looking for ways to deal with the reality of climate change, because it IS happening.

          People like Wrecks are opportunists looking to make a buck. He reeks of a televangelist who soaks the innocent of their hard earned dollars for perceived salvation.
          Wrecks is the last person anyone should listen to about climate change, neckties, bird sounds, economics, morality, etc.

        • I never said climate change wasn’t true. I said Wrecks had climate paranoia. Lots of scientists and people in general are aware of climate change. The climate’s been changing for tens of thousands of years and we can see it even now.

          Climate paranoia is trying to scare people with doomsday predictions and hype. That sort of thing actually hurts positive efforts to make a difference.

          But what do you expect from Wrecks? He is destroying our west valley with his solar farms that should be on the tops of buildings or at least not next to schools, animals or homes. Valley Fever is real.

          People like President Obama and Chancellor Merkel called for measured, common sense, long term goals in the climate arena. Wrecks just tries to scare people and make a buck.

    • He can distinguish between a potential law suit where he can make easy money and one that’s not worth the effort.

      So far as cognitive science goes, he shows himself to be a fool who is easily influenced.

      • That doesn’t really take much brain power. Law suits generally mean a settlement. The only skill Wrecks really has is knowing how much he can pour into “expenses” so that when the settlement is reached the client has to use their share to “reimburse” him.

        I met one of his better known clients. They had a drop dead lock claim against their city and the city was ready to hand over a hundred thousand to settle it, no muss no fuss. After a five year fight Wrecks got them a million dollar settlement. They got six-seventy and a bill from Wrecks for costs of various “expert consultants” for almost six-fifty, so they netted about twenty-five thousand. Unsurprisingly, most of his “expert consultants” are political contacts as well.

    Citations to businesses who require ties??!! He’s simply looking for another client base. I can see the headline now…..

    _______(insert name of business) sued for 14.3 million dollars for dress code violation.”
