The death occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, on Lancaster Boulevard near Elm Street, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The man was standing in the street on Lancaster Boulevard talking to some people inside a black sedan parked on the south curb when a full-sized white pickup truck going eastbound on Lancaster Boulevard at speeds in excess of the posted 15 miles-per-hour speed limit struck the victim, according to the news release.
The motorist inside the truck stopped and then sped away toward Sierra Highway, sheriff’s officials said.
“Witnesses reported the black sedan fled the scene,” the news release states. “Witnesses at the scene were not able to get a license plate for the truck.”
Paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Anyone with information regarding the white pickup truck or the whereabouts of the occupants inside the black sedan is encouraged to contact the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.
UPDATE: The victim was identified as Rodney Tyrone Richard, according to a CBS Los Angeles report. Loved ones have established an online fund to help pay for his funeral expenses. To donate, visit: https://www.gofundme.com/5x2s5d4.

I see tons of comments shouting racist with nothing to compel them to do so. Throwing around strong words like that help keep that idea alive. I feel as though if you don’t have proof of racism, don’t say it. Makes me sad to see hate throughout all of the comments.
Tim Scott says
Sure John. The comments about “thinning out the herd” weren’t made by racists, they were just concerned citizens that think there are too many people named Rodney in the world.
Mars says
RIP..Also there is a history of issues on The Blvd and Does everyone realize the Sherrifs Station is down the block?? Also check the phone recordings cause I believe calls were made to police for behavior..A tragic incident that could have been prevented..A law needs to be made to make buisnesses stop serving alcohol when a patron gets drunk also for them to make arrangements for the person to get home safely…
Jen says
There is some disgusting racist sick [removed] in the Av. How much you want to bet the guy driving the white truck was a drunk white racist. If people are on the Blvd at the bars there should be decent video surveillance. He was a young man in his 20s at a bar that is something normal that people that age do. That is not a [removed] excuse to run any someone over! And that [removed] did not look like a [removed] accident it looked intentional. I don’t believe that no one was able to identify this car either!
Ron says
Don’t cops patrol that area?
Back the Badge says
They patrol the entire town. Kinda of a stupid question. That doesnt mean they can be everywhere at all times. And where are you gonna go with this question? Surely you werent gonna blame the cops for it? Right?
Your Mama says
What do you mean by “dark”? RACIST!
CountryBumpkin says
Soooo, just to clarify stuff up, we left the country bar at 145am… hung out right in front of the hooka lounge chatting with friends, saw the super drunk victim walking around out front being belligerent towards anyone that gave him attention including cars that were driving on the BLVD. Many instances he wouldnt move and made them go around him like he owned the street or starting stuff with everyone. The victim was Super drunk.. Just want everyone to know that and he was starting trouble with anyone that drove by and wouldnt yield to him on the street. Like I told the deputies, I didnt see the exact moment when he was hit but judging by his actions prior to the tragic event I can tell you that Im sure he jumped in the way of traffic to start trouble with the driver of the truck to force the truck to yield to him and the truck didnt therefore he was struck..
Im not defending the driver of the truck but he’s def not guilty for murder but instead guilty of involuntary manslaughter. I pray for both parties.
Sad case says
Just to clarify, you are a idiot, and I hope when you or one of your family members die from a tragedy, someone like a miserable individual says something as thoughtless as you have.. Just pathetic, I don’t care how he was behaving, under the influence, where he wasn’t thinking clearly, if the speeding reckless car was actually doing the speed limit of 15mph, maybe the young man would be alive. Maybe if he would have stopped, immediately dialed 911 and tried to render some type of aid. He wouldn’t have died.. Or maybe the driver was intoxicated himself, and did not care for others as you have appeared to deem this young man..he murdered him, it wasn’t involuntary, because this could have been avoided. If he was doing the speed limit, not only could he have stopped in enough time. The Injuries would have not been so severe. Let’s leave it to the judge DA, and lawyers, which I’m sure you are not one of.. So what if this had been a child that slipped away from their parents hand.. And a car was driving that reckless would it have been murder then? Or still involuntary manslaughter, if it were a child, and the car continued to drive off, how would you look at this? How does defaming the victim, justifies the situation? No, it’s not prayers for both sides, it’s prayer for that innocent young man and his family, and shame on you, the driver and anyone else who is thinking like you, and I wouldn’t even call it thinking.. But that’s all, just wanted to clear things up as you attempted to do and your sorry pathetic paragraph.. Please keep the same energy when it happens to you or a loves one.. When you hear your loved one was killed by someone else’s careless actions, and because they were intoxicated before, they let them go, I just really hope you be as understanding.
Self defense says
David G. You know I was brutally raped at work… Was driven to the the hospital had a rape kit done… Sheriffs removed me from hospital took me to a f a ke forensic lab… Where my manager wmom was with me witnessed theses. Sherriffs brutall y called me horrid names told me to drop it or else… Jeffrey Hallert was my attacker…. From San Jose Ca. My point… You cant judge ones behavior if they are reacting to a confrontation. Clearly in the video you can see the deceased had had a confrontation with the driver of the truck prior to being hit. His body language shows aggression toward the driver of the vehicle. The driver of vehicle may have been assaulted by this group and was just trying to escape his or her attackers…. The man hit was clearly threatening the driver and the person be h ind the wheel must of had extreme fear i would not pull over if i saw t his guy trying to pick a fight. The video tells the story. They wanted this truck to p u ll over from fear and then t he group of them would have killed him. Self defense is what i see in the video.

You have a chip on your shoulder…..I don’t know Tyrone but I will bet the farm he was no angel. Life has a way of giving us what we get. Bad stuff sometimes happens to good people.
Children get crucified by ISIS and people get set on fire. Lots of folks have really awful stuff happen….happens millions of times a day. I will go back to what I originally said..nothing good happens after midnight on the street.
Senssless says
All the comments here, and looks like people have a Hard time understanding that no matter if this dude was a gangster, punk, trouble maker, etc It Still Gives No Right To The Pickup Driver To Purposely Run Him Down Like A Dog…. I hope they find them and prove they were under the influence so it will be a Murder Charge… This State needs to make leaving the scene of an accident with injuries or a death, a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. No plea deals. Maybe then will we see a reduction in these senseless crimes. It’s only an accident, until you flee the scene.
Always stick up for the victim doing stupid things leading to their death says
Nope. If the driver had been drinking a prosecutor would blame the whole thing on the driver and seek ten years. For all we know, the man dancing around in the street confronting cars may have just been run over due to his stupid actions and not “run down like a dog”. He probably also scared and startled the driver who may have thought he was under attack. Try having the Public Defender explain all that to the court. The witnesses will all dry up and blow away in the wind and the driver having drank before getting behind the wheel would be all that mattered. The report says the driver DID stop. Maybe he assessed the scene… plenty of people on hand to help the guy and/or the guy was clearly dead. And where’s there a 15 mph zone anywhere in Adelanto? Was school in session at 2 am? Even then its 25mph. The driver made a logical, if not legal, choice here. If he’s caught he may face greater penalties or he may not if they can’t prove he was drinking.
john jon says
Adelanto? It’s Lancaster. The BLVD has a posted speed limit of 15MPH all the time because it has back out parking into the flow of traffic. It’s been that way for 8 years now.
The Lancaster sheriff office is at the end of the BLVD and Sierra Hwy, 1500 feet away from the scene of the incident. If the driver of the vehicle was concerned for his safety then he could have driven to the station and got help.
Concerned says
The speed limit on the blvd is 15 stupid
David G says
Live by the sword and die by the sword…that is a fact of life.
smarter then this guy says
So if the driver hits him and was in fear for his life so he kept going. That should get you 15 years just like that? Give me a break.
Jus sayin' says
Am I the only one, who (when the video was shown on the news) noticed this man jump out in front of the moving vehicle that ultimately took his life!?
Choices, people. CONSEQUENCES!!
Hopp says
I thought the exactt same. I’m sure the headlights were visible it was strange he jumped into the road dnd then stayed there
David G says
You are exactly right
JPB says
The BLVD is a lost cause. When your top priority is lining the pockets of your contributors, the focus gets muddied. How else can you explain spending millions of dollars to try to create a downtown with restaurants and shopping when you put them next to all your social services in buildings owned by those same people? What decent downtown has more tattoo parlors than places to get a drink? The BLVD is owned by panhandlers, troublemakers, hookers, and everything else that makes it the failure that it is.
We can start by dumping the Fern St. Mafia braintrust. Then let’s see if we can get our Lancaster Boulevard back.
Mandy P. says
A young man died, and your self-centered comment is about, getting your Lancaster Boulevard back. Give a rest!
Conservative Latino says
I actually drove past there an hour before said incident occurred, and let me tell you that the people who were loitering at 1:00am in the morning at Lancaster BLVD were definitely looking for trouble, thank God I’m a pretty big dude and a former marine, so nothing would have happenend, but Wow, what’s going on to the BLVD, i thought that this area was suppose to be the tourist attraction of the AV. SMH LASD.
AV Illegal says
Your right, it is all LASD to blame. If they stopped the poor young black man and asked why he was there, or anyone else of color (I thought white was a color?) they would be deemed racist and accused of profiling. Society is aiming to make the law enforcement totally reactive, not pro-active. If many had their way law enforcement would just stay in the station until something happened……just like the fire department.
I see your ego is almost as broad as your shoulders. I don’t care how big of a dude you are, bullets still go through and knives still cut. Don’t let all that former Marine stuff go to your head. Remember, Marine is a title. If you were really a former Marine, you would remember that and use your capitals. Semper Fi
Your Mama says
A tourist attraction? Visit the US, Come to Sunny California… see Disneyland, Malibu beaches… then drive two hours north to Lancaster Blvd. in Lancaster to catch the colorful nightlife at 2 am.
Oh no! Did I just say colorful? My bad.
Jordan Baker says
Yeah he looked like an outstanding citizen on his FB page. Handgun, drugs, gang hand signs etc …no surprise his life ended like that.

My mother told me nothing good happens after midnight. What was Cuzz doing on the street at 2AM? Probably up to no good. Live by the sword and die by the sword….

There were a lot of people outside the hookah lounge had just closed the country bar just closed and you think because it was 2 you have a right to run over anyone that’s out ? Hmmm what do you drive

David G says
I have your taco hanging you silly buffoon.
Ronald Henderson says
So everything your mommy tells you is true? This young man was probably with friends at the hookah lounge. Is 2 am really that odd for a guy his age to be out with friends? You mommy must have taught you good, and you’ve probably never been out and had a good time with friends when you were his age. Have some respect for the dead.
David G says
This is nothing more than a fart in a tornado…like really..who cares? Consider it thinning out the herd

That herd needs quite a bit of thinning through out the country.

Both of you on that death spiral of negativity, will be the next ones to be thinned out.
