PALMDALE – A man was taken into custody after he led California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit along the Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest highways from Palmdale to the San Gabriel Valley, authorities said.
Officers attempted to pull over the driver of a gray Toyota Prius near Angeles Forest and Sierra Highways for erratic driving about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, but the driver fled the scene, according to Officer Patrick Kimball with the California Highway Patrol.
The pursuit proceeded southbound on the Angeles Forest Highway, then on Angeles Crest Highway toward the La Canada Flintridge area, at speed of 50 to 60 mph, Kimball said.
NBC4 reported the driver turned around and proceeded northbound and the CHP deployed a spike strip, but he continued to flee from officers at slow speeds. The car was running on its rims and the Los Angles County Fire Department sent a helicopter to follow the chase due to concerns sparks from the vehicle’s rims could start a brush fire, NBC4 said.
The suspect pulled over about 11:30 p.m. near Buckhorn Campground, according to NBC4.
The driver was arrested and a second person was detained at the scene, Kimball said.
