LANCASTER – A man was stabbed multiple times Tuesday after confronting another man who was looking through his backpack outside a Lancaster supermarket, authorities said.
The stabbing occurred about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, outside the Stater Bros. supermarket at 1850 East Avenue J, said Sgt. Mike Politano of the sheriff’s Lancaster Station.
“The victim saw the suspect rifling through his backpack and confronted him,” Politano said.
The victim confronted the suspect and was stabbed in the head, neck, left forearm and bicep.
The suspect fled the scene, Politano said.
The victim was taken to a hospital where his vital signs were stable.

Again you people are putting [removed] in the game. Re-read the article again- he left his backpack outside and when he came outside, he saw someone rifling through his backpack and when confronted caused the altercation. Personally I do carry a knife because there are so many haters running amuck.

Looks like the suspect in the picture is missing his left pinky. He has four fingers instead of five. Not that it makes any difference, it might only make it easier to ID him.
Imtay Otscay says
It makes a big difference. Now when I see him I can say: “My name is Inigo Montoya. You almost killed my father. Prepare to die.” :)

If you have a backpack, it should stay in the front of the store were it is easily watched by Management or other workers. If you let a older Man who looks like he is a non stealing person wear the backpack and then you tell another he has to take it off because he is homeless or he looks like a thief, then that is profiling and that is not fair. If your going to do it, then do it to everyone to eliminate problems or Lawsuits which our Country is Greedy for.
I hope the Man that was stabbed will recover and hope they find this dangerous homeless Man and lock him up behind Bars.

How many times have you seen your average male carrying a backpack in a store? Typically you dont and thats cuz you dont need it inside a store. Their used mainly to steal stuff. Homeless and theives usually carry one. Both more then likely have bad intentions. And dont even pretend like a lot of homeless people dont steal. Miss me with that crap

“How many times have you seen your average male carrying a backpack in a store?”
Every day long about the time school lets out. Why do you ask?
Zerk says
Homeless and thieves? But not students, no. You do know store clerks make students leave their backpacks by the door or outside or else’s they’re not allowed in right, you do know that? You’re abysmal. Friggin idiot.
Yoyre a child. says
So a college student can’t stop by the store on their way home? You sound ignorant, child.
Laughing says
I would like to point out that when I ride a bicycle I wear a backpack. Then when I enter a store the pack stays on my back. At the register I take the pack off, open it up, place my purchased items in, zip it up and then leave the store.

We have at least 6 colleges and a multitude of schools. Yes, I see men with backpacks all the time. I have also seen purseless and bagless people steal hundreds of dollars of merchandise. Theft is unfortunately a part of doing business, that is what insurance is for. There are many employed thieves in retail, so why would anyone feel comfortable leaving their bag with an employee? Profiling the victim as either a customer or after becoming a victim as well as profiling the perpetrator as a homeless person and criminal only shows the lack of character of those choosing to do so. I hope the perpetrator is caught and the victim heals from his wounds…..including the psychological ones as a result of this tragedy. Those of us who have had the unfortunate experience of being homeless while keeping their integrity intact take offense to those ignorant comments. My homelessness had nothing to do with drugs, alcohol, mental illness, laziness, and the like. I worked hard to come out of poverty and am a well educated, middle class earning, citizen with a clean criminal record. I have had amazing conversations with people who have been down and out and unfortunately homeless, maybe you should meet and speak with someone who is currently or has been homeless in the past. Count. Your. Blessings. …..instead of Discounting the valuable lives of other human beings. Tomorrow is guaranteed to no one.

Now you see. If the victim had a gun, would have been a fair fight. Lol. And the asshole with the knife would have been the one going to the hospital or the grave. That my feeling on it.. CCW Should be allowed.
Tim Scott says
LOL…because if the guy popped up swinging with a knife in hand he was gonna quick draw like Wyatt Earp and shoot them dead, right hero? The biggest danger gun nuts present is the danger that your heroic but gun dependent fantasies create.
Laughing says
Concealed is not smart. Visible is.
Concealed is what criminals like. Visible makes everyone polite real quick.
Knife has been proven to beat gun in close distance most of the time, especially if the knife was the attacker.
Gun is still great equalizer in the right hands with a bit of distance/luck.
Imtay Otscay says
The story says BACKPACK not knapsack so its a safe bet the owner of the backpack was homeless. So we should arm homeless people with a gun?
Tim Scott says
Homeless people have the backpack market cornered? That will be news to all the organizations that do backpack give aways for back to school…
Alexis says
Backpack: A bag with shoulder straps that allow it to be carried on one’s back. Synonym: Knapsack, rucksack, school bag, book bag. They are both the same with a little difference in shape, sometimes. There, now that’s settled. Has NOTHING to do with whether a person is homeless.
Imtay Otscay says
We now know the suspect was most likely homeless and I would bet the victim was as well, college students don’t leave their knapsacks sitting outside a supermarket, especially in that neighborhood. A thief would normally just take the whole bag and ruffle through it somewhere else and dump it, unless it was large and heavy like a camping backpack, or locked to something. Say what you may, but I am betting both were homeless. Might have even known each other. A smart thief would hang around the library and see which homeless have laptops, tablets, ipods etc…and make a note of what they are carrying their gear in.
move on says
Knapsacks/backpacks aren’t exclusively for the homeless. It just so happens that the suspect was homeless, and maybe the victim was homeless. You’re “I told you so attitude,” really doesn’t matter when you look at the bigger picture. You’re expending way too much energy on this article, attempting to make sure everyone knows you’re right, so you can continue with your smug attitude, right? Move on.
Imtay Otscay says
19 posts on this topic – of which 4 (including this) are mine. Homelessness is just something I happen to have experience in and I am just chatting about the article. I generally do “move on” from a topic once people’s feelings get hurt or insults start to get slung. One more thing- its very hard to tell what someone’s “attitude” is from reading text. I could have this conversation in my living room with a few friends and use the exact same words and nobody would think I had a huge ego, was a smart a$$ or had a bad attitude. But I do think “moving on” is great advice, for anyone who cant have a friendly chat without getting angry and letting it get personal.
Alexis says
Oh please, let us beat this dead horse even more!
Alexis says
here’s my scenario: these two people were homeless billionaires (think Howard Hughes), and they decided to go to the store together. Now these two homeless billionaires are also brothers, so one brother (victim) left his backpack with his brother (suspect), and when he came out of the store, he saw his brother rifling through his backpack again. So now love becomes hate, and brother (suspect) stabs brother (victim). Hopefully the brother (victim) will recover, and both brothers can go back to loving each other. That is after brother (suspect) gets released from prison for attempted murder.
Alexis says
Kiki…no one asked me, I volunteered. I looked it up in the dictionary because I didn’t know.

From attempted theft to assault with weapon inflicting bodily harm
Wise choice
Imtay Otscay says
Prolly left pack outside because many stores won’t let you carry one through the store. Ticks me off because a woman can carry a huge purse big enough to stash Tyrion Lannister in it, but if a man has a knapsack on his back, he is treated like a thief. And I love the article’s use of the word “confronted”, as if the victim said “excuse me sir, why are you going through my belongings?” when what most likely happened is, the suspect flipped open a knife to prevent the butt-kicking he was about to receive.
