PALMDALE – Two women in their 60s were killed Saturday when their SUV crashed into a truck parked in a construction zone on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Palmdale, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, on the northbound Antelope Valley Freeway north of Palmdale Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer T. Shields said.
Rosario B. Agmata, 61, of Lancaster and Erlinda B. Fernandez, 68, of the Philippines were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
Agmata was driving a 2018 Toyota Highlander at a high rate of speed to the left of a row of traffic cones in place due to roadway construction, Shields said. “For an unknown reason,” the SUV turned to the right, entered the construction zone and crashed into a truck parked on the right shoulder, Shields said.
The truck was equipped with an attenuator to lessen crash injuries, but it was not clear if the SUV crashed into the attenuator or the truck itself.
“Alcohol or drugs is not suspected to be a factor in this collision,” Shields said. Lanes 2 and 3 of the northbound freeway were closed during the on scene investigation.

The CHP told us that they found a couple of tickets from San Manuel being cashed it for a large amount around 3 am. I am thinking the same thing about them being scared and wanting to get away or probably they Wer followed home knowing that they have won money. They would not confirm with us how much the winnings are!
just the facts says
Then they wouldn’t have stepped outside to exchange information, and then get back in and speed off going 90 mph. Thank God no one else was killed.
Family says
If you look at the picture of the car there is literally no damage to the rear of the car. So whoever hit them initially didnt do much from what i can see. Rosario would never flee a accident that much we do know. She also is diabetic and does not drink
.was she frieghtened? Did the other driver demenstrate road rage.. were they about to get robbed by the driver of blue honda? Although the driver of the blue honda would have had to follow for two hour. Is it also possible after Rosario was trying to get away she tried to call the police with her cell phone and accidentally ran into the back of the caltrans truck parked in the shoulder? We found pieces of the car 100yards along the side of freeway. They did hit at a rather high speed. Things do not add up. And im sure yhe chp is doing a full investigation

I think you are the right track, she got scared, we will never know the answer, Blue Honda might not tell the truth and who knows what they said or what they might have done in front of them, Prayers are with the family
Too many rumors says
So many things being said but only thing known for sure is that the women were speeding and slammed into the construction site. Everything else is just speculation. RIP
just the facts says
A minor accident, and both parties were about to exchange information, when the two women in the Toyota Highlander sped off. Highway patrol saying car must have been going 90 mph. Thank God no one else was killed, at that speed.
Concernedperson says
Maybe the Toyota Highlander was in the first accident and someone purposely rear ended them, to rob or rape or doing something else, we will never know, . The person or persons from the other vehicle approached her and she got scared and was trying to get away as fast as possible. They could have shown a gun, being cursing looked scaring to her anything, The bottom line we will never know. I’m so sorry for you loss.

There was a minor collision with another car, they pulled over to exchange info, in the middle of exchanging she took off at a high speed and crashed half a mile away. Death sucks but I have absolutely no pity for this shady woman.
The AV Times does a horrible job with their reporting. Stupid.
Just me says
The “unknown reason” was being rear ended by a blue Honda! It has already been documented. Get the facts before posting the story. RIP
Tim Scott says
So you are saying that they got “pit maneuvered” by a blue Honda. This got “documented” where exactly?
There is very little doubt that this “City News Service” bylined story is a direct lift from the CHP Public spokesman’s release, since that’s standard procedure for the AVTimes (and most other small “news sites”). Now, the CHP may well have issued an update, and the AVTImes is not world reknowned for being johnny on the spot about things like that. But is that where you are saying this has “been documented?”
Tim Scott says
Okay, so that wasn’t it. They got rear ended, stopped to exchange info, then sped off at 90 mph? What’s that about?
But this story in the AVTimes seems accurate enough. Whatever the unknown reason is, I doubt that it is “got rear ended a while ago half a mile back.”

Do you ever go on face book look up Av news crew you’ll find the right story
NunYa says
According the report log of the original accident it was a hit and run with no injuries and the silver SUV was the one that left the scene of the accident. The problem with this article is that it makes it sound as if they were just driving along and accidentally drove on the wrong side of the cones. It fails to make any mention of the fact that they were just involved in another accident and they took off.
KayTee says
I’m just a journalism student at a community college so what do I know… But what does the silver SUV leaving the scene of a prior accident have to do with it crashing into a construction site some moments later? In fact, we don’t know why the SUV was speeding away so why jump to conclusions that the driver was trying to flee the scene. The passenger could have been having a medical emergency for all we know. To conflate the two separate collisions would be irresponsible and that is why I think it is rightfully left out of the story.
Alexis says
@NunYa…Your comment makes more sense than the other ones.
Alexis says
KayTee… Vehicle accident report log for September 29, 14 freeway, Palmdale ca. The Highlander was involved in a prior accident, and then sped off.
Tim Scott says
If your red haze rave reflex hadn’t kicked in and made you look stupid you’d have noticed that I already did that research, but thanks for caring so much Alexis.
PS…you might want to look up flippant, because you don’t seem to know what it means.
Alexis says
Tim…Here is an answer to your flippant (sarcastic) remark. Vehicle accident report log for September 29 on the 14 freeway, Palmdale. You just can’t help being a donkey. Highlander was involved in a prior accident and sped off, and the rest is in the article.
