PALMDALE – The motorist killed in a head-on crash in Palmdale Sunday night has been identified as 40-year-old Sergio Valencia of Palmdale, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, on 50th Street East north of Avenue Q, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, Valencia was driving a 1997 Honda Civic south on 50th Street East when “for an unknown reason” his car went over the double yellow lines and crashed head-on with a 2016 Honda Fit that was northbound.
The driver and passenger in the Honda Fit were taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate to major injuries, the CHP reported.
Valencia was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Alcohol and drugs (are) not suspected to be a factor in this collision,” the CHP said.
Following the crash, 50th Street East was closed in the area until about 3:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, while an investigation was conducted, the CHP reported.

Condolences to all involved however the Sheriff’s department needs to have a more visible presence on roads where these things frequently happen. The only time I see a Sheriff is when they’re on break at a Fast Food restaurant. Where do they go to take their Siestas?

Prayers and much love to everyone involved and those who are left behind. We are more alike than we are different. We have families and friends, along with a great many responsibilities. There are so many stresses and distractions for us all. Life altering mistakes and accidents are everywhere. We too have experienced it. Breathe and take a moment. We never do know just when our moment will come. Love first. Judge not. Peace be with everyone❤️

We don’t know when our time is up. It’s not fair to judge people and speculate what happened. It was an accident. Condolences to the Valencia family and healing prayers for the couple injured. Love today like you have no tomorrow.

Thank you! I wish more sensible adults would post as you have. God is the final judge of all of us. I’m ashamed to live in such a community where people believe they have the right to judge people’s terrible mistakes. God sees all SIN as the same – no matter what. People need to do more bible reading, and more reflection before they become so quick to want to judge others for their wrong doings. Condolences to the family. If we want to see consequences for bad behaviors of others we have to stop judging and allow God to do his work. He’s omnipresent – never forget that. We will never be able to wrap our small human brains around the Overwhelming Size of God’s Grace and his Greatness. We must be faithful and know that His work always gets done in His time, not ours. When we judge others we need to brace ourselves and be prepared to be judged as well. Again, Condolences to all families involved. I agree Judiellen.

My condolences to the couple that were seriously injured through no fault of their own. It has really upended their lives and they are struggling to put things back together. The fellow is still in the hospital receiving surgeries while the young lady is recuperating from a broken rib and clavicle. Of course, I’m sorry for all involved but this really took a toll on this innocent couple who were simply driving to work that evening.

An innocent man lost his life, he was simply driving home as well. Many people were affected by this, anything can happen at any time to anyone. This loss has taken the biggest toll on the family affected!
Tm says
Yes he was but also was on wrong side of the road… RIP

This was somebody’s Son, He was a Father, a Brother, And he had many friends! I’m just curious where you got the information that he was distracted on his phone? Or are you just being a judgmental Witch???? Please leave the judgmental opinions to your self. There are many people grieving his death. Thanks!!!!

Thank you Christina! #RIPSERG

This is a serious statement. Two lives were flipped upside down and continue to suffer because of it. Probably will the rest of their lives. There is a way to confirm or deny it though, the phone records from that night. It’s not right to rule anything out without evidence. Also no need to call names here. Literally just a statement.
Let’s not forget the many people suffering on the other side of the accident as well. It’s a sad situation for ALL parties involved.
Jams says
Clearly none of us were there, shame on you!! You shouldn’t speculate what led to this tragic accident and loss of a amazing person
Ron says
What’s going ON? Are these people falling a sleep at the wheel or playing with the radio or what?
Laughing says
Sleepy, handling smart dash, handling phone, eating with both hands, smoking/vaping, drinking, impaired with meds, just crappy drivers, and medical issues.

This is where a 14 mile straight road suddenly curves to the right, so crossing into head on lanes at the bend is easy if driver is distracted. Despite aggressive signage it is still a common spot for head on collisions. Condolences for the families.
Tim Scott says
Article says the wreck was “north of Ave Q” and the curve is south of Ave Q.

Random Stranger…Thank you for the information.

14 miles interrupted by stop signs about every two miles.
