  1. Trump is throwing Rudy under the bus. Then, Rudy gets back in the bus and throws Trump under the bus.

    This just gets better and better. And, yet, it was all predictable a couple years ago.

  2. Another day, another step in the right direction to rid ourselves of Communist Chinese infiltration.

    The United States is blacklisting a group of Chinese tech companies that develop facial recognition and other artificial intelligence technology that the U.S. says is being used to repress China’s Muslim minority groups.

    A move Monday by the U.S. Commerce Department puts the companies on a so-called Entity List for acting contrary to American foreign policy interests.

    The blacklist effectively bars U.S. firms from selling technology to the Chinese companies without government approval.

    With Communist Chinese espionage a threat to national security, you have to wonder what kind of person would invited the Communist Chinese into the Antelope Valley so they could easily set up espionage on our nation’s most sensitive defense programs.

    It is the same kind of person who suggests that people break the law and carry concealed weapons to shoot homeless if they rob you, and who would use $10 million dollars in taxpayer money to fun a spy plane owned by his political contributor.

  3. Newsflash… While discussing the recent shootings in Lancaster where homeless people were shot by an alleged gang member, Wrecks reflected on his recent trip. ‘I learned a lot in Africa. The predators will go to where the prey are plentiful.’

    The homeless are not animals, Wrecks. They are human beings. Some are addicts. Some are poor. Some have made poor choices. You can relate, can’t you?

    Do you have any empathy at all in that dark, dark soul?

  4. Looks like the FBI is warning universities about Chinese espionage. This after the recent warning that Chinese tech giant Huawei was a security threat to the US and its allies.

    A quote from today’s Associated Press article by Eric Tucker:
    “Existentially, we look at China as our greatest threat from an intelligence perspective, and they succeeded significantly in the last decade from stealing our best and brightest technology,” said William Evanina, the U.S. government’s chief counterintelligence official.

    The Antelope Valley is no place for any affiliation with the Communist Chinese government. We have the nation’s most sensitive and secret defense programs being built and tested here, and the Communist Chinese would like nothing more than to set up espionage shop right here in the AV. Why anyone would risk national security for a campaign donation is beyond me.

    I was away on holiday since Friday. I thought Trumpist#1 was taking over for me as I’ve been training him in how it’s done.

    But, who knows. Comments I posted Thursday aren’t up yet. Bring back the Pnny Express. It was faster.

            Did you also vote for Steve Hofbauer and, if so, what had you do that given the long list of things that Mayor Ledford has accomplished for Palmdale over 26 years, through recessions and intense and ugly opposition from Rex Parris & Co.?

            If you did vote for Hofbauer, what had you do that? Realize that your reply might be received with some skepticism. I’m not confident that you are simply a concerned citizen expressing your opinions here as I am. It has been suggested by others and myself that “Emma” might be Hofbauer “hisself” or one of his or Rex’s minions whose username I don’t recall commenting here until others and I started criticizing Hofbauer.

            Anyway, I guess you’ll keep replying to my comments as before and that’s fine. We’ll keep the discussion of Hofbauer and his questionable relationship with Rex Parris alive till the next election. I know I will.

            And, if Hofbauer and other Rex plants on the Palmdale City Council do anything that benefits Lancaster at Palmdale’s expense or against staff recommendations as they did with the CCA, I will be here reporting that loudly and clearly.

            That has always been my main concern that Rex is interfering with Palmdale’s governance and independence by supporting a mayor and council members that will do his bidding while you and other Palmdale citizens are giving Hofbauer a “chance”. We’ll see.

            If you have a problem with my above concerns, that says more about you than me.

          • Emma. Can you not read? You have repeatedly misstated what I wrote. By telling us to give Hofbauer a “chance” since he’s our mayor you are indirectly supporting and are fine with his dirty campaign tactics against Mayor Ledford. You haven’t criticized Hofbauer for that have you? It’s called “enabling” just like what Trump supporters do.

            I asked if you voted for Hofbauer and if so…… You wrote that I said you voted for him.

            When it comes to growing up, get yourself an education in English while you’re at it. After telling me to “grow up” don’t give that William’s comments are nasty or name calling nonsense.

            Now, if Hofbauer does do something that is obviously shown to be fealty to Rex Parris and not supposition, can we count on you to come here and call him on it as you so readily do with me?

            Are you not aware that Hofbauer was supported by Parris in the last election? I guess that doesn’t concern you but it does me and it does concern me that it doesn’t concern you if so.

            Now, read my comment carefully as you tend to make up stuff in your replies. By now I don’t trust you much.

        Then, she says she supported Mayor Ledford personally and didn’t brag publicly about it like me while bragging publicly about supporting Mayor Ledford personally. Project much. She though she one-upped there but I have supported him publicly, personally and have contributed to his campaigns and his legal fund.

        But, keep it up Emma. I want to keep the corrupt Hofbauer discussion alive till the next election. It worked for him so I’m sure you’d agree that it’s OK for me to do so as well. Right, Emma?

  6. A democrat believes in the rule of the people, so whether you like it or not, the people decided to vote for Mayor Hofbauer. You can bring out the name-calling, insults, and accusations that this small group delights in, and it won’t change a thing. A lot of people are giving him a chance.

      We who criticize Hofbauer must be quiet unlike he was during the campaign implying Mayor Ledford was corrupt. Mayor Ledford was elected too or didn’t you know that? Did you and Nadia and others give Mayor Ledford a “chance” to have his case brought to trial? I don’t think so. Or had you folks already convicted him.

      He has had his case delayed over and over as, apparently, THERE’S NO THERE THERE. Mayor Ledford isn’t asking for delays. He is being held up to postpone a not-guilty verdict far into the future. Just like Hofbauer and his Eye on Palmdale “convicted” Mayor Ledford over a year ago, I’m saying he’s “NOT GUILTY!” now.

      If you know so much, Emma, tell us “Why the delays?” and I don’t mean that fool Tom Delay.

      Like I like to say to you and other like-minded people “NO PASS!”

      You can nag us but we won’t sit still. Apparently you were fine with Hofbauer’s dirty campaign tactics and support from Rex Parris. We are working to correct that next election…..starting a while ago.

The people voted for Mayor Hofbauer, and all the comments that come from you, and all the new usernames that accompany you can keep on coming. I voted for James Ledford, and I supported him while he was being tried in the court of public opinion. Not on here where everything is distorted, but in person. A Democrat believes in the rule of the people, so on that note, I will respect the voters choice and give Hofbauer a chance. Post all the dirty stuff you want; maybe one day you’ll understand, or maybe not.

          • William…There are close to 160,000 people in Palmdale, and you play the big shot by thinking you and the others on here are the only ones defending Jim Ledford. There are a lot of people in Palmdale that defended Jim; we just don’t brag about it here all the time like you.

Business Insider (left leaning), reports the ten most miserable cities in California: Bell Gardens, Compton, El Monte, Hemet, Huntington Park, Lancaster, Lynwood, Montebello, Palmdale, and San Bernardino. Judging from all your incessant complaints about the A.V. (Lancaster and Palmdale), this is definitely true.

    • Lancaster has its issues. Panhandling, homelessness, lack of continuity, morally bankrupt leadership to list a few. But it is not more miserable than places like Oakland, Yuma, Pacoima, Richmond, Sylmar, and more than half the places I’ve driven through or stopped at. It is the most miserable place in the AV for sure.

  8. Partisan hatred is driving this nation to its destruction. I can see it from the name-calling, and complete lack of respectful dialog on a local level (A.V. Times commenters), all the way up to the national level, with elected politicians engaging in the same behavior. Both political parties are such a disgrace that the rest of the world is shaking their heads at our embarrassing, shameful behavior. You’re a part of what has devolved into chaos, and you don’t even know it. It’s called self-deception, and you will go down in flames explaining why you’re right when no one is right.

  10. I like to know how much Palmdale parking enforcement is making off the view companies by not giving out tickets for the beer companies blocking the handicap at the Mobil gas station at 4 Points this is continuous thing everyday day you make a phone call no one shows up

    I take it they are getting kickbacks from the beer company not to give out tickets because they’re handicapped people cannot park at this Mobil gas station

    I have pictures of all the beer trucks parked in the handicap I can post them at any time if I can find the right place

    • The problem is with the MOBIL Station.. they are allowing this behavior, take it up with the owners and KTLA 5 News .. and if you’re serious, park your car right in front of the Mobil Entrance DOOR, EVERY DAY you see this obstruction.

  13. Great line in today’s BG column, telling it like it on on Wreck’s BLVD of Broken Dreams………..

    The whispers and the rumors that this could be the last Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix powered by Toyota of Lancaster were flying as fast and loud as the Go-Karts this weekend.

    Some Lancaster BLVD merchants think it hurts their business.

    And what, the other 51 weekends every year when the BLVD is Los Angeles County’s largest open-air homeless shelter DON’T?

    LA County’s largest open-air homeless shelter. Understatement of the year.

    • Lots of local car clubs and other organizations hold their events on the Blvd and it is great. It draws people down there to the shops and restaurants. The MOAH museum also draws a lot of people.

      The car show that was held the weekend of Sept. 14-15 drew a large crowd from all over Southern California.

      The problem with street races is that they just don’t make much sense. I know three people that had birthdays the last week in September and they wanted to eat on the Blvd, but couldn’t, because of the street races. So they went to Black Angus or the AV Mall instead. That sucks if you’re a restauranteur down there.

      A better venue for street races would be a place like Apollo Park or the Fairgrounds.

      • The races were an effort to promote the blvd or so it seems. There must be something a smart mayor and council could do to make the blvd succeed.

        The problem is they’ve got the mayor and council they have. The blvd just reflects that for all to see.

        The band played on but the Titanic still sank.

        To those who have said “Give Hofbauer a chance.” Look at what happened to Lancaster when they gave Rex & Co. a chance. And another chance. And, another chance. Rex “owns” Hofbauer so we’ll see what playing a “game of chance” does for Palmdale.

      • Lots of things don’t make sense on the BLVD. Bex was ballyhooed by Ron Smith as putting BJ’s out of business. Nope. The Artists Lofts failed to become artists lofts. The bird sounds did little to lower crime but seem to have attracted panhandlers. Barones, a fixture in the AV, couldn’t get out of there any faster than they did. Skateboarders are as bothersome as the beggars. There is no continuity. A brewery next to an architecture office, and a pharmacy next to a restaurants. Businesses vanish all the time. Brittany’s, Vintage Styles Now, Hot Rod Dogz, Laemmle, Giannini’s, Chicago Dogs, Maribels, etc.

        It was a disaster from the start. Terrible traffic flow, located next to all the social services, hard to get to, no symmetry. There are many exceptional downtowns in cities across the country. The BLVD is not one of them.

  14. Y’know those folks that post comments here calling the High Rail Project “The Train to Nowhere.”. I wonder what their average education level is. They need to get their pack mules loaded and head back to the Texas Panhandle and get out of the way.

    Just saw a program on China which is going to overtake us as a super economy. Beside High Speed Rail, they have done away with money; that is cash and credit cards. They pay using their phones. Pickpockets are going “unemployed” because no one carries cash and people are always holding on to their phones.

    But, the average American who couldn’t and wouldn’t go for the metric system a few decades ago, will be left behind in the coming years. Well, they’ll probably die off before then taking their opioids because they ‘hurt’. Some are the folks that voted for Trump and wanted to “Bring back coal.”

    A Democratic president that follows Trump after next year will be very busy undoing the damage he has cost us in his quest to go BACKWARD.

  23. Mayor Jim Ledford’s trial date has been delayed again. I’ve always suspected that the real purpose of those allegations were to remove him from office and cause him financial harm. That’s the way Rex and his cohorts operate.

    Why the delays? If he is acquitted of all charges we need to go after Hofbauer for his dirty campaign convicting Mayor Ledford of crimes and corruption before there was a trial.

    That’s what Hofbauer’s campaign was all about. He is as rotten as Rex Parris.

I don’t get involved actively in politics like you, and I’m good with that. I said “what a sad situation for America,” because both parties are tearing this country apart, and that is my observation. Just take a look at all the divisiveness that goes on with people like you (Democrats), and people that are (Republicans). Disgusting tribal mentality that goes all the way to the top.

    You can bet that Mayor Jim Ledford, despite losing an election and being accused under questionable circumstances is a happier, more well-adjusted human being than Rex Parris of the over a billion served (sorry McDonald’s) er, billion in settlements plastered on billboards. Or, even Steve Hofbauer who is the new mayor.

Most big lotto winners are broke within a few years yet people who voted for Trump think they’ll get rich like the students at Trump ‘university’ thought.   39. I checked around and it seems that the Sprouts project on Rancho Vista Boulevard was started a couple years ago and Hofbauer had nothing to do with getting it going.

    The council just approved the zoning a few months ago and now he wants to take credit for it. Well, that sounds like something he would do after running a dirty campaign. I’m just surprised that he didn’t find a way to have Sprouts locate in Rexville instead of Palmdale.

I don’t live in Palmdale anymore but I have family and friends that do, and they as well as I, am happy to see this project coming to Palmdale. I know if the people of Palmdale are not happy with what Hofbauer, or the other politicians are doing, they can vote them out in the next election. I’m glad to see that most people are willing to give him a chance.

  40. The hoax shooting of a sheriff’s deputy was an embarrassment. The mayor of Lancaster made things worse by claiming that the apartment complex where the deputy said the gunfire came from is dangerous — not because a shooter was supposedly in the building, but because formerly homeless people with mental health conditions live there.

    This claim is as baseless as the concocted shooting.

    Research shows that having a mental health issue does not make a person dangerous. In fact, people with serious mental health conditions commit a tiny fraction—as little as three percent—of all violent acts. They are much more likely to be victims of violent acts than to commit them.

    Far from being a public safety hazard, the apartment complex provides an affordable, permanent, and service-rich home to people with mental illness. It gives people who are homeless a haven from the dangers of the streets, where they are at risk of victimization.

    In other words, the apartment complex is a public health and safety intervention that mitigates homelessness and helps keeps the community safe.

    Yet, even as the investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department quickly revealed that the deputy had fabricated the shooting, Mayor R. Rex Parris doubled down on his claim that the complex’s residents are dangerous, going so far as to recommend that the city build a barrier to shield the sheriff’s station from the adjacent apartment building. He remained unrepentant during a recent city council meeting when community members demanded an apology.

    It’s not unlike President Trump maniacally insisting, long after it was shown to be untrue, that Alabama was in Hurricane Dorian’s path.

    Parris’ demonization of the innocent apartment residents is only the latest instance in a string of false and hateful comments he has made about Lancaster’s most economically vulnerable community members. Responding to an uptick in the 2019 homeless count, he told people to arm themselves. He has repeatedly stated that unhoused people are not welcome in Lancaster, calling them “public health risks.” He advocated giving them one-way tickets out of town.

    People experiencing homelessness describe a pattern of harassment and exclusion by the city that matches the mayor’s words. For example, city workers have pushed homeless community members into remote desert areas where they are miles from water sources and subject to triple-digit heat. One man who lives in a broken-down RV with his pregnant wife said that officials told him to relocate just outside of city limits. “Now we are three miles from town, and we don’t have a working car,” he noted. “I’m worried about my wife and two elderly people who live out here.”

    Enough already. The mayor needs to stop peddling in crude, baseless stereotypes. He should apologize to the public for spreading misinformation about people with mental health conditions and make a direct apology to the apartment complex residents he insulted with his irresponsible claims. If he really cares about public health and safety, he should commit city funding to develop more affordable housing to end homelessness, so that every Lancaster resident has a safe place to call home. Moving forward, he should get his facts straight before he speaks and treat all community members with the dignity and respect they deserve.

    And if the Mayor can’t meet the basic standards of civility and decency that we expect of our elected officials, perhaps it is he who should leave town.

  46. Palmdale, Lancaster: Miles away but worlds apart

    It’s interesting to learn what some people collect and keep track of.
    Some collect rocks, some collect dolls or cars or stamps and some collect data.

    One of our subscribers and frequent letters to the editor contributor is one of the latter. He collects crime data, to be exact.

    He keeps handwritten charts of each crime reported in the Antelope Valley Police blotter, published daily in the Antelope Valley Press. After six months or so, he brings his findings in to the office, so we, too, can keep track.
    Recently, he brought in data from Jan. 1 to July 31, 2019. The information was quite interesting. According to his calculations, the following crimes occurred:

    1,199 assaults in Lancaster, 612 in Palmdale;
    334 burglaries in Lancaster, 221 in Palmdale;
    232 robberies in Lancaster, 118 in Palmdale;
    225 thefts from vehicles in Lancaster, 224 in Palmdale;
    596 thefts in Lancaster, 432 in Palmdale;
    288 vehicle thefts in Lancaster, 215 in Palmdale;
    30 rapes in Lancaster, 12 in Palmdale;
    25 arsons in Lancaster, 7 in Palmdale; and
    6 murders in Lancaster, 2 in Palmdale.

    Palmdale and Lancaster are just a few miles apart, but in looking at these statistics, they might as well be worlds apart. Lancaster clearly has more crime than its counterpart, but that’s something folks seem to already know. Clearly, our data collector noticed this, too, and began keeping track.

    What makes Lancaster more prone to crime than Palmdale? That’s a question we’re very curious about, but don’t have the answer to.

    Some point to the homeless population in Lancaster, as contributing to the crime rate, but it’s not just them. It would be interesting to find out how many homeless were involved in violent crimes such as murder, rape or assault.

    The city has a problem that needs to be fixed. Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris, in a TV interview, a few months ago, said it was his job to protect the residents of Lancaster. He made the comment when referring to homeless people, who might commit burglaries or thefts. He suggested that residents arm themselves and shoot the homeless, if necessary.

    That’s not going to solve anything, will it? It’ll just add to our frequent reader’s data collection.
    Shouldn’t he be more concerned with coming up with a plan to reduce violent crime — and crime, in general — in his city? The police can only do so much with the resources and personnel they have. In fact, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is short-staffed in Palmdale and Lancaster, so having deputies in every area of each city at all times is highly unlikely.

    What can be done to reduce crime in the Antelope Valley? We’d like to hear from our readers in the form of letters to the editor. Let us know what you think can be done and whether you agree with the data.

    • Great relevant editorial. According to Wikipedia, both cities’ populations are similar in numbers. Density is greater in Lancaster, but not quite in proportion to these crime stats. Density might relate to ratio of apartments to single family homes. City leadership is considered better in Palmdale but I think demographics should be factored in to reconcile the discrepancies. I think Palmdale has more immigrants, and Lancaster has more people from South Central.

      And before the politically correct (and ignorant) starts screaming at me, let me do it for you: RACIST, RACIST, RACIST. No, JUST FACTS.

      • There’s a video of Snoop Dogg talking about all the gangs that moved to Lancaster from L.A. The rent is cheaper, and they can raise their kids easier. Snoop said many different gangs moved to Lancaster. The video was in 2018.

      • Lancaster is run by morons, with the king of all morons Rex at the helm. For decades they have been more concerned about lining their pockets than the welfare of their residents. Race has nothing to do with it. Palmdale has long been more concerned about its people. Jim Ledford was a great mayor who is under investigation thanks to Rex and his attack dog DUI Drew.   49. Wrecks was on his game last night. Lie after lie after lie after lie. Deflect, deflect, deflect. When confronted about his statement telling people to carry guns illegally without permits and shoot the homeless if they rob you, he deflected and said it would be ok to shoot the vice mayor if he broke in your house to rob you. That wasn’t the topic. It was carrying guns illegally without a permit. You don’t need a carry permit to have a gun in your house.

    He never apologized for blaming the mentally ill at MHA for shooting a Lancaster deputy. Not a shot was fired. Instead, Wrecks tried to deflect about the hungry children. He repeated the lie that Los Angeles was dumping all their homeless in Lancaster. If Wrecks would do more than bulldoze the encampments, he would learn that the majority of the homeless in Lancaster are from Lancaster.

    Marvin blamed residents for voting down the so called homeless proposal that Wrecks and Company pushed. Anyone who read the fine print knew that it was just a ploy to get money for law enforcement to arrest the homeless.

    One speaker eloquently called out Wrecks on his “it’s insanity” to put the MHA building next to the Sheriff’s statement by reading Wrecks’ own words from his press release.

    In the end, Lancaster still is ruled by a meglomanic who lies and assassinates the characters of those who oppose his evil and idiotic rule. Lancaster voters are to blame.

If the people that planned this memorial had an issue with Mayor Hofbauer using his cell phone, then it would have been handled in an appropriate way, quietly and respectfully. There was no issue!           The first is “he was not on his cell phone.” Plenty of people saw that he was. If you check his Facebook page you can see the timestamp on his post. The absurd lengths that his paid defenders go to, with claims like “all cell phones were off” just make themselves look ridiculous.

  72. I saw Sellout Steve Hofbauer today. He attended the memorial of a man who was a genuine pillar of the community. As he sat with his chin on his chest, anyone who happened to look his way may have thought it was a bit disrespectful of Palmdale to be represented by someone who would sleep through the proceedings. Those who sat close enough to him could correct them on the “bit disrespectful,” because they could hear the continuous ‘beep, beep, boop, boop’ as he played with his phone.

        This letter is in response to R. Rex Parris’s TV interview about the sheriff who was shot yesterday (8-21-19).

        My sympathies are prayers are with the man and his family after this horrible crime. And I pray they find the person who did this.

        But I have to say that Mr. Parris was an “a$$” in his comments about the people who live in the apartment complex that they believe the shooter was in.

        First of all, how does he know that the shooter has “mental” issues? This person could be a convicted felon who hates cops! He could just be an angry person who had a bad run-in with a cop!

        Mr. Parris has no idea who this shooter is. So to call out people with a mental health disease, say they shouldn’t be allowed to live near the Sheriff’s Station, was horrible.

        People with a mental disease are human just like everyone else and have the right to live wherever they want.

        Parris’s comments are only fueling the problem this nation has with how society has become so unaccepting of people that they see as different.

        After listening to Parris’s awful TV interview, I believe that we should consider moving the people in that apartment complex to Mr. Parris’s neighborhood, since he says they shouldn’t be near the Sheriff’s Station. Just saying!

And then he canceled a diplomatic trip to Denmark because the prime minister was mean to him and wouldn’t sell Greenland? (Imagine the Greenland Trump Casino and Embassy there? It would have been awesome!) And then he demanded Russia be reinstated in the G8 (Obama convinced them of the fake invasion of Ukraine, if you can believe that.) And then he declared he was The Chosen One who’d been tapped by the almighty to launch a trade war against China? (An article in Facebook said God spoke to him in Spanish and Esperanto) And then he joked, again, about serving more than the constitutionally mandated two terms in office? (Again, on board. Woot!) And then he talked about how much the El Paso and Dayton shooting victims loved him? (I mean, who doesn’t?) And then he suggested he’d revoke birthright citizenship via executive order (retroactive to 1857) Oh, and every american company STOP DOING BUSINESS WITH CHINA NOW! HE HAS SPOKEN!

    Since the 1st of July alone, there have been (((1+1+1))) Antelopians killed by cars, or more accurately transportation pods r; many more than have been killed in the 6.4 and 7.1 Earthquake. Those were our largest earthquakes in 20 years in this state and no one died. Except for a man whose *Transport Pod™* fell on him in Nevada, which may or may not have been caused by the earthquake. But our Transport Pod murders occur on a weekly basis.

    On July 14, A man was driving a Jeep on 110th St W. He ran a stop sign at Ave O and ran into a car with two people causing its female passenger to die.

    On July 15, A person driving a minivan accidentally drove off a cliff on the Angeles Forest Highway, causing him to die. This is a place where people mainly drive at 80mph, and I’m not exaggerating.

    On July 19, a person died in a collision with a big rig.

    On July 21, A driver banza “did not see” 5 motorbikers stopped at a red light. They hit 3 bikers and 1 died the next day. These type of incidents are called SMIDSY, for “sorry mate I didn’t see you,” in British. SMIDSYs are prevented by less lanes, increasing the mental focus on each lane and (S)lower speeds to give the motorist more time to process their forthcoming obstacles before they encounter them.

    All we have to do is NARROW THE STREETS. IMPLEMENT 20/20 residential streets, a build a bikeway on every half-mile street.

    IT IS POSITIVELY CLEAR, as we like to say in this town, that with 165,000 people united on one front for the betterment of our city, we can stop ALL car murders in 1 MONTH. WE CAN DO IT

        It’s “I feel bad…”. “bad” is an adjective describing your state of mind. “badly” is an adverb describing your sense of touch (feel). On the other hand, you would say “I cook badly.” not “I cook bad”. Or, “I dance badly.” not “I dance bad.”. It’s adverb/adjective. I liked grammer in school of all things and it’s getting harder and harder with the casual way we speak nowadays. I’m sure you’ve seen people write ” I could of….” instead of “I could have….”.

        Frankly, I don’t know how people learn English as a second language as it’s so complicated and constantly changing. The Roman Empire grew as it did because Latin was a very powerful language that was able to communicate in ways that produced results rather than just describing or talking about things. For example, saying “I request ….” is more effective than “Would you mind blah, blah, blah…” which is the way we speak sometimes.

        I know this will go over Trumpist#1’s head as he has shown himself to be a person who reacts without thinking. Not good when someone says he owns guns.

          • Just so you know, Alexis, I wasn’t born knowing all this grammar stuff. But, writing on various websites, I’ve looked up a lot of things for myself such as definitions, grammar, sayings, foreign words, etc. Now, I know what portmanteau means in language.

            BTW I’ve seen you go back and quickly correct an error occasionally..

            So, grammar errors stand out more than they did for me years ago. At the same time, I like to write somewhat colloquially such as “‘y’all” (my ex was from Louisiana) and “gonna” and such.

            My hardest chore is the use of commas in sentences with clauses, Santa and others.

            Telling someone that their heart is full of gloom and doom isn’t really a Christian thing do do rather than showing compassion, is it?. It doesn’t reflect well on the brand as some misguided Christians do that all the time such as calling people “sinners”. That’s on them. Using faith to make others wrong and sinners really isn’t consistent with faith.

            People who don’t believe as Christians do about certain things aren’t sinners. Christians who believe that certain things are sins and commit those “sins” are themselves sinners by their own rules. Is that clear? That’s where widespread Christian hypocrisy is seen and may be why fewer people are attending church nowadays.

            Young people can see through that and are foregoing church attendance and looking elsewhere. I did and it’s working. There is authentic love in my life and I don’t much talk about it. I live it with the people in my life.

            It’s funny how people know that their dog loves them unconditionally yet dogs don’t talk about it, sing ballads about it, write poems about it. They are love. That’s what’s been available in my life with people and it has nothing to do with religion which sometimes takes the place of authentic love. It’s better than nothing but it’s no substitute for the real thing.

            Right now, you can’t deny that many so-called Christians are silent about the abuses that Trump has done to so many Americans and others. They will lose in the long run as history doesn’t support that kind of “faith” for long. Think back how many religious practices and ideologies have had to go over the centuries. How can they claim to be the “truth” when years later, they say “Oops, my bad.” Take the Mormon Church and its policies on black Americans that it had to change. I didn’know the truth needed changing so often, y’know, like diapers.

            I hope you can hear some of this. If you as a person of faith think others are stubborn for not accepting your beliefs, consider how it is to talk to Christians who can’t be open to things that challenge their faith. It goes both ways. I believe in 1 less god than you do.

      • There’s opinion when it comes to religion but be careful posting opinions as facts. It’s fine to say you believe in “X” but believing it doesn’t make it so. You don’t believe that gods fly across the heavens in chariots do you?

        Well people once did. Did gods really fly across the sky in chariots due to many people believing that?

        I don’t practice any faith but I’ve given it some serious thougtht and to the nature of belief itself.

        I don’t have doom and gloom in my heart. Where did you get that? That you would simply state that as a fact says more about you than me and undermines your claim to faith. Is that what Christians do when they talk to others? Is that how you see others because they don’t believe as you do even though you changed from one set of beliefs to another? How can you claim to know the truth when you go from one truth to another like changing political parties?

        If you’ve paid attention to my posts, it’s mostly to point out lying and hypocrisy which is especially prevalent in our politics. And, politics has a big effect on our lives and when it’s done without integrity things don’t work. Look around, Alexis. We’ve got a president who has lied over 10,000 times since taking office and religious folks hypocritically ignore that. That doesn’t work.

        Rather than believing in imaginary things, I work to relate to what’s so in life. My life works pretty well by doing that. The quality of my life doesn’t depend on a tax cut for example and I’ve never voted to get one. I supported Obamacare even though I don’t need it but I do want people who do to have it available. Even though I don’t have a religion telling me to do that, I’m quite surprised how some evangelicals who wear their religion on their sleeves support Trump and his caging of children and wanting to get rid of Obamacare. How Christian of them. That’s where it’s the hypocrisy I question.

  93. You are right, Nadia, along with the thousands of people that voted for Steve Hofbauer, to give him a chance as mayor. Even I know he has a consulting business. I remember like you when Palmdale was uninviting and sparse. I also know city planners before, which included S. H., and city planners now have much to do with the growth of Palmdale. This is an opinions section, not a fact based source to draw from. Some people never have a positive outlook.

    • I believe the time we had back in the ’60’s, ’70’s, and 80’s and before faceless social media, there was much more civil discourse. I went to high school with J.L., and have much love for both Lancaster and Palmdale. We have so much to be thankful for, and yet it is sad to read these vicious comments. I know there are a few on here that have been exceptionally vicious throughout, since 2011. They will always find a reason to be that way, because they are always unhappy and want to spread their poison. Thank you

            I will take a guess though, based on 1950s Palmdale being pretty much a one light town that this tavern was on Sierra Highway just off Palmdale Blvd.

          • Tim, Frank Zappa was living here in the early ’60’s, also. Interesting times for sure, and Lancaster Blvd was fun back then in a simple way. Frank, me, Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart), and Lauri Stone all left what we thought was a Podunk town, for the bid city.

  94. I heard Richard Engels, an NBC foreign correspondent, on Bill Maher’s Real Time show mention that China has a program called The Belt and Road Initiative.

    China is planning far into the future while we aren’t. I thought of how BYD might fit into their initiative as they are investing in our transportation infrastructure with their buses.

  95. I really hope BYD stays in Lancaster! So many jobs at stake, upwards of 800 people. A thorough investigation into BYD revealed there was no threat, and that comes from Katie Hill. Unstable paranoid people that can’t look beyond their own agenda.   96. The Palmdale City Council approved the Sprouts mixed-use development on 15th St West and Rancho Vista by a vote of 3-1. The only vote against the motion was by our village idiot Austin Bishop.

          • There are a lot of positive things going on in Palmdale, and one of them is Sprouts Farmers Market and the new townhomes, apartments, and other projects. Our Mayor has a lot to do with this positive growth, but the group of people that do nothing but try to tear down Palmdale with distortions will always be around. Ignore them and carry on. They’re nothing but a bunch of sore losers.

          • Hornblower is the best mayor Lancaster’s money can buy. The sad fact is Rex and Marv used him to get Ledbelly out. Now they are tired of Hornblower’s bloviations and will turn on him.             Mayor Ledford has brought about countless things in Palmdale for 26 years through thick and thin. Hofbauer comes along like Trump did claiming credit for something that was in the works before he took office. Tell us exactly what Hofbauer did. I know Mayor Ledford lobbied many companies personally to locate in Palmdale.

            I seriously doubt that Hofbauer is as effective a representative for Palmdale as Mayor Ledford was. Companies must think “Who is this joker?” when they meet him.

            Hofbauer took office December 13, 2018, a little less than 8 months ago and you 2 are giving him credit for stuff that was started before then. You have no creds.

            Who do ya think worked to get Trader Joe’s if you think Sprouts is a big deal? Palmdale Regional Medical Center with AV Hospital fighting it all the way. The High Speed Rail station right here in Palmdale. And on and on.

            Frankly, I suspect that all these new usernames praising Hofbauer are probably written by Hofbauer himself or his minions and I don’t believe them. I say we ignore you My home. Your guy ran a filthy, rotten campaign to win the office so don’t give us your stuff about tearing down things. Hofbauer did that to Mayor Ledford with the help of Rex Parris.

James Ledford is not our Mayor now, Steve Hofbauer is, and no, I am not Steve Hofbauer, bless your heart, nor am I one of his minions. I am a long time resident of Palmdale (since 1965), and I have chosen to give our elected Mayor a chance while he is in office. So far I am generally happy with what he is doing here for this community. I and so many others are going to give him a chance instead of being a part of some of you and your continuing hate campaign.

          • William hit the nail on the head. Ledford’s two decades put Palmdale in the forefront of the Antelope Valley. Lancaster was left behind in the dust and the only way they could stop it was to remove Ledford. Their smear campaign worked . Hofbauer needs to tell Rex and Marv to pound sand and keep Palmdale moving forward. Let Lancaster play with cannabis grows, Eye in the Sky, solar fields, and BYD. Palmdale is getting all the shopping, air service, rail service, and has Northrop and Lockheed.

          • Steve Hofbauer was a Senior Fire Inspector, Flight Medic, licensed EMT, Paramedic, Fire Marshall lll. He also was Planning Commissioner for Palmdale since 1992. He’s had an impressive career and has done much for this community. The voters elected him, and if they are not satisfied with him as Mayor, they can vote for another candidate. It’s that simple. Find something positive to do for this community instead of your constant complaining.

    I’m an NRA member. I have 10 firearms and go to the range with my family 5-6 times a year. I raised 2 kids that both served in the Army and each own an AR-15.

    Never-the-less, I can’t see the need to have weapons of war so readily available. Hunting ( I don’t), self-defense or target shooting does not require weapons designed specifically for war. I first shot an assault rifle in 1973 and they sure are fun. But necessary for anything else but mass shootings? I think not.

    California already bans sale, but I’m a renegade NRA member supporting a complete buy-back program for .223, 5.56 and 7.62 caliber assault rifles. What say you ???

    • I say that there is very little that California can do in the way of gun law making that can make a difference in the face of the Arizona border. Until we have FEDERAL regulations that at least make a lick of sense the states are just spinning their wheels because there is ALWAYS a neighbor state destroying any chance of making a difference.

      But as long as the GOP controls any level of the federal government there is no chance for any kind of sensible federal regulation to pass.

    For eight years we were oppressed (yes, oppressed!) by a man of color in the president’s office. All the racial intolerance that we had brewed since the 1950’s were under attack! Under that dark thumb’s rule, our racism grew and bloomed until it was honed into a fine instrument of intolerance. And suddenly, Trump shows up! He called Mexicans what they were, drug dealers, criminals, rapists (and some, he assumed, were just ok). And that’s when we knew that our oppression was at an end!!

    • I do know that Kensington Campus is goin to be wonderful! This isn’t just about building tiny homes to house people, but providing all the necessary means to help people up, so they can be productive citizens. It’s in a much better location than way out on 60th street west. This is much better than the shelter on Yucca was. So many services will be provided for those in need.

      • Yes the Kensington Campus will be wonderful. Scott Ehrlich will have a nice payday and 100 fortunate individuals who can afford the rent will have a beautiful place to live. The rest of the 3,400 to 4,000 homeless will still be left out now that the homeless shelter is closed and Wrecks refused to use the facility on Avenue I. But he will still blow smoke about his greatness. What a crock.

        • “Who can afford to pay the rent?” this isn’t about what you are saying. This is a shelter with all the services to go with it to help people transition to be productive citizens. The facility on 60th street was too far out. I’m talking to someone that doesn’t care about what Kensington Campus is all about. Everyone that is involved that truly cares, understands, and bless these people for making a positive difference. I will leave the complaining to you.

          • A lot of people understand what is really going on with Kensington. Wreck’s pal Scott Ehrlich is going to make a lot of money on a project that could and should be done more cost effectively. But that’s not important in Wreck’s Lancaster. What’s important is that you create the appearance of doing good but all the while your pals are taking in taxpayer dollars. It’s the same with LEAPS, Ecolution, Solar, whatever. So much more could be done with that $25 million, $26 million if you count the missing $1 million from the County.

          • Yes, and at Kensington Campus couples will be able to stay together. At the other places they couldn’t do that and that kept couples away. There will also be a place to keep their dogs. I know how important their dogs are to them, as I have had my little dog for twelve years. He was with me when I was homeless, and now he is with me as a productive citizen, gratefully giving back what so generously given to me; time and love.

          • Of course couples would be able to stay together at the shelter in I. Quit drinking the Wrecks Aid. There are between 3,500 and 4,000 homeless and Wetecks is funneling $25 million tax dollars to house 104. His backer Scott Ehrlich is going to make a killing while thousands suffer in the heat and cold. This is the ultimate show with little substance. I am happy for the lucky 104 people and their dogs, but I am angry that the other 3,400 to 3,900 people that could be helped are being left out by Wrecks and his continued insider deals that benefit the chosen few.

So many of those in need will be lifted up with all the services that will be provided on this wonderful 14 acre Kensington! “The People Concern” provide all that is needed to bring those in need the help to become productive citizens.

          • Alexis, I don’t have any argument with Kensington providing much needed services. Or with 60th street being too far out. That’s not the point people are trying to make.

            The issue is made clear by doing some simple math. The 60th street facility ran on a very short shoestring. Like, a budget of almost nothing, mostly provided by the Salvation Army. The county provided the site, and tried to provide about a million dollars which got eaten up by the “Wrecks tax” before it got through Lancaster. Now we have this approach, which helps 104 people but with the built in Wrecks Tax costs 25 million.

            If you want to do something for three thousand homeless, which is a conservative estimate, at that rate including the Wrecks Tax you are looking for three quarters of a BILLION dollars. Which means that there is no way to afford to help everyone that needs help. And that “no way” isn’t really a result of “there are just too many” or “it just costs too much to help.” That results DIRECTLY from “anything you try to do in Lancaster costs at least ten times what it should because the Wrecks Tax must be paid, and it must be paid FIRST.”

          • Your opinion is simply not true. This 104 you’re talking about is distorted at best, because they will be helping many, many more. This isn’t just about 104 homeless people, and the rest of the homeless, (except those that don’t want help), will have access to services. Move on Alexis, this commenter along with the others of the same mind-set don’t understand.

          • Also rehabilitating, finding employment, and so much more for the local homeless population. This includes all homeless that want help! This is not limited to 104 homeless like this commenter says.

          • The services that will be provided by Kensington are great. They will compliment what Grace Resources is doing, MHA, Salvation Army, AVPH, and all the other agencies currently working to help the homeless. Where Kensington is an epic failure is in is housing component. Wrecks chose to line the pockets of Scott Ehrlich rather than address the housing needs. $25 million could be much better spent, but not with a leader like Wrecks who rewards his donors over the needs of the hurting. Besides Wrecks doesn’t even live here anymore. He doesn’t care and here are 25 million pieces of proof. It’s just another show like LEAPS, Ecolution, Traction Seal, terrorist burial ban, and everything else he does. Smoke and mirrors. We need a real leader who see the issues, cares about the issues, and takes real steps towards resolving the issues.

After his interview on KABC 7 with Leo Stallworth aired and was shared on Facebook, people were outraged at his callous, insensitive, and maniacal suggestions regarding he homeless crisis. Wrecks went so far to suggest that people break the law and carry concealed weapons and shoot homeless people if they robbed him.

    The video has now mysteriously disappeared. It was taken down. Why? Does Wrecks control KABC 7 like he controls the Antelope Valley Press, Lancaster Sheriff’s Department, District Attorney’s office, and the judges who work the Anton0vich courthouse?

The same mind that gave us birds on the BLVD, Chinese birth tourism, necktie brain reduction, the eye in the sky, and Ecolution, is now suggesting that people carry concealed weapons in the fight against homeless robber.     • I heard that the CHP in the Sana Clarita area patrol the lower part of the 14 through the canyon and the AV office has the upper section. Both offices are small and have to patrol out to the ends of the county lines. Maybe it’s the Sheriff that you’re not noticing since they have way more cars.

    These are the words from Mayor R. Rex Parris at his prayer breakfast. When I read them, I threw up in my mouth.

    This is man who routinely confuses love your neighbor with sue your neighbor. He has long track record of ruining lives and careers. He engages in insider deals at every turn and in on record calling an African American man a gang candidate.

    Rex’s brand of Christianity isn’t one you will find taught in any Sunday School that I am aware of.

    He has declared war on gangs and war on Section 8. His latest war is on the homeless, the most marginalized people in our society.

    Proverbs 14:31 states “He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

    Shame on you Rex and shame on those who follow you.

    • Sunday school? Sunday is the first day of the week. God commands us to keep the Fourth Commandment, (Saturday, Sabbath). Saturday is the seventh day. Jesus kept the Sabbath.

      • Romans 14:5,6 – “One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord.”

        Many brothers and sisters keep the Sabbath on Saturday. Some on Sunday. Regardless, of which day, it is impossible to find Rex’s brand of Christianity taught on a Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.

        Shame on him and his supporters.

        • The Fourth Commandment is a command, not an option. God through Jesus tells us how to worship Him. He tells us what day He sets apart to keep Holy. Sunday is part of the six days that we can work and do common things, but Saturday (Sabbath) is the day He set apart (sanctified).

        • Romans 14:5-6…These verses do not concern “any” days that can be kept holy. Taking verses and suiting your own agenda without applying the entire chapter, and the full meaning of Paul’s discourse is a distortion. Many people misinterpret the Bible, and it is between God and Rex Parris. It is between God and all of His creation, what He is working out. Nowhere in the Bible does God change the day from Saturday (Sabbath) to Sunday, the first day of the week to call holy.

        • The Catholic Bishop of Rome (later known as Pope) officially changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. 321 A.D. edict, stamped by Constantine.

        • FYI Proverbs…Romans 14:5-6, along with the entire chapter is about the matter involving abstention from food on particular days, “to eat or not to eat” is the question at hand.

            Regarding Romans 14, yes to eat or not eat meat was the subject at hand, but Paul elaborates far beyond simply meat or no meat. The picture and issue is much bigger which is why he discusses honoring specific days, doing labor on the Sabbath, etc.

    Talking about the fundraiser for the Lancaster Sheriff’s Boosters, the Wise One said, “What we’re trying to do is give our deputies options other than just shoot someone.”

    It’s no wonder why our crime rate in Lancaster continues to rise. We waste millions of dollars on schemes like LEAPS and have leadership with absolutely no clue on what our Sheriff’s do or don’t do.
