PALMDALE– Palmdale Water District Board Director Kathy Mac Laren will be meeting constituents and answering questions at Coffee with a PWD Director, from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Irene’s Burger Cafe, located at 2067 East Palmdale Boulevard.
PWD will buy the first cup of coffee for those who attend the event.
Mac Laren will be the first of the five PWD directors to host a coffee event, which is designed to give customers the opportunity to meet their representatives and ask water-related questions in a casual environment.
For those unable to attend, Mac Laren will be on Facebook Live from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on PWD’s Facebook page, @palmdaleh2o. Written questions may be submitted as Facebook messages and will be answered.
“I am really looking forward to having coffee with our ratepayers and discussing any concerns they may have,” Mac Laren said in a news release. “It is a great opportunity for me to hear firsthand from our community. As directors, we need feedback from our constituents so that we can do a better job of representing them.”

She works in business development for IBEW/NECA, and serves as a director on the 50th District Agriculture Association and the Antelope Valley Fair Association.
On June 12, PWD Director Robert E. Alvarado will hold his Coffee with a PWD Director, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Starbucks, located at 1763 East Palmdale Bouelvard. Hannah says
IBEW 11/Kinkisharyo Code of Excellence Committee. Internet grouches will always be here.
Union Brother says
What about the building trades? Union brothers and sisters but they don’t matter to IBEW leaders. They cut a deal with Parris for the solar jobs but they screwed the building trades. Don’t we count? We could have had both but sellout “Job Killer” had her deal cut.
Hannah says
Union Brother…The truth is building trade unions set up front (fake) organizations to get solar companies, and other companies to bend to their will. You just can’t take responsibility for your part of the deception, so you lay everything on Mac Laren.
Angry in Antelope Acres says
Huh? The building trade unions had NOTHING to do with killing the Kinkishario manufacturing plant. NOTHING. “Job Killer” Mac Laren, her union and her so called environmental group AVRRD had EVERYTHING to do with it.
Here’s the letter that explains https://www.theavtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Kinkisharyo-withdrawal-letter.pdf.
Here’s the AV Times article on the debacle https://www.theavtimes.com/2014/10/14/plans-for-kinkisharyo-plant-in-palmdale-derailed-by-labor-dispute/
Where is Mac Lauren AVRRD now that Antelope Acres is under environmental siege from all those solar projects?
Kathy says
Read Hannah’s comment again, Angry. All unions, yes, all unions use fake organizations (fronts) to bend wills. All unions use green lawyers to intimidate, and manipulate. If you are in the union then you are one collectively, and each one of you are a part of the intimidation tactics used. The articles you bring up show part of what goes on everywhere, not just in the A. V.
Kathy says
It’s not her environmental group. Apparently you either aren’t in a union or you don’t understand that unions are one collectively. There are many environmental groups (fronts) that unions use through their green lawyers to intimidate. they do this in every county, everywhere.
Union Prisoner says
Kathy “job killer” led the effort to kill all the union jobs that were going to build the state of the art manufacturing plant. Plain and simple! IBEW then organized the work force. Nothing in this for the other building trades what so ever! Self serving to say the least.
Kathy says
She along with others involved were only doing what every union does. You got aced out, and it’s not like you don’t do the same thing. You’re just as self serving as the rest, it’s that simple. All unions are bullies and use green lawyers to bully company’s. You guys have so many environmental fronts it’s mind boggling. Unions are dinosaurs, and need to just go away.
Union Made says
We didn’t pull any environmental BS on Kinkishario. “Job Killer” did. We were there to support the power plant that Rex wanted to kill. When he wanted to kill Kinkishario in Palmdale, he got his willing stooge with “Job Killer” Mac Lauren. She stuck it to all of us.
Eastside Critic says
This Kathy Mac Laren woman is not well liked! Yikes how could she have climbed up the local political ladder?
Bill Richardson says
There are a lot of people that like Kathy Mac Laren. She works very hard, and that is why she is in the position she is in. James Ledford could see this attribute in her. You’re obviously envious. I miss James Ledford as Mayor. It’s easy to post ugliness using a screen name.
Building Trades says
There’s no doubting that “Job Killer” worked hard to make sure that the Kinkishario plant never got built. It takes a hard worker to get up in front of people with a straight face and say how concerned you are about the environment when you know you are backing the total destruction of the western Antelope Valley with miles and miles of solar fields. She sure does work hard for her master Rex. He rewards her well.
Hannah says
Building Trades…It’s not easy being green (jealous). Everything was worked out in Nov. 2014, and thing’s are going smoothly now, four and a half years later. Then you switch to solar fields, and blame that on her too. LOL, You would be right there working on those solar fields if you hadn’t been so greedy. guess you didn’t qualify.
Stephen says
A settlement was announced in November 2014-Kinkisharyo would build the plant in Palmdale, and JMA dropped a public records lawsuit against Kinkisharyo. In return the company agreed to card check and not to oppose unionization. Kinkisharyo alo agreed to work with a coalition of community groups that JMA had brought together; minority groups, veterans groups, and women’s groups, to assure a diverse workforce. Kinkisharyo is running at full tilt. Some commenters just can’t let go of their malice. Garcetti acted as mediator, and did a fine job.
Union Made says
Kinkisharyo will be long gone once the contract is up thanks to Kathy “Job Killer” McLaren. 300 good-paying trades union jobs gone. Who knows how many permanent jobs will end up in some other state, thanks to “Job Killer”. But she’ll still enjoy her cruises to Alaska where she can see the glaciers melt.
Tim Scott says
Thinking that Kinkasharyo was going to change their long demonstrated policy is a mistake. Every contract they have ever had involved a “we are looking to build a permanent facility” carrot, and they never have and almost certainly never will. Not saying that you should stop bashing McLaren for being in the pocket of Wrecks, but McLaren or no McLaren Kinkasharyo wasn’t going to come through.
Stephen says
Greenmailing: When unhappy laborers use green causes to hurt a company. All unions do this.
Union Made says
Funny how she was against building the plant in Palmdale but the next day when her papa Rex offered to build the plant in Lancaster, she was a silent and compliant lamb.Hypocrisy rules in the AV.
Mark says
I was one of the people who was supposed to get hired at Kinkishariyo until I never got the call to come in. Then, when I made the effort to make some calls on my own, I was told that my employment status was put on hold “indefinitely” until “matters with outside parties” could be straightened out, meaning: A lot of us who were promised jobs were never hired because of the significant downsizing that had to be done at that time. It was disappointing, to say the least. Kathy has had the benefit of a long and prosperous career and she is lucky.
Brotherhood says
Mark your story is shared by hundred of tradesmen and women who would have had local jobs building the new facility. We need new leadership with vision and compassion, not the same pool of bought and paid for yes people who carry out the wishes of their bearded master who lives in a multi million dollar house with a beach view in Laguna.
Alexis says
There was a time when unions were beneficial to this country, but that time has long since passed. Today, they are nothing more than greedy political machines. If the union can’t have its way, the company can take those jobs elsewhere. Unions are a dinosaur that just needs to go away.
Annon says
I don’t have a problem with unions. I have a problem with so-called union leaders like her who gave the finger to the construction trades by killing the Kinkisharyo project. To do it on environmental grounds is hypocritical especially when she supports the destruction of Antelope Acres and the West Valley with Solar projects. Like so many other so-called leaders in the AV she is only concerned about lining her pockets.
Union Made says
Will she answer question about why she killed the construction of a permanent Kinkishariyo manufacturing plant in Palmdale? She killed 300 union construction jobs and who knows how many permanent jobs. She said it was because of environmental concerns, but she shows no concern about the environment as she supports Rex and his destruction of the West Valley with miles and miles of solar farms. Apparently Valley Fever, disruption of the ecosystem, and displaced wildlife is of no environmental concern.
Flint Michigan says
Does she know if the nitrates in our water supply could cause Blue Baby Syndrome? Is it worth paying GN’s proposed water tax to protect our babies?
Complimentary Coffee says
That is the least the PWD can do before they gouge the ratepayers.
Union Made says
Let her explain how she hurt her Union brothers and sisters by preventing the construction of a “State of the Art” manufacturing plant for Kinkisharyo so she could organize the rail workers and unionize them into the electrical IBEW union. Self server for sure.
Union Made says
Kathy “Job Killer” MaClaren thugs will be in attendance at Irene’s. Try the Facebook connection although you will be ID’d.
