LANCASTER – Mayor R. Rex Parris has announced his intent to nominate Darrell Dorris to finish the term of Councilwoman Angela Underwood-Jacobs when she steps down on Dec. 3 to run for California’s 25th congressional district seat.
“Mayor Parris intends to appoint Deputy Mayor Darrell Dorris to the City Council subject to the council’s approval of his nomination at the City’s next Council meeting on December 10, 2019,” according to a news release by the city of Lancaster.
“Working with Deputy Mayor Dorris has been an exceptionally rewarding experience not only for myself but also for our entire community,” Parris said in the news release. “Over the past two years, Deputy Mayor Dorris has committed his life to bridging the gap between the city and Lancaster’s faith-based leaders.”
Dorris graduated from Morningside High School in Inglewood, and soon after attended El Camino College, where he majored in music. He started his career at Aerospace Dynamics in Valencia as a mechanic.
Dorris found his true calling in serving the community after working for the LA County Probation Department as their Community Service Officer of Operation Read. During his time with the LA County Probation Department, Dorris helped secure resources for minors to improve their reading and comprehension skills.
In 2002, Dorris opened the Living Faith Cathedral in Lancaster. Through the church, Dorris provides counseling and coordinates community service projects throughout Los Angeles County. Dorris is married to his wife, Roshunda, and they have four children.
“We will be fortunate to have such a compassionate and dedicated member of the community serving as our next City Councilmember,” Parris added.

Read the article again, please. particularly the first paragraph regarding Angela Underwood-Jacobs stepping down on Dec. 3. Remember to vote in April, that’s April 2020.
Katherine Anderson says
How does Rex get away with this after he made such a stink about Palmdale’s leadership needing to be voted upon by constituents in designated zones? Where is the investigation of this? Unbelievable.
Voter says
How does Rex get away with it? Simple.
1. He controls the churches and their voters
2.He owns and controls all the large businesses in Lancaster.
3. Up until very recently, his advertising bought control of the local newspaper.
4. He controls the Lancaster Sheriff’s Department.
5.He donates and controls local judges and the District Attorney.
6. It takes a scum of the earth lawyer to sue cities and school districts for voting districts. There are only a few and he is the biggest scum of them all.
7. Voter apathy in Lancaster is huge.
8. The people who do vote in Lancaster are not the brightest bulbs in the candelabra.
9. He holds elections in April with polling locations at his big churches.
10. He counts the mail in ballots at Lancaster City Hall behind closed doors
Until the people wake up, write letters to the media and demand investigations, and vote him and his puppet out of office, it will be the same old same old in Lancaster.
We deserve better.

So, do any of us Lancaster residents ever get to actually vote for any of these people, or are they all just hand-picked by Rex & Co.?
For a longtime, I was a supporter of Mayor Rex Parris and his efforts to clean up Lancaster and improve things. I feel that he has done a good job, for the most part.
However, I’m starting to grow uneasy about a lot of things here, namely, the appointment of people to city positions without the citizens having any say.
Rex’s son was appointed to the city planning commission. Raj Mahli was appointed to the city council, Angela Underwood was appointed…this Mr. Dorris was appointed as “Deputy Mayor”.
What is going on here? These constant “appointments” smell of autocracy.

We get to vote for whoever Rex anoints as his chosen ones. That is how it works in Lancaster. Rex and the Lancaster Political Machine comes first, we come last.
Rex’s efforts to clean up Lancaster have resulted in rising crime, a growing homeless problem that he pays lip service to (when he’s not telling us to carry guns illegally and shoot them if they rob us), millions of wasted dollars on failed projects such as LEAPS, TractionSeal, and Ecolution, millions of dollars in lawsuits, lies, and a sullied reputation.
Other than that, he has done an amazing job.
Tim Scott says
You left out the collapse of Lancaster’s credit rating. It seems the bond markets aren’t impressed with funding a city that is treated like a private piggy bank by its mayor and his political cronies.
Eyes on Hofbauer says
How long before Palmdale’s credit rating drops too?
Hofbauer and the minion council are running through the reserve funds probably to claim credit for things next election. What sleazy characters.
And, if a recession comes, we will be low on reserves.
East Lancaster says
Another Rex yes man. Haven’t we had enough of those? Rex really stretched out to be inclusive on this one. Let’s see, another person connected to a large church which assures Rex and Co. of votes. Probably lives on the west side and is a good Republican.
Rex could have reached out to East Lancaster an nominated an East Lancaster resident, maybe a Hispanic female. But why would he? He has another puppet and he is the puppet master.
Maybe his role as a pastor will bring some sense into Rex’s handling of the homeless in Lancaster, or actually the mishandling. I’m not counting on it.
Mike Kirkland says
This is how they control who serves so don’t count on being a Pastor to somehow get to Mayor Rex. You only have to look at Hearns to know better. He sold out to finance his church and this new appointment may want the same treatment. BTW Hearns is still selling out to Rex to keep the minority population in check.

Best of luck to Darrell Dorris…
