LANCASTER – Authorities have identified the woman who died Friday night after she was struck by two vehicles while trying to cross the street in Lancaster.
She was 33-year-old Raylene Martinez, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, on the 43600 block of 10th Street West.
Martinez and a man were crossing 10th Street West outside of a marked crosswalk when they were both struck by a pickup truck, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
“As the pedestrians were in the two way left turn lane, a pickup truck being driven by a male adult pulled into the two way left turn lane to access a local business. The driver of the pickup saw the pedestrians and swerved but was unable to avoid them,” the news release states.
“The female adult pedestrian [Martinez] fell into the northbound traffic lanes of 10th Street West and was struck by another vehicle,” the news release states.
Martinez was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The male pedestrian was also transported to the hospital and is being treated for his injuries. His name was not released.
“Alcohol or drugs are not a factor of this collision, neither is the speed of the vehicles,” the sheriff’s news release states.
“Anyone who witnessed this collision is encouraged to contact the Lancaster Sheriff Station at 661-948-8466.

I see people crossing the street the wrong way all of the time in this valley. It’s almost as if people dare you to hit them. Yes, it wrong not to stop, of course; however, many of these people who are hit did not follow the rules for crossing a street. Even if they are following the law, painted lines indicating a crosswalk is still no match for a moving vehicle.

You know what we’ve all been there across the street outside of the crosswalks everybody’s done it the way I see it at least thats way I learned it’s the responsibility of the person driving the motor vehicle to keep his eyes on the road at he wasall times .
….. See I know this much she wasy daughter Raylene was hit hard enough to be thrown into another Lane that means he was going faster than what he said any idiot could see that so why was the man not charged it was his responsibility he was driving the vehicle I killed my daughter the very least they should have suspended his license at least until this is all taken care of and I don’t care what the sheriff say this is not finished my daughter will have her day in court and the thing you people don’t realize she was born deaf she knew nothing wrong……. The motor vehicle is not a toy nor does it have eyes, ears or a brain that’s what the driver is for even though most drivers don’t have one either that truck had two headlights why couldn’t he see?? Why did he not slow down?? if you can not see with low beans put the high beams on I lost my daughter because this driver did not use common sense I like to know why ??? And what’s???
going to be done about it
I’ve changed my ways let see if the Law work’s for me
now
This is a type driving I see all over the place now on Western in Los Angeles, on Normandie in Los Angeles they even have a nickname for Normandie they call it “norman die” catchy isn’t it
In the past 4 years I’ve been the victim of at least three Auto collision accident while my vehicle was parked if I can’t fix them they don’t get fixed look all around not just in Lancaster but everywhere this is the type of driver DMV is letting out on the road speed demons loud tailpipes smoking tires and this is all over everyone that’s on foot me to beware you can get run over at any time day or night it’s time DMV did something about this and the Los Angeles Sheriff department
And just to think back in 1997 my license was suspended because glendora Police department decided give me a ticket are you driving with no vehicle information on it whatsoever and the funny part about it is Los Angeles traffic Court gave me my license back in 1997 it’s the department of motor vehicles that will not give me my license back even though they threw it out in 1997 you can’t even find anything of it anymore
It took my daughter
Darlene’s
death for me to stand up and say something I’m hoping to make a change
Common Sense says
Just this afternoon I saw a moron in a handicap scooter crossing the same place, same way, outside of the crosswalk, and traffic was busy. The fool couldn’t wait and use the crosswalk. Holding up traffic. No sympathy from me if he became injured.
