SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wilk, representing the 21st Senate District, and Assemblyman Tom Lackey (R-Palmdale), submitted a letter Wednesday to Governor Gavin Newsom urging him to give cities in northern Los Angeles County the ability to create their own Regional Recovery Plan and move to the next stage of his Resilience Roadmap and reopen.
Senator Wilk issued the following statement:
One size does not fit all when it comes to COVID19 and the communities it has impacted. The governor already acknowledged that reality when he allowed counties to create their own recovery plans. Today we are requesting that the governor apply that same logic in Los Angeles County – which is the size of Michigan. The high desert portion of the County, which we represent, is being unfairly impacted by LA County’s continuing stay at home order. The cities of Lancaster, Palmdale and Santa Clarita are more rural and sprawling then their highly populated counterparts to the south and should not be held hostage while the City of LA works to get control of the virus. The Resilience Roadmap lays out a path for safe and responsible reopening of the state. North LA County should be able to use this Roadmap and call the shots on a safe and responsible reopening.”
Assemblyman Lackey issued the following statement:
I support a balanced, science-based approach to managing the consequences of this severe pandemic. The high desert portion of Los Angeles County is dramatically different than the basin in the landscape, transportation considerations, and population density. Our region deserves a separate timetable for reopening.”

If any are inclined to listen, a few points. First, 60,000 people die in Los Angeles County every year, and of the age appropriate deaths the top causes are heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, cancer, essentially what you’d expect. Germany did autopsies on all who died with Covid-19. Over 95% had one or more of heart disease, lung disease, cancer, diabetes, etc., and were elderly. You can overlay the leading causes of age appropriate deaths in Los Angeles County and Covid-19 deaths and they’re virtually identical. Coved-19 primarily affects the elderly (over 75 j who have one or more of these existing conditions (co-morbidities). That’s why the Florida approach has done well and the New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Minnesota approaches haven’t. We all knew or should have known these truths based on what happened in Italy for the data showed the same pattern of overwhelmingly impacting the very old with one or more co-morbidities. Now that the season has changed the danger from Covid-19 is abating as it does with all corona viruses. Per Dr. Birx the numbers are very good, and per Dr. Fauci we cannot continue to stay in lockdown as it is dangerous for a whole host of reasons. If you’re getting a paycheck while staying home you are in no position to condemn others who aren’t as fortunate as you. Stay home, and realize all the dangers of life existed last year and every year prior and will continue for every year hence. Nobody gets out of life alive. So educate yourself with all of the resources available and live.

Sad and disgusting that you feel as though some lives are worth sacrificing when they could be saved in the name of making a dollar. Would you still feel the same if it were a loved one of yours who’s elderly and at risk of dying of COVID-19? I’m sure not and its sad that you’re probably one of the people who’s not phased by a problem until it personally affects you.

The virus is abating, today the University of Oxford is concerned that the virus is receding so fast there may not be enough infected people available to appropriately test to create a vaccine. Further the doom and gloomers are ignoring this fact and the fact that the virus is abating in the states that have opened up, just like everywhere else. Keep up, life moves on. Propaganda and fear porn from CNN doesn’t support anything. There are no guarantees in life. I am worried, however that not enough people are incensed about bio-weapons research using corona viruses and RNA splicing. Using your analysis all future tourism and travel must end as you can’t predict what germ, virus or whatever is lurking around the next corner. Stand back and see the big picture, the sky hasn’t fallen. Further, do you revel in the destruction of people’s livelihoods. Does depression and suicide warm your soul? Is science and data emotional? Lastly, my mother is 80 with late stage Alzheimer’s/Dementia in lockdown at AVCC. She’s at high risk due to her age and circumstances, so I don’ t need an ill informed lecture from you.

I do hope this passes. For those of you too scared to venture out, stay home. It is time to get things open again.

Money over life can only be found in the AV.
Bri says
No one has even passed away in the AV. DO your research instead of your fear mongering.

Wrong! My friend, Max was a resident of a nursing home in the Antelope Valley. She died of the corona virus in mid may. She was vibrant and full of life, most interesting person I’ve ever met.

Wrong Bri, 8 in Lancaster, 13 in Palmdale last I checked.

That would be convenient if those of you who’re stupid enough to want to go out during a global pandemic didn’t run the risk of bringing it back home to those of us who’re smart enough to stay indoors Bri.
Dimwit Politicians says
Bullxxxx, these Republican politicians don’t care about their constituents, they care about making money by selling their positions to Lockheed, Northrop and others that see employees as disposable. How do they sleep at night? Rotten to the core politician dimwits. Here is a thought, “you first”, go out with your family, children and elderly relatives, if you survive this, we all agree to support you. When do you start?
Lancaster Resident says
I’m hoping that Gavin Newsom fiercely slaps down this insincere request. I do not trust these Republicans one bit. They do not genuinely care about the well being of Palmdale, Lancaster and Santa Clarita residents. They care about business and corporate profits above all else and thats why they want to re-open the high desert and send people back to work asap. Do the right thing Gavin and reject this request.
Aunt Bee says
Just as long as these elected officials are not making health decisions. Republicans have already established that there are acceptable death rates to rationalize money over people. Tragic
