Congressman Garcia calls on Biden to “follow the science” and encourage California to reopen schools

Rep. Mike Garcia, a Republican whose 25th District includes the Antelope Valley, joined 66 other Members of Congress to send a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to “follow the science on COVID-19” and encourage state and local leaders to reopen schools across California and the United States.

“We must reopen schools as soon as possible, and I don’t mean just one day a week as the Biden Administration ridiculously proposed,” Garcia said. “We are depriving children of the education and support that they need. It is time for President Biden and Governor Newsom to listen to the science and open our schools and communities back up.”

In the letter, the lawmakers requested that Biden follow through with the pledge he made during his campaign and inauguration to follow the science when it comes to COVID-19.

“Approximately six percent of children in the United States struggle with some form of emotional or behavioral difficulties, including autism, depression, and trauma-related mental health conditions. Many of those children depend upon their schools for access to the therapies they need. By allowing our nation’s schools to remain shuttered, you are depriving these children of the people and support systems they depend on,” the lawmakers wrote. “In addition to the impact of the youth mental health crisis, school closures are increasing education inequality in the United States.”

In the letter, the lawmakers also pointed out that case numbers and hospitalizations continue to drop across the country and urged Biden to encourage state and local leaders to begin the process of fully reopening the economy. The lawmakers point out that currently there are nearly ten million fewer jobs in the U.S. than before the pandemic.

“Our community and country have been devastated by mandated lockdowns,” Garcia said. “It is imperative that we do all we can to help our communities safely open up again. Many small businesses have had to shutter their doors and many more individuals have been left unemployed. It does not help that the State of California is struggling to properly distribute unemployment claims to Californians in need. We cannot continue down this path that is destroying our economy and community.”

  1. You know… I was going to go through all of your ridiculous points individually, but one statement that you made stuck out at me and really said it all about the mindset of you trumplicans…

    You trumplicans seem to truly believe that you have no control over anything that occurs around you and that ‘da dems’ are all ‘out to get you’ in literally EVERYTHING. And I mean EVERYTHING: You morons are now even trying to find conspiracies in which vaccine is given to whom based upon political party when NOBODY ASKS ABOUT PARTY TO GET A VACCINATION.

    You take this even to the point of believing, somehow, that your republican party was fractured by ‘da dems.’ Seriously? How? Is your party’s structure so weak that some other party can destroy it? Isn’t it YOUR party, with YOUR people in it? If you guys can’t get your plank straight, that isn’t anyone’s fault but your own.

    I would ask just how stupid you can be, but you trumplicans always seem to take that as a challenge.

        • Although you are correct in the track record for the government in general, there’s more to it than just that. Trump and his allies have truly messed with the heads of our fellow citizens with just plain outright lies that are provably false, over and over again.

          Yet, due to these lies coming from a President that they wanted to believe in, and in spite of all evidence to the contrary, they have actually accepted what they would have otherwise repudiated as the lies that they are.

          This leaves us now with a government with an only so so record of honesty (as you noted) tasked with trying to set the records straight again.

          I truly do miss actual political debate on these forums. I enjoy the lively debates on the different viewpoints of how to move our country forward. Sadly, such is not possible when dealing with people who have resigned themselves from the same reality as the rest of us and are no longer willing to work within the confines of the sociopolitical contract of the Constitution. It’s tough to debate an issue when the opposition isn’t dealing in reality, telling the truth, or acting in an honorable fashion. So, here we are; calling out the bullschnit when it is flung and just hoping that some of our fellow community members can snap out of it and rejoin reality.

    • I think politics has purposely rooted itself deeply into modern day society to break any sense of friendship and community. Today we have people on both sides calling eachother names, willing to fight eachother over some political party or political rhetoric that wouldn’t hesitate to rip any of the freedoms you enjoy today.

      As you’re ripping eachothers throats out, just as you’ve been indoctrinated to by the people you gravitate to, those you call “leaders”, they’ll continue to tax you in order to continue living luxurious lives beyond your imagination.

      Perhaps see eachother as equals rather than fight amongst eachother. Understand that the enemy isn’t your neighbor. Its the people in office who subliminally push you to hate those who carry a different opinion than your own.

  2. Once Bejing-Biden was formally inaugurated, the GOP ceased to technically exist as a meaningful, singular political body. Sheepishly conceding on election-rigging, happy to inaugurate the most incompetent, the most corrupt democrat in American history, the 5 splintered remnants of the once proud GOP dangle in limbo, hanging on by a thread as ancillary spokes to the centralized Democrat party hub. The combination affected, America’s right-leaning moderates and conservatives are left socially ostracized by mainstream and social media, beached on a political sandbar, marooned, no meaningful representation at federal level. Limousine liberals gone berserk, busy laying Republicans off high-paying jobs, covering up their election-rigging folly, cooking the books on their popularity polls, America is now officially reduced, to a single-party autocracy.

        • Already happening. You don’t agree, or donate to the wrong party, they “cancel” you. Mike Lindell is the latest example. He speaks in favor of the Republican party and capitalism, next thing you know, a bunch of well known Democrat supporting corporate businesses cancel him. Elon Musk is another in hot water. Any Hollywood actor who sides the wrong way, canceled.

          Mike Lindell is facing the inevitable consequences of his insistence on continuing with the stolen election lie and actively attempting to get Trump to overthrow the election with military force for a coup. That last part tends to make any other businessmen uneasy as it could negatively affect the stability of the country and hurt business. Therefore, Mike Lindell is too much of a risk to do business with. Instead of allowing an opinion, they cancel you because of “liability”. If he (Lindell) were democrat, there would be no liability. He would be protected by his media and business partners.
