Lancaster Sheriff’s Station reminds residents to do the #9PMRoutine

LANCASTER – A local resident posted security camera images to social media recently that showed a man going car to car, checking to see if any doors were unlocked. The post caught the attention of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, which used the incident to warn residents.

“Had any of the doors been unlocked, it would have only been a matter of seconds before he stole items from the car. The owners wouldn’t even have noticed until the next morning,” according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

Authorities are reminding local residents about the #9PMRoutine!, an initiative that promotes safe habits to prevent unnecessary thefts from vehicles, as well as home and car burglaries.

Lancaster Sheriff’s Station officials are encouraging residents to set a nightly alarm at 9 p.m. on their smartphones, watches or other devices to remind them to:

  • Remove valuables (electronic devices, wallets, etc.) from their vehicle.
  • Ensure that vehicle doors and trunks are locked.
  • Check that all house and property exterior doors and garages are locked.
  • Turn on exterior lights.

“We are all in this together, so don’t just join us – help us spread the word within your community. Post a picture of you locking your doors and/or securing your car, hashtag #9PMRoutine. Remind your neighbors, friends and loved ones to lock their valuables too,” local officials said in the news release.

  1. Come on everyone.. These people that do this are just looking for valuables for food and shelter. This person didnt break a window instead he is only seeing if the doors are locked. I think people assume that he is a criminal only because he is African American.. Everyone who believes he is a criminal is racist. If he was white this wouldnt have made it to media.. The Media is Racist.

    • Please stop , you are assuming a lot for someone who says assumptions are racist. He is trespassing and it’s not his car. Black or white it’s criminal activity. Stop race bating. This is about law and order and nothing else. Your comments make people racist, you are irresponsible with your thoughts and mouth. And yes the media is racist , when it needs to be , it’s not when it needs to be as well. Guess it depends on who you ask.

  2. I don’t leave anything of value in a car that I’m parking overnight, period. I take them in when I go in. I had cars on both sides of me broken into and an empty purse left behind mine a couple of years back because there was nothing to steal in mine.

    • Lookb at the Ring video history of your city. And you’ll see the majority of these incidents are BLM.

    • It is probably Jonathan M. Laws. He’s a professional thief. Rapist, and serial Murderer. He is a parolee at Large, for the past three and a half years. If you leave you garage door remote controller in your vehicle he will use it to get into your house. He is working with a gang of these criminals. That keeps getting let out of the prison. There is absolutely no justice left for the victims here in America.
