LANCASTER – A motorist was killed Wednesday in a head-on crash with a big rig in the Lancaster area.
The collision was reported about 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at East Avenue J and 170th Street East, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A man behind the wheel of a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage was westbound on Avenue J when he “allowed his vehicle to turn to the left and into the eastbound lane of travel,” CHP Officer Monique Mischeaux said.
The driver of a 2020 Freightliner traveling east was unable to avoid the car, according to Mischeaux.
“Tragically, another life was lost here in the Antelope Valley,” Mischeaux said. “This is the sixth person killed so far this year in the Antelope Valley CHP jurisdiction. You can help us prevent these senseless deaths by obeying all traffic signs and signals, obeying the speed limit, and always wearing your seatbelt.”
The fatally injured man was not immediately identified. The CHP said drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Sullas Dorsey of Lancaster, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Dual Carriageway Roads says
What the heck. People seem to die on E Avenue J every few months, and yet it’s still not a dual carriageway road!!! Who thought traffic moving 60 mph in both directions (60+60 = 120 mph velocity difference) was safe to be in lanes next to each other!!!!
Either remove the center line and force people to drive 35 mph, or upgrade the road into a dual carriageway road so people don’t die from head-on collisions!

Distracted driver or a medical emergency or something else? Unless anyone was else was in the vehicle with the person why are you speculating as to what caused the accident? Bottom line is someone lost their life and this person was someone’s family member.

We need to be somber and honor our dead. Desert roads seem to be dangerous. How dare anyone come out with a sick asinine comment in the public newspaper when a person has tragically passed? I think we all have been briefly distracted or sunblinded or whatever or it could have been a medical reason. Only Jesus was there with this poor soul to know the truth. Now jesus is with the family and with the poor other driver. Please pray for the other driver and the family before you come to send hate and nonsense and racist and covid jokes. We all must be solemn and somber at the loss of a life because value for life is something every civilized group needs.
