Former D.A.’s husband to seek diversion program for assault counts

Former District Attorney Jackie Lacey’s husband David reportedly plans to seek permission next week to enter a diversion program and avoid jail time for pointing a gun at protesters at the couple’s home last year.

An attorney for Black Lives Matter co-founder Melina Abdullah told the Los Angeles Times that he had received notice of David Lacey’s request, which is set to be considered at a hearing on April 13. Under the terms of the program, David Lacey would need to complete a minimum of 18 months of community service and attend anger management and gun safety classes, The Times reported.

Abdullah’s attorney, Carl Douglas, told the The Times he and Abdullah planned to ask that Lacey also be prohibited from owning a firearm.

“He has sacrificed the privilege of carrying that firearm by the reckless decisions he made on March 2,” Douglas told The Times.

David Lacey is facing three misdemeanor counts of assault with a firearm in connection with the March 2, 2020, early morning run-in with demonstrators on the porch and outside the couple’s home. The protest occurred before sunrise. David Lacey was seen on video pointing (see below) a handgun out the front door of the couple’s home and ordering Black Lives Matter protesters to leave the property.

Abdullah insisted Lacey’s house was not off-limits given that the district attorney is a public official and BLM has never threatened her. On Twitter, Abdullah alleged David Lacey “pointed a gun at my chest and said ‘I will shoot you.”‘ The former D.A., who was campaigning for a third term at the time, said her husband acted in fear for her safety after months of harassment, including an earlier death threat, but also apologized on his behalf.

The couple is also facing a civil suit brought by Abdullah and protesters Dahlia Ferlito and Justin Marks. The suit alleges civil rights violations, assault and battery and negligence. Last month, a judge dismissed the plaintiffs’ claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress, but denied a motion to dismiss civil rights allegations.

The criminal charges are being prosecuted by the Attorney General.

He would probably still be alive if he just ran and called the cops and Zimmy would have been sent to to jail where he can promote his chivalry and bravery to a bunch of real bad hombres… Unarmed. The problem is that scumbags who were already scumbags are using his name as an excuse to be bigger scumbags and try to put normal American civilian life on lockdown. Nevertheless an AR is a good idea for protection but its useless without a useful brain with common core knowledge. Zimmy should have just identified him and keep tabs on him to produce a solid case in court.

          • Lets be honest, any group of race that is up to no good that senses weakness is gonna tread further until someone says enough is enough which is exactly what Mrs. Laceys husband did. Zimmerbutt traveled outside of the coverage area and gave a young guy a reason to fear and respond. Here’s the funny part, if Zimmerbuttheadhole followed him into a group of fully armed Treyvons(locked and loaded) he would have dropped to his knees and begged for his life like a Mexican begging I.C.E. not to be deported. What if Treyvon stood his ground because he saw an ugly pedo looking DARVO looking Mexican with a gun, dressed like M.J. from thriller, but now obviously can’t testify in court? Who really stood who’s ground to the bitter end? Now I’m not excusing Trey Trey with his skittles “If” he was up to no good. But Zimmdimm should’ve listened to the police and not confront him. So the police was actually looking out for both of them. A point of mine is, why cant BLM go for Zummydummy with force instead of looting and destroying places that have nothing to do with it? Why can’t they protest at his home and throw rocks through his windows. Better Yet, why dont they have a fair retrial with every bit of detail laid on the table? I would imagine the BLT movement has generated enough fundage to hire a darn good investigator or few. Unless they done spent it on Cadillac Escalades and malt liquor while griefing R.I.P. to someone theyve never actually met.

        • My take is that if Martin had waited for the cops (that Zimmerman had already called), nothing would have happened. There’s no way that fat blob was able to chase Martin down or pose any kind of physical threat. There was an altercation because Martin wanted one, period.

          However, if the cops had arrived when the “fight” was in progress; physical evidence says that Martin was on top, doing a ground & pound on Zimmerman. Martin would have been arrested for assault. According to the cops’ report, Zimmerman had committed NO crime prior to shooting Martin.
