Los Angeles County is offering up to two new Energy Star glass door refrigerators at no cost to eligible small businesses through its Healthy Stores Refrigeration Program, Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis announced.
The program seeks to promote healthy food options in low-income communities, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support to small businesses regarding energy efficiency upgrades and the benefits of offering healthy food options, Solis said.
The program also gives store owners the opportunity to save on energy usage and utility bills and provide non-processed or minimally processed food options for the communities they serve, Solis said.
“Los Angeles County residents, especially those with limited transportation, depend on their local community grocers for everyday needs, making these stores critical to the health of a community,” Solis said. “Through the Healthy Stores Refrigeration Program, the county is committed to making healthy food accessible in these local stores by providing free, upgraded refrigeration equipment so store owners can stock them with healthy, nutritious food options.”
The program is funded by a $1.4 million grant awarded by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Sixteen stores have participated in the program, Solis said. HSRP refrigerators will be placed in 80 stores throughout Los Angeles County by 2022, according to Solis.

You gotta be kidding says
LOL. It’s hard to understand how anyone can generate all these posts and replies and argue so vociferously over this silly subject when there are so many more important things to think about, as in how Sleepy Joe is ruining our country.
Tim Scott says
Approval rating 20 points higher than Trump ever reached. Any grounds for this BS about “ruining”?

Healthy food options such as fast food, junk food, and sugary drinks for those that are already out of shape and don’t exercise.
Beecee says
We crushed your business and livelyhood with unnecessary lockdowns….
Here’s a little fridge….
Tim Scott says
Yeah we could have put business first like the GOP led government of South Dakota did.
Their mortality rate applied to California’s population would only have killed an extra 30,000 people. Small price to pay right Beecee? Saving 30,000 lives is totally unnecessary to you as long as yours isn’t one of them I suppose.
Beecee says
Now we are comparing South Dakota to California.
What’s next, let’s compare USA to Antartica….

Abort Beecee, I’ve seen your comments recently and Tim’s for years. Trust me, u are in way over your head. Get out now. Lol.
Tim Scott says
Man when I read this I thought it was hilarious, but now it’s kinda sad. At other places I hang out I have said that my local news site is kind of like a bunny slope, but at least there were occasionally right wingers that could make an argument.
Not even 24 hours and we are at:
Tim: y’know openly advocating for “I wish covid had killed tens of thousands more people” is a bad look, you probably wanna check yourself…
Beecee: well, uh…but you wear T shirts!!! #winning
I mean, bunny slope, sure, but this would be a loser if she confronting the Ski Nebraska downhill team. What happened around here?
Beecee says
Wait a minute….
225 deaths out of 100,000 people.
I’m sure they were all young and healthy

That works out to a touch more then a 99.75% survival rate in South Dakota….
And much better in California.
Do you believe that it was right to shut down for a year over these survival rate #’s
But hey, here’s a little fridge for your troubles…
Tim Scott says
It’s the internet Beecee…anyone with a brain can look up the mortality rates. VERY simple math will confirm that the “survival rate” was actually lower in South Dakota and confirm for themselves that you are just making stuff up.
I might talk a little more here and make you look dumber, but only if you stop doing it so well yourself.
Word to the wise…look up the actual data before you try to keep arguing, because if you make me post again I will link the data for anyone that still doubts that you are talking out your butt here.

What part of this do you not understand?
Tim Scott says
That same simple math will confirm that the difference in mortality rates, that you think is “meaningless,” works out to be about THIRTY THOUSAND DEAD PEOPLE. Please confirm in exact language that you would prefer THIRTY THOUSAND more dead people Beecee. Don’t hedge, just say it straight out. You would rather kill THIRTY THOUSAND PEOPLE.
I mean, that’s the Republican way, right?
Tim Scott says
Well at least you admit your bloodthirstiness. I mean, I’m not really shy, but even I would hesitate at advocating for thirty thousand additional deaths. You are a very serious piece of work.
Tim Scott says
I picture you saying…”Only thirty thousand additional deaths? Come on Republicans, we ban do better!!!”
Funny thing is, I think both pictures fit facts as given, but only the picture of you is going to cause widespread disgust.
Just for the record, I do have an Avengers T shirt…but they are all dogs and called the AvengeFurs. My sister got it for me and it is hella cute.
Do you have a T shirt celebrating the tens of thousands of additional lives that Republican policies nationwide cost us during the pandemic?
Tim Scott says
Well, people who advocate that the deaths of thirty thousand people to save some bucks is a small price to pay aren’t generally described as “good.” They are generally rated “evil scumbag” I am pretty sure.
Claire says
These are businesses that have survived. Businesses large and small have filed for bankruptcy in every state due to this pandemic, not just in California. supplying Energy Star glass door refrigerators to small businesses at no cost is a good thing.
Tim Scott says
Republicans are totally committed to zero sum Claire. They see anyone other than themselves getting ANY assistance in terms of “I am being slighted” and that makes them cry.
