PALMDALE – Local authorities on Tuesday announced the Antelope Valley Traffic Task Force (AVTTF), a collaboration between the Palmdale and Lancaster sheriff’s stations and the local California Highway Patrol to conduct speed enforcement operations throughout the Antelope Valley.
“In recent years there has been a substantial increase in the number of fatal and serious injury traffic collisions within and surrounding the Antelope Valley in which speed was a main factor. The speed involved in a collision is directly related to the extent of injury the parties endure,” according to a news release announcing the AVTTF.
The AVTTF recently conducted its inaugural speed enforcement operation on Avenue M near Challenger Way in Lancaster. The two-and-a-half operation resulted in 85 speeding citations, one verbal warning, one impounded vehicle, and one misdemeanor arrest.
“The AVTTF will be conducting similar enforcement efforts throughout the Antelope Valley in the future and would like to remind motorists to slow down, be attentive, and drive defensive and sober so that you may avoid a collision,” officials said in the news release.
For more information on the AVTTF, contact the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station at 661-272-2400.

Finally, since moving to the AV, one thing that is so obvious is just how insanely fast people drive up here.
Driving Miss Daisy says
And that’s just in the parking lots.
In other news, have you noticed how Americans rushed out to buy big gas guzzling trucks the last couple years? The ones with the spotless beds and fancy rims. They will be going cheap when the gas prices rise.

Lake Los Angeles is a speedway all day & night from 170th to Palmdale Blvd ..including the neighborhoods. I fear their going to slam into a house or hit a pedestrian walking.
Tim Scott says
Lake LA is technically rural. It doesn’t have ‘neighborhoods.’ If you don’t like the rural lifestyle what compelled you to move to Lake LA?
Robert says
The way people are driving is crazy, dangerous and unnecessary, part of the cause I believe is no traffic control cars regularly cruising and seen giving citations, if there is none of that people get crazier without fear. We need more enforcement for sure.
Oh Jeez says
Yes, fear and intimidation is the right methodology to law enforcement. *rolls eyes

Going 80 mph on cruise control, down the 14 freeway, I get passed like I’m standing still. Brave tailgaters, their brains all empty and stupid, creeping two feet off my bumper, I won’t be alive much longer if I have to drive that freeway.
Oh Jeez says
Dramatic much? Over 170k people travel the 14 daily. You will be fine.
GP says
It’s about time , it blows my thinking that officials are finally figuring it out.. DUH
cities also needs to change speed limits down to 45mph and monitor them. Drivers are not being watched and drivers know it, no consequences and drive at 10 to 30 mph Over speed limits 70 to 90 miles mph
They need to come and sit off Rancho vista blvd from 15 th st west to AVE N they could write unlimited tickets BUT it needs to be more than a few times per month
SO says
I totally agree with you GP
Monitor roads to change deep rooted mad driving habits
Tofi says
Good. Too many people around here drive like they’re mentally disabled
J .P. says
I see people roll thru stop lights at 50th st West and J all the time.
Oh Jeez says
Go get em tiger! Officer Doofy on patrol!
Jennifer says
Wild-wild-west up here in the Antelope Valley, disproportionately high ratio of lawless unlicensed-uninsured motorists, who’ve got no business driving our roads, problems at America’s southern border exacerbates our plight. I would support a ballot measure mandating automatic vehicle confiscation from all illegal immigrants.
Bethie says
Things are so bad, AV motorists can’t be bothered stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks.
Joshua says
I thought palmdale’s community was sick and tired of the sheriffs department profiling and racially attacking our youth and making them feel less likely to turn to our local PD for help if ever needed. I thought the Av was done on sheriffs contract renewal
FOP says
No Tim,
With an uprise of crime in the 40%+ range we actually need police….
What a concept
Tim Scott says
This task force will post up on streets where the speed limit is lower than the basically safe speed that mostly everyone travels so they can reel in endless fish and generate a windfall of fines. There is zero chance that the current city governments have any interest in actual safety, just a bump in the taxation of the poor.
FatWhiteBob says
Dang… I agree with Tim Scott
Task Force says
Nothing mentioned about distracted driver violations…
Joe says
That also! Too many people on phones!
Bob says
These specific operations are great but they need to have deputies driving around or targeting specific intersections. So many are running lights. I was driving across H near fairgrounds, which is under repair right now. Guy in white car was purposely running all the red lights. He then went into Copper Square. BS! Endangering everyone, including road crews. So many don’t even have insurance. Something needs to be done.
Eric says
Just a tip, these units work bankers hours. After 5pm speed all you want. Also weekends and holidays are open too.
Joe says
Good point! Not much will change as more n more people hate police and want to defund them.
The only change will be increases in insurance premiums due to all the death and damage from speeding and DUI!
Matt says
People need to stick in the slow lanes with driving 50 on the freeway what gets me is everyone brakes when they turning and all ways on they phone. So shut ur mouths and stay at home with the slow driving take a bus
