PALMDALE – The city of Palmdale, in partnership with Dunn-Edwards Paints, will host its second Peace Together community public art installation on Saturday, June 5, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Best of the West Softball Complex at Marie Kerr Park, located at 2723 Rancho Vista Boulevard.
Volunteers will paint, or “peace together”— a play on words on puzzle pieces — an interlocking rainbow pattern on selected cross walks at Best of the West. Brushes, buckets, rollers, tape, t-shirts, and hats will be provided to the participants. All the volunteer positions have been filled.
“Our first Peace Together installation at Dry Town was a huge success,” said Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer. “Two dozen community volunteers gathered at the crosswalks between DryTown Water Park and Oasis Recreation Center on a beautiful weekend in April to bring visual harmony to the location.”
“Everyone enjoyed working on the first project so much that our team couldn’t wait to collaborate with the community on another public art project,” said City Manager J.J. Murphy. “These are the kinds of little things that add big value to a community.”
“The crosswalks in front of Best of the West Softball Complex have the same grid pattern as DryTown, so it provides a perfect template for volunteers to paint a masterpiece that will brighten the visits of thousands of people, many of whom travel to Palmdale from outside the Antelope Valley for softball tournaments,” said District 2 Councilmember Richard Loa.
