LANCASTER – The California Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint this Saturday, June 26, at an undisclosed location in the Antelope Valley area.
The primary objective of the checkpoint is to ensure the safe passage of motorists on the highways by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of DUI-related accidents and/or prior arrests. Statistics show unlicensed drivers are much more likely to become involved in a fatal traffic collision than licensed drivers, according to the CHP.
“A sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint is an effective and proven tool to deter driving under the influence and remove unlicensed drivers from local highways. They also help raise public awareness of driver safety issues while augmenting regular patrol operations,” CHP officials said in a news release.
The checkpoint will be staffed by uniformed officers from the CHP who are trained in detecting alcohol and drug impaired drivers, as well as members of the Antelope Valley CHP senior volunteer program for administrative duties. Officers will be equipped with hand-held blood alcohol testing devices, which provide an accurate indication of alcoholic beverage consumption.
Traffic permitting, all drivers will be screened as they pass through the checkpoint. Drivers who have been drinking, or who exhibit signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, will be detained for further evaluation and field testing. Drivers who are determined to be under the influence will be physically arrested and their vehicles towed away. Any suspended or unlicensed driver passing through the checkpoint will be cited and their vehicles may be impounded.

Its illegal to do such things!! You cannot stop anyone from the freedom of travel unless they break the law and have a reason to pull someone over. Stopping innocent people and harrasing them for such things leaves room for lawsuit. Whoever goes along with and enforces these unlawful dui/license check is breaking the law and can be held accountable. This is not nazi Germany an we do not need to show our papers. We are citizens a d we have rights that cannot be infringed upon for policies made not true law!! Class action lawsuit!!

Unless you ever applied for or retain a state issued DL or Identification Card. Then you forfeit the right to travel the public highways, byways & interstates unmolested for the purposes of personal business or pleasure.

Think twice before posting, messaging, or tweeting locations of these checkpoints. The life you save by protecting people who make these life choices… May be the life of you, or someone you love when the drunk driver that evaded that police interaction, gets drunk and drives again and hits someone head on. That someone could be you. It’s just common sense.

You sound like the kind of person that wants to punish people for the direct results of other people’s specific choices

It’s not just for drunk drivers it’s for people that need to get can’t get drivers license and need to get around what do you expect them to walk around in this heat. If people are drunk or high I don’t think they will have time to be looking for dui check points
