LANCASTER – A pedestrian killed July 17 by a hit-and-run driver in Lancaster has been identified.
He was 58-year-old Salem Shihady, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal collision was reported around 9:38 p.m. Saturday, July 17, near the intersection of Date Avenue and Avenue J, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
Shihady was crossing Avenue J in the southbound direction when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Avenue J, according to the news release. Shihady was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver fled the scene, but the sheriff’s department later received a call telling them where to find the vehicle involved in the crash, and it was recovered by investigators, sheriff’s officials said.
A suspect was not in custody, according to the latest update from the sheriff’s department. No further information on the crash was immediately available.
