LANCASTER – Three people were wounded and a gunman was found dead Monday morning in a shooting at a Lancaster restaurant, authorities said.
The shooting was reported around 12:12 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, on the 42100 block of Sierra Highway in Lancaster, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
A source at the scene said the incident started with an altercation inside the Culichi Town restaurant and that a man pulled out a gun and got into a shootout with a security guard. LASD would not confirm this information.
FOX11 reported the sheriff’s SWAT team rescued a wounded woman who apparently was a hostage inside the restaurant and found the suspect dead inside.
“The three victims (two male adults and one female adult) are being treated at a local hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time,” according to the sheriff’s news release.
“The male adult suspect was pronounced dead at the scene,” the sheriff’s news release states.
Sheriff’s officials did not release any additional details on the incident.

UPDATE: NEW DETAILS RELEASED
According to an updated LASD news release issued Monday afternoon, deputies responded to the restaurant after receiving reports from a caller who said a person inside the restaurant had shot at security guards and was possibly still inside the building.
Arriving deputies found a 44-year-old security guard suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body and an employee suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound in front of the restaurant. The security guard told deputies the shooter was still inside, and deputies attempted to communicate with the suspect to no avail. LASD Special Enforcement Bureau units were called and made contact with a 43-year-old woman who had suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound and was still inside the building. The SEB units entered and found the 51-year-old gunman suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body and the wounded woman inside the restaurant.
The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene. The three victims were taken to a hospital. The employee and the woman were treated for their wounds, while the security guard was reported to be in serious condition. Read the updated LASD news release here.

Shooting inside a restaurant is not good for business. Hopefully it was the bullet of the security guard that brought down the assailant and not him turning his own weapon on himself. We do need to feel safe and know that hiring of security is not done in vain but was the security officer on duty at this location on a regular schedule or was he off-duty at the time? Does this raise any question to the atmosphere of this location? If there was no guard would this altercation have ensued? There is a legal obligation to investigate all circumstances and to make sure this was in fact unforeseeable. Security officers violate their authority too so let’s make sure we have a hero of the day and not another failure of justice. If you are in the right and your success was in protecting and serving our community then you are a hero. If you are free of any guilt of a potential crime then please make sure you have the integrity to stand up for yourself and hope you return to the force rocksteady. Semper Fidelis

There is a significant question about why a restaurant needs armed security in the first place, though open after midnight on a Sunday night suggests they are more of a bar than a restaurant. Armed security is a huge expense and a huge potential for liability.

Lancaster crime is a testament to the failed leadership of the Republican City Council and Mayor that all live on the Westside of our City. We need districts for election of our leaders.
