The association representing more than 800 deputy district attorneys in Los Angeles County announced Friday it will hold a membership vote on whether to endorse the latest effort to recall District Attorney George Gascón.
The Association of Deputy District Attorneys “believes that this important question must be answered in a fair, transparent and democratic manner,” the group said in a statement. “In that spirit, we have given the district attorney the opportunity to speak directly to the membership and answer their questions.”
In a letter sent Friday to Gascón, the association’s president, Michele Hanisee, wrote that many of the group’s members have asked the association to take a position on an “unprecedented and pressing public question: whether to recall and replace you as Los Angeles County’s District Attorney.”
“This was not the first time members made this plea,” Hanisee wrote. “Last year, a similar request was made. We took no action … It would be inappropriate for our seven-person Board of Directors (which includes six registered Democrats and one decline-to-state voter) to speak for so many on such an important nonpartisan question. We recognize that our members are uniquely qualified to judge your performance and competency as district attorney.”
The letter invites Gascón to attend a virtual town hall meeting between Feb. 16 and Feb. 19 to give him the opportunity to speak on his own behalf. A new effort was launched last December to oust Gascón from office within months of a similar recall campaign falling short, with organizers required to collect 566,857 signatures from registered voters in Los Angeles County by July 6.
The city councils of more than 30 cities in the county have issued “no confidence” votes involving Gascón. Last September, organizers of the prior recall attempt said the effort was hampered by COVID-19 pandemic health mandates, along with a “premature start” and vowed to re-launch their bid to recall the county’s top prosecutor, who was sworn into office in December 2020.
Despite the failure of the original effort, organizers said then that they remained committed to recalling Gascón, who has come under fire from critics for a progressive agenda that has included directives against seeking the death penalty and dropping sentence-enhancing allegations in some criminal cases.
Gascón has repeatedly defended his policies, saying his stances were well-known during his campaign and his election signified public support of his agenda. The Association of Deputy District Attorneys filed a lawsuit in December 2020 challenging Gascón’s directives to eliminate three-strikes allegations and some sentencing enhancements, alleging that the moves are “unlawful.”
A judge ruled mostly in favor of the association last February, but subsequently put the case on hold while Gascón appeals. A trial date is scheduled to be set for the case in April.

Lol whoever is doing this is awesome. Keep it up , I only come to this site to see the [removed] These two pettifoggers talk about. It’s like one of them can use the English language and spell. The other one is almost monosyllabic. Both lack common sense and are dangerously unobservant.
Tim Scott says
LOL…someone learned an obsolete word! Congratulations. It would be good to see that one make a comeback, but you and your zero credibility and lack of charisma aren’t likely to accomplish that.
Tim Scott says
Gascon is a joy boy!!!
Tim Scott says
So…what is it like, knowing that you have so little credibility that the only way you can get attention is pretending to be someone you hate?
William says
Common Tim you know gascon is a hunk.
You know how much we love a silver bear.
Tim Scott says
Moved on to pretending to be William I see. Still pretending to be someone you hate. Better than being yourself I guess.
William says
Oh shush you silly,
You better be ready at 8 for our date at the sizzler.
Then afterwards we can dip into some hunter biden stash and stay up all night trolling the repubs ; )

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I am flattered that someone wants to be me. It’s a big step up from where they currently are.
That’s infinitely preferable to pretending to be them. The horror. The horror.
Consider that this person would just as soon be a fake elector in some orange state.
To quote Elaine Benis, “Fake. Fake. Fake. Fake.”.
The faker in this case is likely a “Trumpkin”, a new term thanks to Republican Mona Charen. The sane Republicans deliver some of the best takedowns of Trump and his crazy cult followers.
See Liz Cheney and Adam Kinsinger. They make Democratic criticisms seem like love letters.

In all of your ramblings there are about two people who ever agree with you. Do you even realize that. Your a pettifogger. Bet you have to google that one mr intellect with no common sense. Your a loser and you know it.
Tim Scott says
LOL…so you measure yourself by having a deecee’s agreement? That looks like the loser here.
Stinger says
I’m sorry. I don’t normally go after posters here for grammar issues, as they tend to be besides the point, but I find it deliciously poignant to read this one…
So, let me see if I have this right. This guy posts with an arcane word to show how superior his skills with the English language are than poor ol’ Tim, but consistently fails to use the correct word for “You’re”…
Few people are so transparent and self evident in their writings.
Tim Scott says
They measure their own worth by impressing deecees, so I’m sure they consider this a successful outing. That was hilarious though.
Beeecee says
“That was hilarious though”
Tanks!
Tim Scott says
The thing that was hilarious was Stinger’s observations about the deecee, not the deecee itself.
