The Los Angeles International Airport’s Economy Parking facility was named the “Innovative Facility of the Year” by the National Parking Association, airport officials announced Monday.
The $294 million facility, which opened in 2021, features 4,300 parking spaces and 275 electric vehicle chargers over 1.7 million square feet.
The award was presented to ABM Industries, which developed the facility, at the National Parking Association’s Annual Conference and Expo.
The Economy Parking facility features a “smart parking system,” which allows customers to book a parking spot in advance. It is part of a $5.5 billion modernization program at LAX, which includes an Automated People Mover that will carry passengers into the terminal area.
“For LAWA, the solution enhances our parking capacity and creates new revenue opportunities,” said Justin Erbacci, CEO of Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that runs the airport. “Congratulations to the ABM team and all our LAWA team members who helped implement our smart parking program.”
Scott Hutchison, senior vice president at ABM, said the company’s collaboration with LAWA “set a new standard” and that they were thrilled to receive the “parking industry’s highest honor.”
“Our work with LAWA is a great example of how the right technology solution can provide an unparalleled parking experience, while optimizing operational efficiencies and maximizing revenue potential,” Hutchison said.
