Following a weekend in which antisemitic banners were draped on an overpass of the San Diego (405) Freeway in Westchester and some 25 flyers blaming gun control on Jewish people were disbursed in Beverly Hills, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statement of condemnation.
“This weekend’s public display of antisemitic hate is another wake-up call to all of us that we must remain vigilant to protect our values and freedoms as Californians,” Newsom said.
“The former president gave a platform to extremists spewing hate speech and we continue to see the dangerous consequences — from the insurrection on January 6th to Nazi salutes and anti-Jewish signs over the 405 freeway here in California. Our state is committed to protecting our diverse communities and will continue to lead the fight against racial, ethnic, and religious hate wherever it rears its ugly head,” Newsom continued.
Beverly Hills police continued to investigate disbursement Saturday night into Sunday morning of about 25 flyers in the north end of the city that blame gun control on Jewish people, authorities said.
The flyers were left in an area north of Sunset Boulevard and west of Benedict Canyon Drive, according to Sgt. Scott Dibble of the Beverly Hills Police Department. Dibble said the disbursement posed no “significant threat” and called the effort “very minimal.”
The report came one day after seven activists with the anti-Jewish group Goyim Defense League draped signs on the San Diego Freeway overpass at La Tijera Boulevard that read, “Kanye is right about the Jews” and “Honk if you know.”
Several of the activists were photographed making “Heil Hitler” salutes on the overpass on Saturday. The sign is a reference to recent antisemitic statements made by rapper Ye — also known as Kanye West.
“Outrageous effort to fan the flames of antisemitism gripping the nation. This group is known for espousing vitriolic #antisemitism and white supremacist ideology. Hate has no place in Los Angeles or elsewhere and these attempts will not divide us,” the Anti-Defamation League of Southern California tweeted Sunday.
It was unclear if the same group was responsible for the flyers in Beverly Hills. No contact information for the Goyim Defense League could be found.
My neighbors and I woke up to this antisemitic flyer at our homes. This antisemitic banner was on the 405. Antisemitic flyers were left on cars last week at the Grove and in Pico Robertson. The silence of the press and our elected officials and other candidates is deafening. pic.twitter.com/7pEnZVU3GG

I intend to start listening to his music with a Maga hat on while mowing my front lawn just to see who would dare violate my rights here in this miserable [removed] of a town. Truth be told, I don’t need Ye or MAGA to make it happen, but it’ll sure as hell ad some excitement. There isn’t anything racist about truths. Especially when it’s about people that need change for the better. It would be safe to say that Hitler was a racist. But Ye?
Tim Scott says
If you are really trying to bait an attack you should bait the MAGAts instead of pretending to be one. MAGAts are far closer to descending into threats and violent thuggery than anyone else. But don’t do it while mowing your lawn. MAGAts are cowardly and more likely to do something like vandalize your house than they are to actually confront you. That’s why they are so enamored with the anonymous internet.
Alby says
I’m more likely to be mugged by a Semite, and that’s aside from the thuggery of inflation.
Tim Scott says
Well, in your case sure. I mean MAGAts aren’t going to attack one of their own.
As to “the thuggery of inflation,” inflation is easy to get rid of. We just need to destroy a few hundred thousand jobs and throw some people into unemployment. So tell me Alby, who would you like to see lose their job so that you could save a buck here and there? Go ahead, just pick a hundred thousand or so that you would like to see suffer.
Alby says
Shouldn’t those few hundred thousand jobs generate tax revenue rather than adding to the deficit. Those jobs are most likely unessential. Its like paying monkies to play with blocks and stay entertained. If its not generating tax revenue then its not a real job. Unfortunately not all essential jobs are meant to be entertaining. Sure, I dont mind saving a hard earned dollar or few and I dont believe in forced charity. If those few hundy thousy stuck to an essential job then eventually more tax revenue will generate and help pay off the deficit sooner to make this country great again and then they just might be able to afford to entertain themselves however the heck. The others that work hard to make this country debt free and great again are the ones that really suffer.
