PALMDALE – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass‘ office Thursday denied that the city is planning to relocate homeless people to a “village” in the Palmdale area, deflecting concerns by Palmdale City Council members who adopted a resolution opposing any such move by Los Angeles as part of Bass’ emergency declaration on homelessness.
Zach Seidl of Bass’ office called the Palmdale resolution adopted Wednesday night “baseless and misleading.”
“The mayor’s homelessness plan does not and will not involve moving people to Palmdale,” Seidl said. “Her strategy focuses on solutions — not moving or hiding the crisis, but helping people in encampments move into nearby motels and hotels and bringing to bear the services and resources necessary to bring people inside for good.”
The Palmdale City Council voted unanimously Wednesday, Jan. 11 on a resolution opposing the possible creation of a “homeless village” in the area.
“It’s very clear, very concise. It makes the point known without declaring war on the city of Los Angeles,” City Councilwoman Andrea Alarcon said at the meeting on Wednesday.
The dispute apparently stemmed from an interview Bass gave to the Los Angeles Times during her mayoral campaign last year, during which Palmdale officials say she suggested the possibility of creating a “village” for homeless people on land near Palmdale. According to the Antelope Valley Press, Bass later spoke to a Palmdale council member and disavowed any plans to move homeless people to the area.
But Palmdale council members still requested a resolution to formally oppose the idea, and they approved it Wednesday. The Lancaster City Council took a similar vote in December to oppose “an incursion of homeless people” from Los Angeles, the AV Press reported.
One of the first actions Bass took when she became mayor of Los Angeles was to declare an emergency on homelessness. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors followed by declaring an emergency on homelessness on Tuesday at its meeting. Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath said the decision by the board honors the November mandate from L.A. County voters to, “lead with urgency and transparency to address the homeless crisis in every neighborhood.”
The most recent point-in-time homeless count in 2022 revealed more than 69,000 in Los Angeles County.

The Palmdale City Council should worry more about fending off Rex and his minions. They have already gotten them to send over $7 million dollars from Palmdale’s coffers to Lancaster. The people of Palmdale are being screwed over by this Rex owned council.
Janis Hewet says
We can all thank Steve Hufblower for making the deal that brought Lancaster’s takeover. This guy thought he was somehow smarter than Rex and Marvin but got his city taken over instead. They used him and then promptly supported the move to remove his position. hat a ego manic Hufblower turned out to be. Sad day in Palmdale.

Rex continues to get elected for many reasons. He has a lot of money and power over people and businesses. If you want to stay working, you toe the line. Many people benefit from the good old boy network so they vote for him. Lancaster holds elections in off presidential years and in April. They set up voting booths at places like Lancaster Baptist where the ‘faithful’ cast their votes for the man who claims to be builidng a ‘christian’ community. There are no voting districts in Lancaster so people on the eastside continue to be left out and are apathetic. The Republicans think Rex is one of them so they blindly vote for him. When you add to it voter apathy overall and the fact that Lancaster voters aren’t the brightest, you have the mess that is Lancaster. He is the king of all grifters.
EXAV says
I know this is Palmdale, but how does Rex Parris continue getting elected/reelected? What a mess AV has become with this obvious grifter in office the entire time.
Grifter says
There is a direct correlation between the decline of the AV and the rise of Rex as mayor. He is one of the few grifters who have accumulated immense wealth while the the hard working people of Lancaster suffer.

Rex Derangement Syndrome is at epidemic proportions in the Antelope Valley
Get a life fools
American Psychiatric Association says
You’re so right. Rex is deranged just like Trump. That is the syndrome he suffers from.
It’s so typical that Republicans have used the “Derangement Syndrome” backward. It describes the person not those who oppose him.
They were also the ones that called themselve “Teabaggers”.
They just can’t win.
It’s a mental thing.

There’s a homeless village off the 14 near Ave H. That’s what happens when a mayor takes a million dollars from the county for a homeless shelter then closes it down, then spends $31 million on a no bid pay-to-stay 141 bed facility built by his political pal rather than fixing up an existing building on Ave I that would house 700. The fact that we have homeless in Lancaster isn’t Paris’s fault but his response has been horrible and he is to blame.
Iconoclast says
The city of Lancaster lost its way years ago when Catholic Charities pulled away from managing the shelter on Yucca. Rather than let one of the missions in LA come up and run the shelter and take the residents back down to LA where there were extensive facilities to help them, at that time, the city let Grace Resources run the shelter and they did well until the city withdrew support. Parris and his buddy put up the travesty on H and the shelter downtown was turned into a community center. Something is rotten in Lancaster.
East Lancaster says
This is what you get when a council is bought and paid for by the mayor of Lancaster and the Fern Street Mafia. More deflection from the real issues and looking for someone to blame for his failures.
Homeless no more says
Of course Wrecks’ comments are baseless and misleading. 99% of what comes out of his mouth or what he writes is misleading. He’s the most deceptive and dishonest politician in the AV. He had his puppets in Palmdale push his lies so that people will ignore the huge gang problem he has in East Lancaster. He wants to scapegoat the homeless instead of having to deal with his crime issues. Does anyone know what he did with the million dollars that the county gave him for the shelter before he closed it down?
Tim Scott says
Wreck must have called his minions and said “hey don’t leave Lancaster looking stupid alone, I pay you to make Palmdale look stupid too.”
Claire says
Nothing is done by the Palmdale city council without the approval or direction of Wreck.
Mike Antonihitch says
I noticed that the Mayor of Palmdale Laura Bettencourt was not supported by our County Supervisor Kathleen Barger. Both are Republican but Barger backed Democrat and union leader Gomez. Funny how Gomez being the Mayor Emeritus of Lancaster supported by Rex lost in a big way. Barger lost support for her shameless act of cowardness. She folded!!
GOB says
Wrecks probably instructed her to support Gomez. Wrecks donates to and controls most candidates in the area, with Michael Rives and Laura Bettencort being the exceptions. Wrecks dumped Hoffbower after he used him to dump Ledford. The reign of the good old boys continues.
