PALMDALE – A man who “advanced toward deputies with an edged weapon” was shot to death in Palmdale Friday night, authorities said.
The deputy-involved shooting happened around 10:21 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in the 37000 block of Oxford Drive, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“Palmdale Station deputies responded to a residence regarding a domestic violence call. During their investigation, the suspect advanced toward deputies with an edged weapon and a deputy involved shooting occurred,” the news release states.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, and the edged weapon was recovered at the scene, sheriff’s officials said. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
No further information on the incident was released as of Saturday morning.
Anyone with information about this shooting is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or to lacrimestoppers.org.

while approaching the deputies, the unnamed suspect is rumored to have said, mockingly, “buhh, durr, i’m a white guy!” while pantomiming not being shot by cops
the pantomime act failed to convince officers to stand down and resolve the domestic violence incident peacefully
Augie Möbius says
One thing for sure.
The weapon was not a ball, globe, or spheroidal object.
These are the only things in Euclidian 3D space that do not have an edge.
Nearly every other object can or will have a definable edge.
So, when approaching police from now on, you might safely approach with spheroidal object…all others and you probably are gonna get shot.

AV shootings need to be kept at an absolute minimum. We have liberals here.
Stinger says
Please explain your comment as it makes little sense. Your statement, “AV shootings need to be kept at an absolute minimum.” is fine, but the trailing sentence removes logic from the post.
Are you trying to say that only ‘liberals’ want police to use appropriate force for the situation at hand and ‘conservatives’ are okay with killing people in general?
Are you trying to say only ‘liberals’ believe it’s appropriate to look at every incident to determine if it could have been handled better and ‘conservatives’ don’t care about such things?
Stinger says
response delayed by unnecessary overmoderation…
Tim Scott says
Haven’t you noticed that conservatives have become a death cult? They revere killers who ‘get away with it,’ and routinely spout about how eager they are to catch some ‘lucky break’ and be able to exercise their firearms without legal consequences.
Jayden Hernandez says
That deputy had a right to defend himself from harm. Anyone would react the same when defending themselves.

“A man who “advanced toward deputies with an edged weapon” was shot to death…”
Suicide by cop.
AdolfOliverMuff says
If they rewarded the Deputies for de-escalating a situation like this with extra time-off or a significant bonus – you would see fewer Deputy involved fatal shootings.
As it is they suffer no consequences or reward or anything if they fire their weapon.
Bad policy leads to bad implementation.
The supervisors of these Deputies should be reprimanded along with the shooter.
I could do better than this – no excuses.

Yeah, and the Reality is the one time they don’t shoot SOMEONE THREATENING THEIR LIFE, they get stabbed or cut deeply and bleed out or lose a limb or sustain an injury that ruins their career. Why should any Officer or any citizen for that matter risk their life or limb to a MORON that is off their rocker enough to charge or attack someone armed and authorized to defend themselves? It takes one second or one wrong move to allow someone to close with you and stab you in the neck, heart, etc. You have no common sense at all if you believe anyone should risk that to try to save a person, Intoxicated or not. People like you make me sick. You have no understanding of reality. Being a tough guy thinking you can diffuse the situation isn’t real life and they have their own safety to think of above any criminal as I said.
use non lethal says
Thats what they signed up for and they knew it when they took that oath. The guy with an “edged” weapon could of been having a bad day. Domestic violence suspect he was neither guilty or innocent of this crime. An edged weapon could of been a ruler, could of been plastic, wood it ever says the edged weapon was a knife or a sword. Which tells you right away it was probably not something that was actually gonna hurt them other wise they would of described it perfectly and not left the description so vague. To serve and protect no where in there does it say at first movement with a edged weapon we shoot to kill. They have many, many non leathal weapons why are they not ever being used. What they often do should be considered murder……..plain and simple NON LETHAL WEAPONS WORK IN JAILS AND PRISONS WHY CANT OUR SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT USE IT? Stop killing everything you pose as a threat believe I know people out there deserve it. But with the ease that police killings are happening shows no regard for life or the people that are gonna be affected…….

Just Thinking Would It Be Better To Use Tranquilizers or maybe Bean Bags
Officers Safety Is A Priority
But When 911 Hangs Up On You or Puts You On Hold..
On Another Note Let Me Guess The Supposed Weapon Turns Out To Be A Cell Phone or Some Object Non Harmful But HEY Guns Are The Safer Bet To Use..
Just Thinking Would It Be Better To Use Tranquilizers or maybe Bean Bags

You’re disgusting. This man was a father of three and everything has an f*ing edge. You’re saying the cops are so lazy they couldn’t deescalate the situation and that they chose to do the easy thing and be trigger happy and kill my friend’s childrens’ father. The gang that took him from his family are trained to be this way. They shouldn’t be cops if they can’t handle the heat.
Nancy Vera says
Why not just tell the guy to drop the weapon then immediately taser him?
Coward cops probably shot him a dozen times.
L says
It was 1 shot. I am their neighbor. Cops aren’t cowards, they even performed cpr on the dirtbag.
L says
He was a husband and a father, not a dirt bag. He was unwell, but still a person who was loved.
L says
He was suffering and the people who loved him were trying desperately to help him. The very least you can do is be thoughtful of his wife, children, family, and friends who cared about him.
Bambi says
well if they were trying to help him by calling the coward police they really screwed up that intervention
AdolfOliverMuff says
Your MAGA ignorance is showing. Fix that.
Loampounder says
I was not there, but I am sure that police told the man to drop the weapon; that is SOP and the human reaction. As for tasers, they do not always work, and the man had a weapon that could do more damage than a taser.
Instead, why not ask why the man did not stop and drop the weapon? Why did he advance on police officers with a weapon?
Tim Scott says
I think it is a fair question to ask why multiple cops in body armor can’t think of any way to stop a guy with a steak knife that doesn’t involve killing. Cops have it in their bully heads that backing off is not an option, and before they even consider the alternatives they just take the opportunity for a “good shoot” to give them a kill they can boast about.
William says
My neighbor’s son is LAPD. I have to ask him why after so many unarmed Black men have been killed by cops and some have gone to jail, they can’t self-correct?
Definition of insanity goes here.
Dr Feelgood says
Never call law enforcement on family unless you want to up the odds of your family member dying.
AdolfOliverMuff says
The jails are filling up with trigger-happy cops. Maybe they should reward them for NOT drawing their weapon. Would THAT work?
Mike says
It’s not a fair question Tim. Body armor issued to police are not able to withstand a slash or stab from an edged weapon. A knife will go through a “bullet proof” vest like butter. The torso is not the only vital area. Major arteries in your neck, arms, and legs can be easily slashed, leaving you only seconds to live before you bleed out.
Do an internet search for “ Laurie Tagaloa, Brisbane Australia stabbing.” This guy got stabbed in the neck by a lightning fast strike and bled out within 30 seconds. He did not make it.
A person with a knife can close the distance on a person armed with a gun within 21 feet before the armed person is able to process the threat, draw his weapon, acquire sights, and fire one round.
Lastly, it is LITERALLY written into Penal Code Section 835 that police need not retreat or desist from a threatening or resistive person when making a lawful arrest.
It’s time you start playing by the rules jail bird Tim.
Tim Scott says
No, it’s time we imposed some rules on cops other than “yeah, as long as it is in any way justifiable go ahead and ‘solve the problem’ by shooting someone.” If “21 feet” is the issue GET THIRTY FEET AWAY. That’s called de-escalation, and if they ‘aren’t required’ to de-escalate situations maybe we should look for cops who would be inclined to instead of the trophy hunters who you slaver over.
Jo says
Still stuck with that felons brain eh beta?
Tim Scott says
It’s the brain I was issued and it has served me well, but I have never been a fish.
Tim Scott says
No, you wouldn’t.
Giving me a license to kill without consequences would be a serious error on your part.
Tim Scott says
Lame code, by the way. If you wanna use racist slurs, man up and just post them.
AdolfOliverMuff says
They claim he advanced. Is there body-cam footage to support that? Was there a less violent way to remedy this situation?
You have no understanding or compassion for anyone suffering from a mental illness. Just shoot them all – right?
My guess is you’re a Trumper.
Rick Williams says
If all the cowards tasered the man at the same time.. I’m sure 1 out of 3 tasered would have put and end to the situation without having to kill him.
Mike says
Have you ever used a taser Rick? Do you have any real world experience other than as a Monday morning quarterback?
Real data shows that taser deployments in the field fail 40-45% of the time.
That’s like trying to protect yourself with a gun that malfunctions every few rounds.
