LANCASTER – Antelope Valley Medical Center has received a three-year agreement for its Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) redesignation by the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency, officials announced.
EDAP designation means AVMC is ready to treat infants, children, and adolescents with serious illnesses or injuries at any time.
“AVMC is committed to providing Antelope Valley families with a full range of health care services, including those for children,” said Chief Executive Officer Edward Mirzabegian. “Having the best local pediatric medical care gives parents peace of mind that they don’t have to travel 50 miles out in cases of an emergency.”
AVMC is the only hospital in the area to be approved by Los Angeles County as an EDAP.
The nursing and physician teams are trained in pediatric emergency medicine and have access to equipment specifically designed for children, hospital officials said. AVMC’s Pediatric Unit is also certified by California Children’s Services.
