Despite various COVID-19-related emergency declarations ending and many restrictions being lifted, Los Angeles County health officials reminded employers on Friday, March 24, that state workplace-safety requirements remain in place.
Among the rules still being enforced by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health are a requirement that employees who test positive remain out of the worksite for at least five days. Those employees can return between days six and 10 after testing positive if they have been fever-free for 24 hours and other symptoms have subsided, health officials said.
Employers are also required to notify other workers who may have been exposed to the virus, to make testing available to employees who may have been exposed and to ensure that all exposed employees take a test within three to five days. Employers are required to report clusters of three or more cases that occur within 14 days to the county Department of Public Health.
“Cal-OSHA is clear that worksites need to be safe by protecting workers from transmission of COVID-19,” county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. “We encourage everyone to be mindful of worksite rules and do their best to not transmit this virus to others by isolating when infected and using masks and tests appropriately when exposed to the virus. Together our efforts provide support to those who are most vulnerable and minimize the disruptions to school, work, and our daily lives.”
The county reported 10 more COVID-related deaths on Friday, March 24, raising the overall death toll to 35,970. A majority of people who die with COVID-19 are elderly or have an underlying health condition such as diabetes, heart disease or hypertension, health officials have said. Another 932 COVID infections were reported Friday, raising the cumulative total from throughout the pandemic to 3,723,386. Overall case reports from the county are considered to be undercounts of actual virus activity, due to the number of people who use at-home tests and don’t report the results, or those who don’t bother testing at all.
According to state figures, there were 413 COVID-positive patients in county hospitals as of Friday, down from 420 a day earlier. Of those patients, 43 were being treated in intensive care units, up from 39 on Thursday. Some patients were admitted for other reasons and learned they had COVID after a mandated test.

85 year old relative, fell down and broke her pelvis. She had TB, COPD, non-TB mycobacterial infection, and heart disease. Death certificate said COVID.
Tim Scott says
And?
Do you think that it is news that there were deaths attributed to COVID that could have been attributed to other causes? Everyone knows that. There were also deaths attributed to other things that could have been attributed to COVID. Data collection is imperfect.
If you are trying to pretend that your little anecdote means that COVID was really no big deal, how do you explain the fact that the number of deaths per year overall jumped about twenty percent? If all of a sudden 50,000 more people per year are dying in California and we didn’t have COVID to explain it you and all your anti-vax pals would be demanding to know what was killing all those people.
Carol Bell says
I am really sorry that people died of the Chinese virus – but do we know the the ones that died were elderly with heart problems, obesity, diabetes, – which the CDC has reported were the vast majority. Healthy young without core morbities DID NOT DIE – nor did healthy children. Elderly people that have health problems, people who are obese and out of shape should be extra careful but most of us that are healthy, take care of our selves, exercise are not at any major risk!
Tim Scott says
And?
Do you think that since only half the population is at risk of breast cancer we really shouldn’t bother about it?

The Covid vaccine has never been proven to pose a danger to anyone. It reduced the number of fatalities relieving hospitals of the need to put patients in the hallways and corpses in refrigerated trucks.
Remember when those over-reaching socialist Democrats enacted a seat belt law 20 years ago? It restricted your freedom. Your freedom to go flying through the windshield because you were too ignorant to buckle up. Big Insurance got tired of paying those expensive medical claims and got involved and to date a few million lives have been saved. A mandate was needed then and it was needed to put the brakes on the pandemic.
Meanwhile right-wing media (Fox News) told people that Fauci was a crook in cahoots with the Chinese and many devotees of Fox News died unpleasant and unnecessary deaths because they believed Fox News and avoided the vaccine. Thousands of them. Read about:
Excessive Republican deaths after the Covid vaccine came out.
Search that last sentence.
Your fear of being damaged by the vaccine is unfounded – for adults and children.

That is insane. The reason to say she died of the Chinese Virus was to exploit her death – the hospital could then collect more money for her death – SHAME SHAME SHAME!

Similar thing happened to my friend’s mom. She had heart failure and other issues. They tried like heck to pin it on COVID. Other people have shared similar stories. Many people died from COVID or COVID complications, and it isn’t a hoax. But there seemed to be an effort to list COVID as a cause of death. Most likely it has to do with money.
Tim Scott says
Yeah it was about money. There was money designated to ‘pandemic relief’ so there was definitely an incentive to list ‘complications of covid’ anywhere it applied. But cause of death documentation has always been sort of nebulous. I mean, on some level it always comes down to ‘heart stopped,’ whether it’s a fat guy with a heart attack or a gangster with a bullet through the chest.

It was definitely a hoax by those cheating Democrats who managed to corrupt millions of votes in 2020 and created the Covid hoax to get rid of Trump, and made up Climate Change (those glaciers were bound to melt someday) and want to change society to Socialism. You know the socialism that took away your freedom to not wear a seatbelt and go flying through the windshield. The socialism that enacted. speed limits so I can’t drive 95mph on Highway 14. The socialism that BUILT Highway 14. I’m showing my support for Sean Hannity and his fear of Socialism – I’m taking Soledad Canyon !!

SO, how would institutionalized medicine explain this recording practice to a layperson?
People sometimes struggle to understand the remit of medical professionals, and in their confusion attempt to model the world from faulty constructs. They concoct a fantasized blame onto the outside world for real problem they have in absorbing the activity/actions of the world as it is.
Remediation of the confusion could be successful if the person receiving the communication is willing to participate. However, there are many who have already decided that health/well being is not their remit. They would make terrible health care practitioners.
Medical professionals all swear an oath to do no harm and to preserve life. This is metered out by individual care, and coalesces into a public health condition when all individual results are summed up to reflect morbidity/mortality of the population.
If patients are cruising along, medicated and surviving, then the practice of medicine declares them treated under the standard of care (the practical ‘state of the art’) and discharges them to live.
If a special circumstance arrives that confounds this state of the art of medicine, the practitioners still treat the most acute cause as primary, since prior to the acute cause their patients were stable, medicated, and surviving.
If the acute causative malady that precipitated their patient from ‘treated successfully’ to ‘morbidity/mortality’ (“very sick”, or “dead”), they are bound to conclude that their medical remedies failed against that cause, and as such was the ’cause of death’.
Physicians, nurses, and care givers are bound to try to help. Sideline observers have no such binding.
Tim Scott says
Yeah this will go nowhere with the tiny minded anti-health care community, but well said nonetheless.

Walter Bagehot says
LOL.
I am sure “Dr Sonny” knows precisely where it came from.
because, you know, he ‘knows’ it.
Does it really matter? Wherever it was/is from, the attempt to stand in the way of the future by dwelling on the past is quite comical. People who practice that deserve the retrograde living conditions they achieve. They burden the future by dragging the anchor of the past.
Conservatism has always been superseded by Liberalism because the future demands advancement, not retardation.
Hippo Crates says
There is no developed consensus that is agreed as the factual origination of the virus, though it has attributes that indicate jumped species via zoonotic transfer.
The consensus has emerged that it attained a particularly dangerous variant in Wuhan China, but there may have been other variants that circulated well before then, but were never diagnosed beyond pneumonia response to what was thought to be common flu.
It can be hard for some people to live in such scientific uncertainty, but life’s a b!tch sometimes.
