LA County Board OKs creation of LGBTQ+ commission

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the creation of a commission focusing on the rights and welfare of LGBTQ+ people in the county.

Such a commission is needed due to the “ever increasing bias, prejudice and hate against those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer,” according to the board motion by Supervisors Hilda Solis and Janice Hahn. The panel will also “ensure that county policies are inclusive of the specific needs of this community,” including safety from violence.

“In the first five months of this year alone, nearly 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced nationwide,” Solis said in a statement after the vote on Tuesday, June 6. “To that end, in light of the ever-increasing bias, prejudice, and hate against LGBTQ+ community members, it is clear that Los Angeles County not only needs to stand up as an ally but ensure that our policies are inclusive of the specific needs of these communities.”

Under the motion approved unanimously, county staffers will also undergo training “to better serve LGBTQ+ constituents,” according to Solis’ office. The motion noted that research has determined that suicidal behavior across the nation was significantly higher among LGBTQ youth than other populations.

“It is incumbent on the board to ensure that positions and policies it takes are inclusive of all,” according to the motion. “One way of doing that is the creation of the county’s LGBTQ+ Commission, which would review recommendations to the board.”

The commission board will “be made up of individuals who know and have experienced the struggles common to the LBGTQ community,” according to the motion. The panel will have 15 members and serve in an advisory capacity to the board, county departments and other commissions.

The board also unanimously approved a companion motion by Solis and Supervisor Lindsey Horvath to expand “gender-affirming healthcare services that Los Angeles County offers so that transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex residents have safe, affirming, and appropriate access to medical care, mental health care, and care coordination services.”

        • Womens are the ones who ride those bicycles with no bar from the front fork to the seat and a
          horse side-saddle. But, the women fixed that and don’t ride side-saddle any longer.

          Republican women ride western on their men. The men are lucky if their women use a soft bit. But, a crop is always at the ready.

          Sissies are bullied and one of the worst insults for a male born fem was that they were a “woman”.

          Then the fems actually took the insult to heart, adopted their femininity and began to agree, and identifu as a “woman”.

          And so now that they agree with the bullies, they suffer again.

          Lesson: bullies will never let up, and often demand violence or severe embarassment or social stigma before they normalize and tone down or abandon their bullying.

  5. Good things happen when you’re able to increase your Asian population to a certain threshold: Crime rates go down, education levels go up.

    Interestingly, the same thing happens with the gays. That’s why I put the new performing arts center right downtown. – RRP

          • Hoffblower was the catalyst for the demise of Palmdale. Wrecks used him to boot Ledford and that was all she wrote. He had no vision, no direction and no clue. But he was able to offend just about every group there is through his mindless social media postings. Now he is bringing his talents to AV Hospital. That has to drive Wrecks crazy but I think it’s funny as sh*t.

          • Wrecks is trying to mold Palmdale into a Lancaster and he is having great success. His bought and paid for council are sending millions of dollars to Fern Street to help Lancaster so it can deal with its failing pension fund and use Palmdale money for its pet projects. He succeeded in getting his scam electric company into Palmdale where unsuspecting ratepayers are helping to fund Lancaster’s dumb projects like Eye in the Sky. More Palmdale events will become alcohol centric. Palmdale used to be different but less and less anymore.
