PALMDALE – A driver killed in a two-vehicle crash late Friday night on Sierra Highway has been identified as 58-year-old Jaime Banuelos of Palmdale, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The collision happened around 11:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, on Sierra Highway at Soledad Canyon Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report. Preliminary investigation suggests Banuelos was driving a 2022 Toyota from the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway to Soledad Canyon Road, when “for reasons still under investigation,” his vehicle collided with a 1998 Mercury that was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway, the CHP report states.
Banuelos sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mercury’s driver, 43-year-old Luis Alberto Ramirez of Palmdale, sustained major injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center. Ramirez was arrested in connection to the crash, according to the CHP.
“The involvement of alcohol and/or drugs is considered to be a factor in this crash,” the CHP report states.
Anyone with information regarding this crash in encouraged to contact Officer A. Talavera at the Antelope Valley Area CHP office at

Just curious… Sierra Highway intersects Soledad in two places (Canyon Country and Acton), which was this?

It would be just south of the Vincent Metro station, what’s interesting here is if the Toyota was exiting the northbound 14 you have a stop sign, if the Mercury was traveling south on Sierra that vehicle would have the right of way. Drugs and alcohol sure puts you on the bad side of the nature channel.
