LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a motorcyclist killed in a traffic crash Wednesday afternoon in Lancaster.
The motorcyclist was identified as Darnell Kina Hines, 45, of Lancaster, according to the agency.
The fatal collision happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, Avenue K, near 15th Street, according to Lancaster Sheriff’s Station PIO Detective Ament Ryan.
Hines was riding westbound on Avenue K when a woman driving a Mazda sedan eastbound on Avenue K made a northbound turn onto 15th Street East, colliding with Hines’ bike and ejecting him from his vehicle, Ryan said.
Paramedics pronounced Hines dead at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It has not been determined if speed or impaired driving played a factor in the collision.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to call Lancaster Sheriff’s Station traffic investigators at 661-948-8466.
UPDATE: An online fundraiser has been established for Darnell Hines, who left behind seven boys and two girls, according to the fundraiser. To donate, visit: https://gofund.me/dfa2c05a.

I am a motorcycle rider here in the A.V. I have been in 2 motorcycle accidents that were not my fault. 1st) was an 82 year old lady that sW me but sId she thought she could make it. Well she would of if she did not stop right in the middle of the 10th st west. I broke my pelvis in 2, I broke my hip and shattered my tailbone as well as busted 2 major blood vessels. 2nd) was mail delivery person who made a u- turn on ave M right before the freeway northbound on ramp. The driver in both cases were 100% at fault. Both drivers had made left turns in front of me both drivers did it even after admitting they saw me. Major part of the problem I’d drivers are unaware how to recognize us riders as well as they are ignorant to what the laws are for us riders. We can’t stop like a car, we don’t turn like cars, we harder to visibly see. Why not add somethings into the DMV hand book given people knowledge of at least the basic thIngs to allow “DRIVERS” TO RECOGNIZE US AND FILL THEM IN ON WHAT RIDERS ARE ALLOWED S TO DO. GIVE US AND THEM CHANCE FOR DRIVER AND RIDER TO SAFELY BE ON THE THE STREETS TOGETHER.
Frank Rizzo says
Motorcycle riders need to watch out for cars, don’t blame me when you run into me because you can’t slow down because your riding a wheelie down Avenue k or j!
R RRRRRREX PARRRRRIIIISSSSSS says
uh, you yourself said that “We can’t stop like a car, we don’t turn like cars, we harder to visibly see.”
You’d think that in a vulnearble state like that you’d adopt a more cautious approach to living, or keeping life and limb intact….
Your only choice in a vastly overwhelmed environ like our modern streets is to ride with every possible safe practice as YOUR, PERSONAL utmost concern as the vulnerable one.
The rest of us can try, but in a 1000:1 or 10,000:1 ratio of cars to motorcycles, the chances of driver error eventually catch up if you spend any substantial time on two wheels.
I am honestly sorry to have to deliver this very tough love message to you.

Maybe the biker shouldn’t of gone so fast were was he in such a hurry to ?
Marcy says
Don’t rush to judgment. That is our loved one. He will be sadly missed.
If the Mazda driver wasn’t at fault, why didn’t she stop and police keep asking and looking for further information. And why did she hit another vehicle??
If you don’t have any anything nice to say or sympathize, you need to sit down and be quiet.
Harley Sazuki says
“The NHTSA has investigated motorcycle accidents across the country. It evaluated more than 900 motorcycle accidents in a report called the Hurt Report. It found that the most common type of collision between cars and motorcycles is when there is a left turn at an intersection. Within these crashes, most of them happen when the car’s operator does not notice an oncoming motorcycle or notice the motorcycle but decides to make the turn anyway. In forty-two percent of the collisions, motorcyclists turning left at the intersection was the cause.”
Okay, Mr. Biker person. Do you want to be “right” that it’s the car driver’s fault or be alive? That’s up to you. You may have the law on your side up until the collison but so what if you and your bike don’t make it.
Frank Rizzo says
Bikers need to slow down, there are no 80 mph speed limits anywhere around here. Idiots on dirt bikes stay off the road! There is thousands of miles of desert, but you idiots just have to rip up and down major roads and residential areas.
Carlos Ledesma says
The motorcycle dealerships aren’t blameless in these tragedies either. With no money down, you can walk in any major motorcycle dealership with a military ID or similar civilian counterpart and 2 hours later you can drive out on the fastest motorcycles on earth. No motorcycle driving experience required.
Brian says
Carlos Ledesma, I’m not sure what your point is. You can walk into any car dealership and purchase a car that is capable of going faster than those motorcycles. Why just focus on motorcycles?

CAR: Seat belts, airbags, automatic braking systems, windows and doors, a steel or aluminum crash rated frame…
Motorcycle: none of that stuff around you… AND YOU CAN FALL OFF.
Just remember…ATGATT… armor and body airbags mandatory.

Frank Rizzo, the article did not make a determination on whether speed was a factor. Regardless, plenty of car drivers going over 80 mph as well. I had one pass me using the center divider of the 14 freeway today.
Marcy says
Name calling is ridiculous at this time. Your comments just show how little you know about the situation. Also, shows how little you care about the young man that was killed. I hope you and your family are never in the situation. That is our loved one. He will be sadly missed.

I agree 100% with you on the speed motorcycle riders drive. It’s no wonder why so many get killed. The go so fast they just come out of no where. I still believe that if this rider wasn’t going 100+ MPH he would still be here today and then his poor family wouldn’t have to miss him.
Ed says
So sorry for the lost… but as a witness I will say that speed from the motorcycle driver was way above 80mph.
Pitty Mom says
The problem is motorcycle riders are allowed to get away with speeding on the roadways. They also have to be aware of what a car is doing. What if that car had to suddenly stop to avoid something? It is not always the cars fault. I see alot of motorcycle riders who have a death wish. We don’t have enough police to crack down, so it is all of our responsibility to be responsible. Obey the posted speed on our streets.
It takes all of us
Venita says
Did you have a radar gun sr. Did the motorcyclist have the right of way? You’re only telling a sniper of this accident. So many drivers cross over into the lane where the motorcycle is and give the rider of the bike no time to stop. I’ve seen so many motorcycle accidents, and I can tell you, most of them was the driver of the vehicles fault! They don’t look out for bikers? Don’t just commit on the biker. Tell the whole truth.
Pitty Mom says
We’re you there Venita? Did you have a radar gun?
My comment was not bad at all. You tell the truth..how many bike riders do you see speeding down the roadways everyday? Cutting in between cars?
Go ahead..I am waiting…

Darnell, though we never had the chance to meet, your absence is deeply felt and you will truly be missed. It’s remarkable how someone’s impact can be felt even without personal interaction. The stories and memories shared by those who knew you remind us of the incredible person you were. Though our paths never crossed, your presence and influence were undoubtedly significant. May your spirit live on in the hearts of those who loved you, and may your memory be a source of inspiration and comfort to all who mourn your loss.

This identical accident is repeated constantly in California. And surviving is almost impossible. Some cutie pie turns left directly in front of some passing biker and the only thing after that is to call the family and tell them he’s gone.

Inattentive Mazda driver…
Been there, very sorry for your loss. says
it has happened to me and I was lucky enough that I finally saw the rider early enough to stop myself from proceeding with my left turn.
I was very sorry but I DID come to understand how these accidents are very easily possible even when a careful driver is being attentive.
Motorcycles, even with their lights on, are not visible if there is another left turning vehicle on the opposite left turn lane until they come to about 20 feet (2 car lengths) from behind the opposing left tuning car. At 40mph, the motorcycle is traveling that distance in a less than 1 second, and a less than 1 second after that they might impact my car if I proceed into the intersection.

My condolences to his family and friends… my grandson was in an accident in Palmdale Wednesday also on his motorcycle..
Person turned out of driveway in front of him..he has a broken hand and foot and lots of road rash.. thankfully he survived. This has to stop! Too many do not pay attention to incoming traffic.. please realize the right to drive doesn’t mean you don’t have to abide by the laws..each of us on the road have the right to get to our destination safely. My heart breaks for those who are victims of careless drivers.
