Lancaster announces 14 Freeway construction closures

LANCASTER – The city of Lancaster, acting on behalf of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), announced a construction closure on the Antelope Valley Freeway (SR-14) in Lancaster.

Construction will take place from 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, on northbound SR-14, from Ave K to Avenue I. Residents and businesses nearby may experience noise, vibrations, and grinding associated with construction activities. To assist motorists during this period, detour signs will be prominently posted. Delays are expected, so officials are encouraging commuters to consider alternate routes whenever possible.

“These closures are a crucial component of a comprehensive project aimed at converting the existing partial interchange into a full interchange, thereby enhancing traffic operations and creating more efficient connections to upstream and downstream interchanges. Specifically, a northbound off-ramp and southbound on-ramp are being added to improve overall traffic flow at Avenue J,” Lancaster city officials said in a news release.

  2. Closing the 14 is more perilous than Caltrans might realize. The thousands of Angelenos abandoning Los Angeles everyday might feel trapped and doomed.

  3. Lancaster planning has always been “fraught”. I’ve been wanting to use that word for a long time now.

    Whether it’s this on ramp, the blvd, Cinemark out in the middle of nowhere, the Kaiser facility on Avenue L that looks like you can’t walk to it, the DMV hidden away somewhere, the abandoned East Side,the mayor lives elsewhere, etc., etc, et cetera.

    Businesses in Lancaster look like they were dropped out of the sky and landed here, there, anywhere. The only planning was to benefit the Good Ol’ Boys. Otherwise, there is no planning.

    Find me anything in Lancaster that was a good idea or well-planned, would ya, Rex?

    Remember when Rex wanted a Walmart across from Quartz Hill High School bounded on 3 sides with homes? Who does that? That was so Rex and the Good Ol’ Boys could get the tax dollars and Quartz Hill got the problems.

  5. More on ranps aound Lancaster are needed so people can get out of town more easily.

    They should also close all the off ranps to Lancaster too.

      • I’ve been to the BLVD many times. No reason to go back. Not into panhandling, watching people defacate, fights. It’s ok in the daytime but nothing there so special to bring me out in the day. To his his own. Or her own.

    • Of course there are restaurants. “Old” ones fold after three to six months and new suckers take their place. If there weren’t an endless supply of suckers then Wrecks’ friends the property owners couldn’t wring them dry on rent. Just another way for Wrecks and his gang to bleed the city.

  6. A southbound on ramp at J? Did the city imminent domain 22nd street? I know when the freeway was built the residents there made enough noise that the state put the on ramp at J-8 instead, but I guess there’s no stopping King Wrecks and his crew.

      ANY one? Ya 600,000 single family residents. And in 2008 the tejon project
      Good thing that got canned..and now Morden day AV. When did they think AHEAD into the future and build a big enough 14 freeway? They DIDN’T.
      I personally comutted for 25 years down the hill and we all know just one wreck
      Did ruin everything for everyone.

      • First off, they built the freeway forty years ago, not twenty, and when it was new I used to run it at a hundred miles an hour and never pass a car between here and Santa Clarita. It was ‘only’ two lanes, but most of the time there were no more than ten cars on the entire length of it. It was definitely “built for the future.”

        As to making it wider now…to what end? All that does is feed people into the Newhall Pass faster, and the Newhall Pass backs the 14 up for miles as it is. And at present the Newhall Pass, between surface streets, main line, and truck route, has eleven lanes each way. It isn’t going to get better. The solution isn’t wider road, the solution is fewer drivers.

      • Good thing Wrecks didn’t build his 65 foot tall Buddha statue to attract his Communist Chinese pals. I know he said he build the BLVD to attract Asians and “The Gays” because he said they lower crime.
        He is a strange bird.

        • Statistically, gays don’t commit much crime. Neither do Asians. Both groups also bring creativity and industry to places they reside. Look at how lovely and functional the City of Pasadena is! Asians and gays are two of the most educated populations in the United States.

          Pasadena got really nice in the late 1990s when they decided to clean up Altadena and kick the gangs and crackheads out and shut the pawn shops and liquor stores on Colorado Blvd down.

    • Wrecks and local taxes have nothing to do with freeway construction. It’s Cal Trans and the state. Local money and power stops at each on ramp then Cal Trans takes over.

      • Fair. I went a little sideways on “acting on behalf of CalTrans.” Apparently, that was just a reference to the city handling the street closure aspects.

        Still gotta wonder how they got the residents on 22nd street to go along.

        • Caltrans…the invincible state terror cell, Rex is nothing to this entity nor is most other cities or communities. Forward planning is not in this terror cell’s playbook. Most projects are obsolete by completion or lack common sense to the residents that have to suffer from their final design lack of adapting too the projects flaws, it takes years and countless meetings and community input or deaths too get past the bureaucracy.

      • King Wrecks is the corrupt and bizarre thinking mayor of Lancaster. He has been in power for decades and has brought us such useless projects like the Eye in the Sky, bird sounds on the BLVD, a declaration of war against Section 8 (he lost), a war on gangs, (he lost), Ecolution, Traction Seal, a promise of a 65 foot high statue of Buddah, and Chinese birth tourism. While his regime has been in power, crime as risen, homelessness has gone out of control, our roads suck, he’s ruined several people’s lives, he lied about a fake sheriff shooting, and he lives Laguna where he has a beach mansion.
